past 2 seasons Dodgers have had a great ''unavailable'' starting rotation,-- Beuhler, Bauer, May, Gonsolin, Urias , and 1/2 of Kershaw ....bats go cold and forget how to get ''base hits'' and swing big !!!
I agree with you guys about the starting pitching, but they were counting on May, Gonsolin, and Urias. So…that’s the reason why the SP was so poor, so I don’t think it’s fair for you to suggest that they don’t like or want good starting pitching. I think they believed they have great starting pitching (and I don’t include Kershaw…he was a bonus for the team) and then injuries popped up to ruin them for 2023.
That’s absolutely right. You could argue that the Dodgers over performed in the last 6-8 weeks of this season with the starting rotation they actually had. I mean the young guys are great, but the post season is a lot for young pitchers. Kershaw’s performance in the post season speaks for itself. But the 2020-2030 Dodgers need guys like Buehler, May, and Goslin in the playoffs. Sure the offense can do better, but c’mon, when your confidence in your pitching staff gets in your head, it changes your at-bat ever so slightly. The guys were scoring plenty of runs in September when they were relaxed and loose. You could just see how Arizona batters were feasting at the plate. Their confidence was high, and it showed.
They always talk about how the pitching staff re-invents other teams projects. They don’t talk about the number of serious injuries on the staff every year, most of their pitchers cycle through the DL, and they seem to have multiple pitcher surgeries every year. The hitting coaches teach bat speed and launch angle, conservative base running. Things that over the season lead to 100 wins against mlb teams. This lets them to play the pattern and they will win 60-65% of games against mixed competition. But coming up against a team fighting for a wild card against 3 to 5 other teams for a month learns to compete and win against all comers. They do whatever can work that day.
The problem is that the Dodgers are seldom challenged in September. It seems the teams that do well in the postseason are the ones that come in battle-tested and hot.
Castillo makes a great point in minute 27 thank you! My two cents: Dodgers need to do a better job keeping players on the field, they had more than 2000 IL days this year, only Angels had that more IL days in 2023 mlb. Also, Dodgers need a human mechanism where players get 360 degree support on intangibles. There needs to be someone on staff who sees around the corner and would notice Trevor Bauer requiring some help on day 1 with the Dodgers, who would know to keep working with Julio U so his career could be preserved, and who would break through Kershaw’s stubbornness and find an answer to his unique performance anxiety. Finally, Dave Robert’s needs someone on staff who is an expert in motivation, someone who knows how to motivate the clubhouse for post season success - no one in the organization has that responsibility, that much is clear as day. If Dodgers address these areas, then the genius in the front office and the smooth management in the dugout will not go wasted one more year.
It’s getting pretty hard to justify that fraudulent 2020 Dodgers World Series. LA has had 100+ wins in 5 of the last 6 full seasons and still have no real titles. • 2023: 100 W, NLDS elimination • 2022: 111 W, NLDS elimination • 2021: 106 W, NLCS elimination • 2019: 106 W, NLDS elimination • 2018: 92 W, WS elimination • 2017: 104 W, WS elimination
Its not fraudulent. they went to 3 WS in the 7 years. They have broken so many records along the way during this run. Its a shame they haven't been able to win more WS titles. Dont forget Hou and Bos cheated during their WS. Both beat he Dodgers. Still the greatest run in Dodger History, 10 first place finishes in 11 seasons, 11 straight playoff appearances. winning 100 games 5 times.
@@alexthegod2 they went to 3 WS in the 7 years and only won 1 during the shortened season and ever since that Mickey Mouse ring, they have done nothing but choke in the playoffs. It was not fraudulent the Dodgers in 2020 went through a gauntlet of teams Brewers, Padres, down 0-3 to the Braves, and the Rays. Not easy. The only sorta thing that was different was the lack of fans/ little travel. Other than that I would say it was more difficult when you add Covid protocols.
