Thanks my Friend. I discovered your wonderful reviews here in You Tube while researching a mid priced analog solution to be able to play my old vinyl collection on. Based on your recommendations, which I might add are about the best I've found on the web, I now have a gently preowned Technics SL1200Mk5, a Nagaoka MP 200 and a Schiit Mani. Honestly, I am astonished at how well it all sounds. While I can't say how it stacks up against my prior very high end rig, I can say that it's AMAZING for the cost. All the parts are standouts for their performing way beyond their cost and the synergy makes for a real treat.
Thank You for the time and effort you put into your reviews. You make the world a better sounding place!

Purchased a Technics sl 1200 MK5 in 2016 and it has been a joy! Ortofon 2m black an Audio-Technica 440 MLB mounted in sumiko headshells and run through project tube box s phono preamp. Just recently purchased ortofon om 40 from kab. I'm always curious what other cartridges sound like. Thinking about trying a moving coil cartridge from Audio-Technica. Been thinking about upgrading my phono preamp to a project tube box S2 because it does not use operational amps or transistors and has the option of tube rolling. But now I'm wondering about the setup you have in considering trying something similar. I have had the urge to get a new amplifier and speakers but just cannot make myself pull the trigger. I want to try tube solid state hybrid but I'm afraid it will not have enough kick. I like rock and roll and Jazz and I do like to turn it up! Tekton Double Impact speakers looking good also. But I enjoy what I have now 100%. Wish I have a Hi-Fi shop nearby to listen to different components, nearest one is about 3 hours away. Thinking about making the trip though.

@@Drivehead103 I started with an Ortofon 2m Blue. I think the sound of the Ortofon 2m series is a bit dark so based on Ian's reviews chose to go with the Nagaoka MP 200. The difference in hf clarity and soundstage over the Ortofon is more than noticeable, it's almost a game changer; so I would start there. Also based on Ian's recommendation I got a Mani preamp (my first piece of Schiit) and use it in place of the built in mm preamp in my X35. Note: Since I wrote my response above I have added a Schiit Freya+ preamp to increase gain, lower noise, and add a touch of warmth to my system. Since my use of vinyl is secondary to streaming I think my current analog rig is all I will ever need. ********An additional note to Mani users. Since the Mani is so cheap, don't sell it short and think that it doesn't deserve the benefit of high quality rca's to your amp. While it may seem weird to spend more on cables than the preamp itself, the Mani so good that really does benefit from a low noise cable.

I got my Mani a little while ago and after listening to over 20 records of different genres with it, I have to agree on everything you said about it, it's amazing, such clarity! While listening to Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water, I could hear the snare drums echoing off the studio walls!
They could sell it for $1,000 and nobody would complain, the fact that it's less than $200 is as amazing as the sound quality.
The only negative thing I could find about it is the L.E.D. light is slightly too bright for my eyes. But that was easily fixed by cutting a small piece off of a old paper record sleeve, opening the case, and taping it over the little hole the L.E.D. shines out of. Now it just has a gentle, moon-like glow when it is on.

Hi Ian, I have a Townshend Elite Rock II turntable, Excalibur arm and Merlin power supply with Sumiko Olympia MM cartridge. I had a budget of $200 for a phono preamp and was set on a Cambridge Solo before I listened to your reviews on the Schiit Mani. I decided to import the Mani to South Africa as it is not locally sold. What a difference the Mani makes! I hear instruments and sounds that I've never heard before. All instruments are clearly distinguishable and the presentation is so lively. This was the best money I've spent on my system. Thanks for that and keep up with the good work.

I would have to totally agree with you. I have had a Mani for over a year now and it still amazes me. I have added a filtered power supply and recently an Isotek Initium power cable. Each of these modifications have taken it to a different level.
I have a highly modified Rega RP6 with Rega Exact 2 cartridge. I have now replaced the cartridge and fitted a Lyra "Delos" and purchased Graham Slee Accession MM Phono Amp and Graham Slee Elevator EXP MC Step Up Amp.
But the Mani can still make the Lyra sing, it is a very capable Phonostage that punches well beyond it's weight and a credit to Schitt Audio.

