Made this hat with a size 5 bulky yarn. Added one extra row of straight half double crochets to make it a little taller of a hat and it turned out great! Thank you!
I have been doing hats from the tops down, but never from the bottom up like this pattern. I like this pattern the best! Easy to remember, faster, and better looking! Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you for this video. The speed was perfect. You were slow enough and clear enough to understand. I was using #4 yarn and an H hook because I had started with another pattern, got the brim done and couldn't follow the pattern. It worked out great and I ended up making the full hat. Thank you!
Used a 5mm needle with big twist hush yarn. Needed 70 half double crotches for each row but my friend loves it !!!! Thank you for such easy instructions! Will be making more!
I just finished my first hat. I love the pattern, very simple. I think im going to make more in different colors. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Thanks a lot. I made this hat for my sister-in-law with a bulky 5. I put in a couple of extra rows and one less decrees row because she has thick hair and a big bun. She really likes it. Your tutorial was so easy to follow and the had turned out very cute.
Hi Paulette, thank you so much for the kind message! I'm really glad to hear this worked out for you with your proper adjustments and that your sister in law likes it. Have a wonderful day! 🥰
Very good tutorial. I've been crocheting for many, many years. Self-taught from the days long before the internet. What an advantage new crocheters have today! I have to admit, even though I've been crocheting as long as I have, I am learning all kinds of new things from younger individuals. Love how creative everyone is. I struggled with this a bit because my old hands aren't what they used to be, but I finished, and it looks really great! Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'm glad you were able to finish and enjoyed the tutorial. I agree that it's much easier to learn now. My mom taught me the basics when I was about 8 and I never really crocheted again until a few years ago. I started watching TH-cam tutorials and learned quickly, so I wanted to make my own to help others. I'm 43 now and absolutely love crochet! ❤️
Im a beginner and this was my first hat (closed it up and made it for my son) It turned out really nice, your instructions were great! I'll make one for my daughter and myself, love this design. Thank you 😊
Oh my gosh! I have been searching and searching for a beginner friendly tutorial for this hat and have finally found yours! I love how you take the time to explain things. Thank you!
😂 I finished. Just a few flaws but this was my prototype so Im keeping it for me. I closed it up all the way as I have short hair but fully intend to wear it a lot. Now that I have gone thru the pattern I will make one for a friend with long hair. I love this pattern so much. Thank you again ❤

@@creationsmisfit welcome. I've used 3 different yarns all 3 turned out beautifully. On average they all used about 87 yards. One I used a 5 bulky yarn, the other 2, a #6 bulky yarn. Yay!! How fun and what a sweet gift. Everyone I've made these for has absolutely loved them. Black and purple are my favorite colors, so I love that you're using that combo 😍 I've definitely made these with a thinner yarn than bulky, and like you, I just use two strands together and it works out perfectly. This looks so beautiful and rustic, it would be a fantastic gift, especially for a man. I also love that it’s chunky yarn, it goes so quickly thank you for the tutorial good luck with your TH-cam channel.
Thank you so much! Yes! I love chunky yarns. I get impatient and like things to go quickly. I make these in about 45 minutes. Thank you for watching! 🥰
I miss the Caron Tea Cakes too! I did my first hat from this pattern with 91 grams of Kalaidoscope by Loops and Threads that had been sitting in my stash for years. Doing my second in Yarn Bee's Dreamspun ( now available at Hobby Lobby) is vitually identical to the Kalaidoscope-same look and fiber content.. Thank you for the beautiful and easy pattern. Took me less than an hour.
Thank you so much for the comment! I'm so happy you liked the video. I haven't tried the Dreamspun yet, I will have to get some, thanks for the recommendation. Really wish they'd bring back the Tea Cakes too!
Easy and quick to make! Love this pattern and the fact you could convert to a hat as well. I used Lion brand Hometown USA, El Paso Autumn. It looks beautiful! Thank you!
Thank you so much for saying that and for watching! My goal is to make these videos as easy to follow as possible for any beginner or expert. I appreciate you and your message! 🥰
Lol laughing at myself...I made this but it's didn't have the beautiful texture yours did but it still looks good. Keep em coming sweet lady. Your work is great!
Aww thank you so much!! This yarn is a dream to work with. The Caron Tea Cakes. I've made this hat with so many different yarns now, but I think that was my favorite for this particular pattern. I'm sure yours is beautiful! Thank you for watching! 🥰
Love the tutorial ! Making hat now. Do you have any ideas how I could make this to fit dreads? I’m making for a friend who needs a wider hole for her dreads than for a thin pony. Any ideas would be appreciated !!