While they're talking a bit about the Angels, might make one wonder what if Mike Soscia had become Dodgers manager instead of the Angels?, He did manage to at least get one WS win( 2002), but nothing after, but he lasted about 2 decades. Think he had mostly winning seasons, despite whatever was going on with management and the like
Dylan Hernandez minding his words so he can still show his face to the dodgers. Call it like it is, this team was built to feast onbthe bottom 70% of baseball. They can’t compete with best teams in a series. Keyshawn? Lance Lynn? This is what we are running in October? Gtfo
Dodgers have continually made bold steps except for this last offseason where they tried to reset the luxury tax. Starting pitching free agents are getting too expensive. The Dodgers pride themselves on payroll flexibility, but its not that easy when 11 year contracts etc. The Dodgers need to pivot, and try new strategies
I just can't buy baseball playoffs are random argument. The Astros have been to 7 ALCS in 7 years (6 if you count the years without cheating). Correa, Harper, Alvarez, Castellanos, and others show up every time they're in the post season, dont tell me it's a flip of a coin. Winners find a way to win, and something in the clubhouse needs to change because we aren't there.
Beautiful. As a former Dodgers fan, I find poetic justice and pure karma, after allowing the Ladies of Perpetual Indulgence in a pregame ceremony this year.

Regular season you need bodies, especially starters. Playoffs are different, you need 2 stud starters and a good 3rd, guys who get you 5-7 innings, then have solid 3 relievers and a closer. Dodgers had a great bullpen, a bunch of decent starters and not a lot of depth due to injuries (most they knew about going into season). Everyone bags on Kelly and Gallen but if you look at their numbers they are better then all the Dodgers starters. The D-Backs are still not solid with 3rd starter every time out, but solid bullpen and good/great 1-2 guy. And they deserved to get hit with Karma bat with how they handled Bauer situation.
I have been saying sense last offseason the Dodgers management was planning on using 2023 to see what their farm system could do and to save money for the 2023/2024 offseason. This was a throwaway transition season for them. How they act this offseason will tell us a lot. Do they keep signing guys to 1-3 year deals or do they actually spend money for a change.
Yes, our pitching was abhorrent, so was our batting, BUT, no one gave AZ a chance, and after getting beat down all season by LA, if I was a Diamondback, that would piss me off to no end. A pissed off, hyper-focused young team who doesn't know any better is an edge you can't quantify, but it can be the attribute that puts you over the top.
Same thing with the Padres. No one wants to get embarrassed and for a long time, both teams were before beating The dodgers. It was a perfect storm with Urias, and Gonsolin, going down. Kershaw having arm trouble the last few weeks. Also when a guy is hitting.184 Wong he is not a good pickup. When a guy is his mid thirties with an ERA over 6 it's not a good pickup. Yet everyone looked the other way. Heyward, Taylor, Hernandez, Peralta, Outman, are just average or slightly better than average and against top pitching in the Post season are shown up.
I agree...I think deep down everyone with half a brain knew we were skating on thin ice going into the postseason. But you would expect a fight at the very least. Think we were also too inside our heads...overthinking everything -- the outsized expectations, wanting to avoid a repeat of last year. The best clubs at any given moment (so now AZ and PHIL and TEX) just simplify the game, even on a subconscious level...hit the ball, catch the ball, throw the ball. We definitely were not doing that and had mental baggage sabotaging our play. @@vernpascal1531
I agree with Seager, Los Angeles will be a winning team but in the playoffs it is a disaster. I hope Arizona will Champion to make a fool of Roberts by saying that his west division is weak.
Maybe mocking the Catholic Church and Jesus mother and every Nun that ever lived had something to do with a THREE (biblical number) game sweep by a team named after a snake. I think the players themselves were done after that spiritually and they even spoke up about it, it was over after the queers showed up, now give that some thought smart guys.
Treinen, as a Dodger was the only one from the start, who spoke out against this disrespect of the Catholic religion. He's a man with integrity and has a backbone. All other players froze and stood silent. Good job Dbacks!
Losing to 84 win team eho barely got into the Post season is one thing, but getting swept in a fashion of never leading in any point of the series is just embarassing.