Thank you Ian for your hard work and passion in reviewing products for us! I purchased the Shiit Mani (set at 48db) based on your recommendation. But the introduction of the Swagman PSU to my system made a clear significant improvement. wow! it really quieted down floor noise, and pops and clicks on new and old vinyl. I know the swagman doubles the price of the Mani, but it really makes a difference. I also tried the Lehmann SE2 as a MM preamp (returned it) and there was no difference in my system--except for the price tag! I upgraded from Audio Technica LP120, also based on your reviews.
my system: Technics GR, Nagaoka MP 500 (Orsonic Headshell), Elac Unifi B5 speakers, BlueJeans speaker cables, Upgraded Mogami interconnects, and Denon AVR to power them.

I did not realize that I needed a phono preamp for years. I researched different models. I bought the Mani partly based on this review, and I could not be happier. It has transformed my record listening experience. I feel quite clever that this little piece adds up to so much for me. When I got it I set it at Gain 1 High, Gain 2 Low for 48dB and that was it; that was the gain bump that I needed. I am using a Music Hall MMF-5 with a Goldring 1012GX cartridge. Ian, thanks again for your tireless efforts and impartial guidance. My little house system is certainly benefitting from your reviews. A new Mani is waiting for me back in the USA (Euro dealers have no stock)...I just have to wait until I can make the trip back to collect it. Something to look forward to this summer. And we all need something to look forward to these days! Cheers! Mark

I'm even bringing my friends over, and we compare analog era cds and vinyl recordings... revealing the depth of emotion this format offers compared to the cd! 👍

Thank you for this series and review. It can be very intimidating getting into vinyl, there are 1,001 differing opinions on what setup is best and how much you should spend to get started (a few hundred to a couple of thousand). Bought a 2nd hand Pro-Ject Phono Box and was pretty disappointed, glad I found this review. The Schiit Mani looks life it offers great bang for the buck and a significant upgrade from the cheap sub $100 phono amps you find off Amazon / eBay.
The reviews on the entry level turntables is great too; it clearly states the differences between consumer and entry-level audiophile grade equipment. It can be difficult to decide how much to spend when you are first starting your vinyl journey, What Hi-Fi seems to give 5-star rating to products that forum members criticize most harshly.
Would love a series on how to upgrade your turntable setup. Which components are snake oil and which components offer bang for the buck.

Hi Ian. Love your vids. I have the old Mani you reviewed here and the newer version with internal changes. it no longer sounds the same as when you reviewed it. I know there were complaints of a lack of mid range and i think they have tried to fix that. Maybe the fix has come at the cost of something else. I'm not sure i like it. Any plan for an updated review?

Hi Ian, Great to see you back in action again, your advice was missed greatly. Hope things are good for you and your family in these difficult times.
I bought, on your advice, a Schiit Mani to replace an old NAD phono on my system and the Mani is, as you said in your great review, spectacular and superb value.
My system is based on my original Technics SL 1400 direct drive deck and Celestial Ditton 25 speakers which had been lying around in my garage for years. ( Replaced the speaker crossover capacitors which were suspect, electrolyte leak on the case of one ). It all fired up well again. I picked up a S/H Denon PMA-100M amp for it and, with the old Goldring 1006 that was on the deck, it now sounds great again.. 'Vintage' is, and can be very good,
Getting things up and running again it has been a delight to go back to vinyl, but addictive. Fitted a few other "extras" and I am well pleased.
Presently I'm looking to replace the 1006 with a 1042 stylus, not that there is problems with the 1006 but it seems like a good way to go as this was my original stylus all those years ago.
Keep up your great efforts to guide us.
    Best wishes,
    Stuart.

I recieved a Schiit Mani for Christmas. I choose it on your recomendation. So Happy with this little box. I did not think my system could sound any better, but I am incredibly happy with it. Opens everything up. I'm hearing subtle backround vocals I did'nt notice before. On my copy of Art Blakey's Mosaic, I can hear some "oohs" , "yeahs" and some grunts from the players on the track "Arabia" that I never noticed before. It is like the band is playing in my living room. Thank you so much for the great information and superb review. May you live to be a thousand years old sir!