Hi! I would maybe do two more rows before starting to decrease. Then don't do the last row of decrease and it will leave a larger hole and also more room for the dreads. I hope this helps! 🥰
Got to you through Pamela’s Adoring Crochet channel. Loved the hats she made using your tutorial. It’s Christmas Eve so I wish I got to you sooner but still have a chance for next year!!❤️
Hi Judy, thank you for the message! I'm so glad you found my channel. I hope you will find some tutorials that you can use throughout the year. I will be posting more in the new year as well. Have a wonderful Christmas and thanks again! 🥰
This is fantastic!! Super clear instructions, and my favorite part is the *regular* sc at the beginning and end of the brim rows--genius 🤓🤯 I just found the perfect Christmas gift idea AND a way to whittle down my stash 😆❤️
@@creationsmisfit I plan on making 15+ for our favorite dentists office for Christmas ☃️🤭 they're so much fun and they work up so fast, 15 isn't such a daunting number now!!
Great video on this messy bun hat! You did fine as far as speed and clear instructions. I’m making one with Lion Brand Landscapes yarn using a size 6 crochet hook. I just adjusted the number of rounds to get the length I needed and the number of rows in the band for the size. Thank you for sharing this pattern! New subscriber!
Hello, thank you! This was a Caron Tea Cake that is now discontinued unfortunately 😞 Such beautiful yarn in so many colors, I don't know why they stopped making it.
@@healingsprings11 thank you so much! They do have Caron Chunky Cakes which are similar and also Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarns are comparable. I hope you love making it, this is one of my favorites. So quick and easy. 🥰
hello i have a question im using a very small yarn a yarn bee soft and sleek dk low pill yarn its probably a catergory one or two and im making a beanie for my husbands boss and i was wondering do you have any suggestions on how to make this with this yarn? i know i wont have the same amount of rows and count because its so small but by chance have you ever made a beanie with a yarn like this. i definently wanted to ask you because you are a professional your beanie looks so perfect in this video and i need his bosses to be perfect she helps him so much and shes so very nice and helpful and patient and we both wanted to show her that he appreciates her so i really want her to be blown away so to speak. if you can reply back with any helpful tips or advice on this i would really appreciate it thankyou.
Hi! Thanks for watching. That's so sweet of you to make that for her. I have made this before with a size 4 ply yarn and held two strands together and it worked up just the same as the pattern in the video. So I think with a dk weight you hold three strands together and it should be very similar. For the band, you want to fo between 19" and 21" for an average adult head. So that measurement may help you as you're making it too. Then just measure on your head as you go, if needed. But I would suggest three strands of the dk yarn and see how that works 🥰
Thank you! You could measure the chains around their head if the child is near you. Otherwise I'd say maybe between 30-35 depending on the age? I've made these for kids before, but I can't remember how many I started with. I made one into a hat for my 10 year old nephew and it seems like I did around 38-40 for him. Best if you can measure and try it on them as you go.😊
Hi Carol! I'm sorry, I don't have a written pattern for this hat. I was so busy at the time that I just made a video for it. I hope it will be easy enough to follow! 🥰
@@creationsmisfit I used size 4 variegated yarn and it looked so pretty but the texture was scratchy and thin, so I made another messy bun beanie, this time with size 6 (or is it weight? Not sure) alpaca yarn, which was a guess sometimes with where to put the hook - it was beyond fuzzy and squishy - and the result was a very soft, cute inviting hat. I hope the bus driver likes it on those cold dark mornings! Thanks so much for this tutorial! I hope your channel does well. I subbed! I'm currently working on leg warmers. I haven't explored your videos yet, but if you don't have leg warmer tutorials yet, that'd be my suggestion! 🙂👍
@@aroncace thank you so much for the sub and comment! I'm so glad this worked out for you. Yes, a size 5 or size 6 yarn is best for this particular pattern. I've also made it with size 4 yarn by holding two strands together and it turned out nice as well. I don't have a leg warmer pattern yet, but I will work on that in the new year. Thank you for the suggestion! 🥰
Great video and pattern! It was easy to follow 😊 My only suggestion would be to zoom in during the transitions from row to row. It was a little hard to see which stitch was being used sometimes. I love the beanie though ♥️ Thanks!
So excited that I found your TH-cam channel. I am desperately trying to find a video that shows how to make a pancho for seven-year-old girl. With a high neck and holes for sleeves do you do that?