It’s just starting to feel like the owners don’t really care that they keep getting embarrassed in October … because bottom line they’re still getting fans to come out and sell out every season and pay all the price increases to everything that has to do with attending a game . So if the owners and front office don’t care … then maybe the superstars just don’t care as much either … sad to say but that’s just what it keeps looking like . I’m not a fire Dave Robert’s every year kind of guy . I understand Friedman is just much to blame for the stupid post season moves , at this point I’d like to see Stan Kasten come out and address this mess or even Cohen … if your going to fire Robert’s which at this point you need to just to show you care about winning you also need to address your president Friedman and straighten out his post season analytics . Hire chase Utley a manager your players would respect . And let him make the decisions in October without his hands tied .
people are making way too big of a deal of this. what matters far more than who wins a short series at the end of the season, is how each team performed over the long haul of the regular season, and on that score, the Dodgers won 100 games despite so many of its pitchers being injured. to me, that is a season to be very proud of
which is fine with me. think, for example, of Roger Maris or Orel Hershiser. Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's single-season home run record, and Orel Hershiser broke Don Drysdale's scoreless pitching streak. and yet neither are in the Hall of Fame, while both Babe Ruth and Don Drysdale are. now why is that? well because Roger Maris and Orel Hershiser, while doing incredible things, only did them on a short-term basis, while Babe Ruth's and Don Drysdale's many baseball accomplishments, were done across many years, really their entire baseball careers. and it is for that, that they are rewarded
karma, that’s why. by destroying bauers career and not putting out a massive apology, it’s justice. not to mention they absolutely needed him as a starter. no other legit starters made it obvious. throw in the woke bs they did this year w the sisters of perpetual bs, it was all going to come crashing down. ownership is 100 percent to blame. cowards
Those who say the Dodgers "choked" are totally not knowledgeable about the game of baseball. What happened in the playoff this year was totally predictable, and came down to pitching staff. At the end of the regular season, teams totally out of the playoffs are not always using their best talent in the lineup, and teams still competing are resting players more, for them to be ready for post-season. In that situation, the Dodgers pitching was not under full stress competition, but still giving up runs. As a 22-season coach now retired, I was seeing the cracks because I watch the Dodgers every day, but casual fans do not see those cracks, they just look at wins and losses. Arizona was more than equal to the Dodgers this season, but with the loss of so much pitching this year, the Dodgers were not set up to go very far. Arizona was going to win that series. If I go to a secondary reason, I would say the GM losing one starting pitcher plus Trea Turner to free agency last off-season had a big impact, but if the 2023 pitching staff was not in such a weak situation with injuries that they turned to someone with Lance Lynn's credentials as a fill-in, those two personnel losses to free agency wouldn't have mattered.
Dodgers need a couple of horses in that rotation. Kershaw was it early on but he hasn’t been that guy for years. You have to have a sick one two pitching combo to compete year after year in the post season. That’s why a team like the Dbacks or the Phillies from a year ago can run it to the WS. Ride your horses.
LAD - "Best team money can buy" and all they have to show for it is that one compromised COVID-19 WS championship (put an asterisk by that one). This one especially hurts because they got swept by a team that seemed so inferior. Some folks in California are happy, a lot of them in the North. And this may be a year that all the favorites are upset. O's already gone. And Braves backs against the wall.
When you go into a postseason it doesn’t matter how many games were played or won during the regular season the clock sets to zero so in this case dodgers wining in the postseason is still a win .
@carlosrivers1070 that’s nonsense. The fatigue after a 162 game season is completely different than only having to make it 60 games. It increases the chances of injuries throughout the year as well. The dodgers are not built to make it through 162 games and then go win a World Series, hence why the fall flat every year outside of the Covid year. Playing 162 games evens out teams that get on hot and cold streaks. The 2019 Nationals were 19-31 at one point and 27-33 through the first 60 games. That record would not have made the playoffs in 2020. The reason people put an asterisk next to the 2020 Dodgers and don’t take it seriously is because they’ve collapsed in every other postseason appearance the last decade. If they had even won the World Series in any of those years and proven they can make it through a full 162 games, I guarantee you wouldn’t hear it like this.