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Wayne B Dear Wayne....the Mani does not do justice to the MC cartridges...all phonostages up to us$4k do not do justice to MC cartridges...they cannot couple the refinement of MC with the weight and dynamics that we typically and easily enjoy with MMcart+MMphono. Only the Avid Pulsus MC can acconplish this...the Pulsus is the "crazy Mani" for MC phonostages up to US$4k.
Best Regards my brother on Vinyl,
      - ian :-)

    • @wayneb5742
      @wayneb5742 8 ปีที่แล้ว

HiViNyws channel Ian, thank you for the advice. To be honest I was only thinking of a budget mc option like the Denon dl 103 for which I have heard good things. But I any case I would be interested to hear what difference the Mani would make over the phono stage in my early 70s vintage Sony integrated (I have re-capped / serviced myself). Although, I think I may need to compare a newer integrated amp before I concentrate on the phono. Very best, Wayne.

Any suggestions on an amp to pair with the mani? Thinking about one of schitt’s amps, currently have a FIIO A3.

I have to say a big thanks for all your helpful videos! Being a newcomer to vinyl you've helped me a lot. I took your advise after I watched your schiit mani and nagaoka mp-110 video. What a smooth combo! Question for you. I have a rega rp-1 with the schiit mani and nagaoka setup they are paired with klipsch r-26f speakers. I just installed the nagaoka, so it does have to break in. I keep bouncing back and forth with the 42 db gain and 48 db gain. What is your suggestion? Which do you prefer? Thanks for all you do!

Thank you Ian! I received my Mani 10 days ago. I've been listening to everything I have and found it's amazing. Running it direct with no eq, Bass is crazy. Lots of punch. Clean, tight bass. Balanced mids & highs. Everything is so beautiful now, but especially the bass.
Paul McCartney, Sting, Flea(Red Hot Chili Peppers) all sound incredible. I'm stunned with vocals. I'm going to wear out my albums now! Hearing things I've never hear before (I know it's cliche but so true). Soundstage is wide. I can imagine what is happening in the studio as I now hear subtle differences that were never present before. Mani is the best thing I could have done for the system. It can and will show any weakness or flaws on a poor recording though.
Thank you for all of your reviews, at help with turntable set up. I can now hear the difference with each of my carts, the difference with set up. Next is the MP-110.
Your energy is contagious! I've dug out every old album and listen to a new one each day.

I have say thank you. After watching your review of this phono stage I decided to take the plunge. After only a couple of days it made its way from the US and is now sitting nicely in my living room in the UK and wow what a delight. After changing my stylus this has to be the next best value for money upgrade to my system.

Brother !!!!!! I have always believed strongly, and recommended thus, to friends in the U.K. to bravely proceed. You did. You decided to import this directly from the U.S. and paid the 20% VAT for it. This is the point I wanted to drive home all along: IT IS WORTH IT!!! AND MORE!!! This phonostage can even match the $1,100 Lehmann Black Cube SE2, and even..... drumroll.... easily beat the Arcam rPhono which I have purchased a week ago!! For your ears only: the rPhono is the one next up for review. I will present all the findings too. Plainly, honestly, thoroughly. Thank you for updating me and likewise all our fellow friends :-D !!! Warmest Regards my friend! See you! Happy to hear you enjoying your records now!!

Hi Ian, I just restarted vinyl after slum for 20years. Really appreciate your effort and hope that u can provide some more pointers as to the cable selection u used to wire the Mani up. I’ve order MP200 and the Mani after going thru your videos... so now I am looking around for some decent cables to link my New SL1200 MK7 to the amp. Thank you for the inspiration..... and your selection of music are pretty good too. Cheers!

    I have Sony TAF-630 ESD Amplifier+Technics 1210Mk2 TT+Nagaoka MP-110 stylus/cartridge. I am currently using my amplifier's built-in MM/MC phono stage.
Will using Schiit Mani instead of built in phono stage improve my system in terms of S/R ratio+sound quality?
Thank you for your brief feedback.