@@creationsmisfit I can email you a picture my daughter wears her pigtails on wash side kinda on the top of her head she is not a fan of one pigtail 🤣🤣
Ah yes, good idea. You'd make it from the top down most likely by starting with the elastic and crocheting around it and then going down. I will try to make one soon. Thank you!
Just finished making this for my sister's best friend and I'm so excited to give it to her! Your tutorial was super easy to follow and the instruction were very clear! I used Lion Brand Wool Ease thick and quick yarn and it worked perfect : )
I’m trying to make this and my yarn is #4 weight yarn and I’m using a 5.5mm hook I made mine 22” inches which is about 106 rows. My question is at row 6 and mine isn’t nearly the size of yours so how many rows should I do ?before starting to decrease
@samarneill6776 hi! I know you've done a lot already, but I would suggest using two strands of the size 4 yarn together. That would equal about the same size as the super bulky yarn that I used here. I do this often. But if you'd like to keep going with what you have, I would maybe do rows until almost the top of your forehead. You will have to do a few more decrease rounds than I did as well since you have more than double the amount of stitches. Maybe repeat rows 7 and 8 two or three times after you repeat row 6 to your size. I hope this is helpful! 💗
Lol! I did the same when I was first starting out. My first slipper was made for Bigfoot and the matching one would fit a baby 🤣 Keep practicing! It's gets easier pretty quickly! 🥰
Hi. Great tutorial. I have two questions. What is the height on the adult hat and how many rows would I do before decreasing if I was making it for a child? Thank you 🙂
Hi! Thank you for watching. I don't have any made that I can measure at the moment, but for a child, I would say probably start decreasing after round 4. I hope that is helpful! 🥰
Hi, I'm sorry to hear it turned out smaller! Every yarn is different, even if it's the same "size" like a 6 or 5. I try to measure the brim around the head before I connect it to make sure it's big enough depending on which yarn I use. I hope that will help if you decide to make another! ❤️
I would still do the same amount of rounds, but make less rows to start. Measure around the head and do as many rows as needed to match that. And then follow the rest of the pattern as is 😊
I’ve made one for myself and one for my sister and they came out great! But theyre kind of bigger and floppy and I don’t know how to fix it. I used a size 6 yarn with an 8mm hook the hometown by lion brand and I used some leftover bernat blanket for my sister’s. They just look really big and poofy. But they’re super cute and I love mine

Thank you!
I love the Hometown yarn! I bet it looks beautiful. Thank you so much for the comment and for using my tutorial. I'm really glad you liked it! 🥰
This was the best pattern I’ve ever done thank you so much ❤
Aww thank you for that amazing compliment! I'm so glad you liked it and I hope you will love some of the other patterns here as well 🥰
I just finished mine. I love it. Thanks for sharing 😍
I'm so happy you liked it. Thank you! 🥰
Thanks so much I love your tutorials. I can always follow them and as a newbie that’s important. Going to keep this one on hand it’s fun and quick 😊
my new favorite tutorial!!! thank my you so much
I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you for the comment 🥰
Thank you so much for the quick response ! I will try that ! Will keep you posted see how it goes 🤞🤞
@shannonrourke4308 sounds good! Thank you and good luck!
Great tutorial! Thank you. Learned a lot!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've made sooo many of these! 😆
@@creationsmisfit I plan on making 15+ for our favorite dentists office for Christmas ☃️🤭 they're so much fun and they work up so fast, 15 isn't such a daunting number now!!
@@unstoppablerose that's so kind of you! And yes, they are so fast!
Thank you so much!! I hope you find many patterns you enjoy here. 🥰
Do you have a written copy by chance. I love how you are so descriptive
Hey Jenn! I'm sorry, I don't have a written pattern for this one. I should probably do that soon. Thank you for the compliment and for watching! 🥰
Hi! Beautiful colors. What is the yarn brand called that you used? My next hat will be a messy bun. ✅🤩
Hello, thank you! This was a Caron Tea Cake that is now discontinued unfortunately 😞 Such beautiful yarn in so many colors, I don't know why they stopped making it.
@@creationsmisfit Thank you for the rechat. I just love those colors together and your hat is so pretty. 🤩
Love this pattern...... how many chains would you suggest for child size or would it be easier going down a couple of hook sizes?