When it all comes down to it. the Dodgers are use to choking in the post season every year and the fully expect to choke in the post season every year, and the other teams that they face expect to win and they do win...The bottom line here is that the Dodgers have no killer instinct when it comes to the post season and that's why they choke every year.
The Layoff is a lineup killler. It gives WC teams a major advantage. The 3 best teams in baseball can't hit fastballs in the playoffs all of the sudden. What a joke.
It’s not an excuse because it’s happening to two of the best teams in the NL…unless the pitching in the AL is horrible. You can’t give a “bye week” to baseball players like you can football players.
LA bullpen for the series pitched 21 innings and gave up only 6 runs. They should've been the starting pitching. They did their job. G3 Freddie Freeman saw a total of only 10 pitches in 4 at-bats. Mookie Betts went cold a month ago. His last home run was back on Sept. 11th. He had 11 homers in the month of Aug., but only 1 homer in all of Sept.. Dave Roberts went with loyalty over strategy when it should've been the other way around. Best to pitch Bobby Miller in G1 with a clean slate and positive pressure. Kersh only had one pitch hit 90 mph. Lower velocity means less movement with added location difficulties. Clayton let pride get in the way. After the first 2 runs scored he should've been pulled, but Roberts allowed it to flood into 6 runs. He put the offense into an enormous ditch that they didn't deserve before they even got up to bat. So now in G2 Bobby Miller has to go out on negative pressure and hold it down after that disaster of a loss. Pitching matters in the playoffs as the intensity increases, but managing the pitchers is more important. You can't use loyalty with a decimated staff of starters. Strategy is top priority, and this is where Roberts fails. He puts his teams in bad situations, no fault of the players. When you don't use your gut, you lose your instincts. Dave uses stats, analytics and metrics for his decision-making to cover for what he's not good at, taking responsibility. Put it this way, if Walker Buehler never got injured, he would've been the G1 starter, not Kershaw. Bobby Miller was on fire with comparisons to Walker during the season after he got called up. That is why he should've been the starter in G1. Kersh is better with his experience and knowledge at shoring up the rear in either G2 or G3. Otherwise, Clayton can get too intense and loses his grip on the game, like he showed. And forget Urias, he hadn't been himself all season except for a couple few starts. It still would've been nice to slot him in for G2 though had he not decided to blow up his career. In my opinion, these are the factors I see for the demise. Maybe the Dodgers are just built for the regular season to cater to the largest average fan base and game attendance numbers in all of MLB. That's big money. Pays for everything and more. It's a product. It's a brand. It's entertainment. This is how executives look at it. The suits don't lose any sleep. And the post-game player and manager interviews couldn't be more mundane, humdrum and dull with no good excuses or reasonings as to why this or that. But they'll still cash their paychecks and leave the fans holding the bag. Imagine if Lasorda was the manager right now and what he would've done to fire up the team. Believe me, they would've responded. Dave Roberts, not so much. That's the difference, and why he has to go. Oh hey Dave, where was Ryan Pepiot ? He was on fire and not used at all. Talk about lack of faith in your players. Meanwhile, AZ started a rookie in G3. This is what happens to the top teams during the regular season when they have to essentially go backwards and play teams like the D-Backs with a barely over .500 record and absolutely nothing to lose, they know they didn't really deserve to be in the playoffs to begin with, instead of moving forward and playing other top teams with equally good records. The Wild Card needs to go away.
@@TheHauntedKiwi No excuses or reasonings was already mentioned in my lengthy comment if you cared to read it. It's an overall observation. So, you're whining reply is in the wrong place.
Maybe the Dodgers aren’t as good as people think they are, they just happen to play in a division with even worse teams which makes them look great. That’s the only reason why they keep losing in the post season, they finally play teams that are actually GOOD.
Starting pitching was atrocious but the bullpen gave them a chance, the offense stunk and should have NEVER been swept by the D-Backs. Dodgers have no offensive "dudes" on the team, maybe Muncy but he gets into his head when he struggles. Mookie seems really distracted by all his side projects/hobbies and hanging out with his boys.