Ian, thanks for providing honest, educated and thoughtful reviews. I bought a Schiit Mani based mostly on your enthusiastic recommendation. It is a beautiful performer. I paired it with my Rega Elicit R and it brought out new detail I have never before heard in my record collection. I am now using it with my recently purchased Supernait 2 (which doesn’t have a built in phono amp) and it is pure heaven. I stumbled into your channel and am very happy that I did. I have since been searching for similar reviews but it appears that you truly are a unique individual. Thanks so much, your efforts and opinions are invaluable. I am now thinking of upgrading my RP3/Ortofon Black combo and am leaning towards Acoustic Solid but any prospective that you could provide would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Ian Macqueen

Hi Ian, first of all thanks for your informative, honest, and fun-to-watch reviews. So far I've bought a Rega Planar 3 with MP200 and the Mani mostly based on your reviews. I've seen some comments here suggest to set the gain to 48 for this setup, what would you recommend? thanks again.

Many, many friends have gotten this same system to grace their vinyl playback system. These three make up a stupendous vinyl-front end!!!!!....CONGRATULATIONS BUDDY :-D !!!!!!!!
Brother, you can try either 42dB or 48dB, depending on the amplifier-vs-speaker pairing and matching, you may use either 42dB or 48dB of Gain at your Schiit Mani's stage. Enjoy your beautiful and enthralling vinyl music from now on Buddy!!!! I am very delighted and excited for you!!!!

Ian, I just wanted to thank you for this review and your suggestion to replace my entry level turntable with a Rega (found an older P2 for a good price). The Mani paired with the MP-110 just sounds fantastic. Your in depth reviews have been an invaluable resource.
I'm really amazed at the quality of an entry level system you can put together for not a ton of cash. There really couldn't be a better time to get into vinyl.

Dear Buddy, congratulations for being successful in getting everything as I had wholeheartedly recommended, plus your good fortune of being able to get a used P2 to replace the Fluance RT turntable. MP-110 and MANI are the other two crucial elements you have fought for and acquired :-D !!!

After a long hesitation, I got the Schiit Mani. Your TH-cam video made me do it. What can I say: I'm TOTALLY excited. MUCH better than my previous NAD PP2.
And that was better than the phono input from my Denon A/V Receiver.

You can go on 42dB or 48dB on your Goldring1012GX, it really depends on your amplifier-speaker match-up, i am sure you will find the optimal one of the two!
Warmest Regards and enjoy your Thorens TD318!!!!!!!!

I purchased a Schiit Mani based on this in-depth & excellent review & boy am I really pleased I did. It totally out performs some of my other pre amps. I am now hearing things I never heard, beautiful clear piano notes, guitar riffs, super clear vocals etc. The settings out of the box were not good enough for my setup so I changed to gain 1 H and gain 2 L & it was like waking a sleeping dragon. The whole soundstage changed completely for the better. There is still a bit of throttle left but for now I will leave it at this setting.
I am using a Thorens TD-160 mkII turntable with the original TP-16 tonearm. The head shell is a Thorens fitted with a Hi-Trac cartridge MM. Schiit Mani preamp with settings previously mentioned, Yamaha main amp, Monitor Audio floor standing speakers. I can only concur with the original review & highly recommend the Schiit Mani.

Hi Ian! I heard from several different sources that there is one more champion in phono stages, ART DJ Pre II, especially when it is battery powered. Could you please let us know what do you think about it and can it be compared to Schiit Mani sound wise? Thank you my friend :-D

    • @darkjohnson5094
      @darkjohnson5094 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I own both art dj and mani.. even when using the wall wart the art sounds better; more neutral and natural sounding than the mani. when i used a 9v batt to power the art, it sounds even better. the mani is good for people with dull sounding setups or people who are treble crazy.

OK, ready to take the next step with my system, and I know this is apples and oranges, but how much large a difference is there between the Shiit Mani and your Rogue Audio Sphinx other than the $1100 in MSRP. Hi Ian, thanks for your wonderful job on this channel. A year ago, convinced by your reviews, I bought a mani and an MP110. I am very satisfied with the purchase and I must say that in this price range it is absolutely impossible to find better. Now the question: Have you ever tried to feed power to MANI with the dedicated Swagman PSU? Is it really worth the expense? Or considering that the AC / DC power conversion is inside the MANI is not a useless expense? Thank you very much.