Thank you! You could measure the chains around their head if the child is near you. Otherwise I'd say maybe between 30-35 depending on the age? I've made these for kids before, but I can't remember how many I started with. I made one into a hat for my 10 year old nephew and it seems like I did around 38-40 for him. Best if you can measure and try it on them as you go.😊
Cute!!! Works up fast…😍
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it 🥰
I love this
Thank you! ❤️
I’m anxious to try this pattern. Do you have a written pattern? It makes it easier if I have both.
Hi Carol! I'm sorry, I don't have a written pattern for this hat. I was so busy at the time that I just made a video for it. I hope it will be easy enough to follow! 🥰
So darling! I'm going to try this tomorrow!
Thank you! I'm so glad you like it!
Thank you, Autumn! I appreciate your suggestion and will be sure to do that on future tutorials. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
Love this, made two but don’t know how to show
I'm so happy you loved it! If you're on Instagram, you can tag me or send a dm @creationsmisfit 🥰
So excited that I found your TH-cam channel. I am desperately trying to find a video that shows how to make a pancho for seven-year-old girl. With a high neck and holes for sleeves do you do that?
Hi! Thank you for being here. I don't have a pattern for that right now but I know I've seen several. Let me see if I have any saved and I will send you a link here!

Love this video very clear instructions! Can you possible do one for a chunky pigtail hat??!? ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! Do you mean two holes in yhe back then for two pigtails?
@@creationsmisfit two on the sides of that makes sense
@@creationsmisfit I can email you a picture my daughter wears her pigtails on wash side kinda on the top of her head she is not a fan of one pigtail 🤣🤣
@@christinachavers8627 OK! I'm pretty sure I know what you mean, but yes you can email me jllouachai@yahoo.com 🥰
I'd love to see elastic incorporated on the top. I've seen chunky ponytail beanies sold on Amazon with the elastic in them, but I want to make my own.
Ah yes, good idea. You'd make it from the top down most likely by starting with the elastic and crocheting around it and then going down. I will try to make one soon. Thank you!
loved it, great tutorial
Thank you so much! 🥰
Awesome idea. 👍💟

Just finished making this for my sister's best friend and I'm so excited to give it to her! Your tutorial was super easy to follow and the instruction were very clear! I used Lion Brand Wool Ease thick and quick yarn and it worked perfect : )
Thank you so much for letting me know!! I'm really happy to hear that it turned out well and that the tutorial was helpful. Thank you, thank you! 🥰
@@creationsmisfit thank you for the advice
I’m a beginner and I jacked mine up 🤣🤣but I’m practicing yours is beautiful tho💯❤️
Lol! I did the same when I was first starting out. My first slipper was made for Bigfoot and the matching one would fit a baby 🤣 Keep practicing! It's gets easier pretty quickly! 🥰
Thanks for the encouragement I really appreciate it and I will I’m a new subbie love your work
@@tiana.alonda2961 thank you so much 🤗 I'm hoping to add a lot more content this year.
Love this❤
Thank you so much for watching! 🥰
@@creationsmisfit ok 😊
Thank you, such a fun beanie to make
Thank you for watching!! 🥰
Very pretty ❣️
Thank you so much 🥰
Nice. Thanks
Thank you for watching!
Love this pattern I followed it like you have shown but for some reason it turned out smaller then I wanted it to I even did 47 instead of 43 or 45
Hi, I'm sorry to hear it turned out smaller! Every yarn is different, even if it's the same "size" like a 6 or 5. I try to measure the brim around the head before I connect it to make sure it's big enough depending on which yarn I use. I hope that will help if you decide to make another! ❤️
Can you make the hat closed all the way is that possible Thanks
Hello! Yes, I actually explain how to do that in the video when it gets near the end. I've made a lot of these and also a lot with them closed! 😊
How would I make one for a 10 year old? What would the difference be in rows.
Decrease the rounds to suit the head size then follow the decrease rows! Should help!
Great tutorial Jamie! Love this pattern. Just finished making mine and going to start on another right away! Thanks for the video :)
Hey Daniel!! So happy to hear you enjoyed it. Thank you for the comment! 🤗
How would you do a messy hat for little girl pig tails, two holes on sides
Hi! I'm sorry, I don't have a pattern for that right now, but I found this one from another creator that may be helpful for you! 🥰
th-cam.com/video/WeU3V3QeHQI/w-d-xo.html
What yarn did you use for the thumbnail project?
Hi Mina, it's the same hat I made in the video. It was some yarn I had left over called Caron Tea Cakes, but unfortunately they have discontinued it ☹️ It's a size 6 super bulky.