It’s been happening since 1966 only 3 World Series championship in 58! Years we get rid of all the players that play good in playoffs jock Peterson Corey seager ect
Pitching Pitching Pitching. This year was doomed with all the pitching injuries. They have also had a lot of bad luck over the past few years.. all the TJ injuries, Buehler, May twice, Gonsolin. Bauer situation, Scherzers arm giving out in the playoffs. and sometimes a team just gets too hot like AZ. Credit to them, they played awesome. Everything went wrong for the Dodgers in this playoffs. Even so if the Dodger offense showed up they could have won this series. They scored only 2 runs in each game.
The offense should’ve stepped up with the number of injuries happening to the pitching rotation. They needed to have a change of mentality there. Having no solid starting pitching did put them at a disadvantage but it got them this far. Oh well. It is what it is. Let’s see how they will address this moving forward.
• 2023: 100 W, NLDS elimination
• 2022: 111 W, NLDS elimination
• 2021: 106 W, NLCS elimination
• 2019: 106 W, NLDS elimination
• 2018: 92 W, WS elimination
• 2017: 104 W, WS elimination
Its not fraudulent. they went to 3 WS in the 7 years. They have broken so many records along the way during this run. Its a shame they haven't been able to win more WS titles. Dont forget Hou and Bos cheated during their WS. Both beat he Dodgers.
It's simple really, they didn't want to be embarrassed by the Stros in the WS again.

While they're talking a bit about the Angels, might make one wonder what if Mike Soscia had become Dodgers manager instead of the Angels?, He did manage to at least get one WS win( 2002), but nothing after, but he lasted about 2 decades.
What do you call 40 millionaires around a TV watching the World Series? The Los Angeles Dodgers.

Maybe the dodger best pitcher should stop beating his wife
there was no decent starter in PLAYOFFS
And they were thrown a bone with an expanded postseason and took it
I agree...I think deep down everyone with half a brain knew we were skating on thin ice going into the postseason.
You clowns thought there would be a sweep... guess you were right
I agree with Seager, Los Angeles will be a winning team but in the playoffs it is a disaster.

RE Bauer, MLB Totally screwed him and so did the Dodgers.
*mark Walter**
people are making way too big of a deal of this. what matters far more than who wins a short series at the end of the season, is how each team performed over the long haul of the regular season, and on that score, the Dodgers won 100 games despite so many of its pitchers being injured. to me, that is a season to be very proud of
….and with that, the dodgers will be known as the “best regular season team money can buy”.
which is fine with me. think, for example, of Roger Maris or Orel Hershiser.
It doesn't matter if you're not in the World Series.
karma, that’s why. by destroying bauers career and not putting out a massive apology, it’s justice. not to mention they absolutely needed him as a starter. no other legit starters made it obvious. throw in the woke bs they did this year w the sisters of perpetual bs, it was all going to come crashing down. ownership is 100 percent to blame. cowards
Now i know why they say Dodger Blues….

WE NEED SS WE NEED TWO STARTING PITCHERS AND WE HAD BAUER BUT MLB AND DA DODGERS DID HIM DIRTY BAUER WOULD OF BROUGHT HIS BEST
May and Gonsolin are not coming back next year
May possibly during the season
Sell the team to Vegas. I don’t ever wanna see the Dodgers again

Next OCTOBER 2024 tho ill be Ready
LAD - "Best team money can buy" and all they have to show for it is that one compromised COVID-19 WS championship (put an asterisk by that one). This one especially hurts because they got swept by a team that seemed so inferior.
Some folks in California are happy, a lot of them in the North.
And this may be a year that all the favorites are upset. O's already gone. And Braves backs against the wall.
When you go into a postseason it doesn’t matter how many games were played or won during the regular season the clock sets to zero so in this case dodgers wining in the postseason is still a win .
Any team that makes the playoffs should not be considered inferior.

Dodgers folded like a tortilla... FYI Dbacks are not getting any worse :P

Pitching Pitching Pitching. This year was doomed with all the pitching injuries. They have also had a lot of bad luck over the past few years.. all the TJ injuries, Buehler, May twice, Gonsolin.
