Hey Red, AJ and Red StepStacker Family. I love mushrooms and the shops were getting a bit expensive. Then a few months ago, a lady here in Victoria, Australia, invited her ex in laws and her ex husband and another related couple over for lunch. Beef Wellington was served. The ex was a no show. He survived. Out of the other four, three died. She has now been charged and arrested. An interesting case. They suspect Death Cap mushroom poisoning. She said she bought the mushrooms she used from a big grocery store plus some dried mushrooms from an Asian grocery store in Melbourne. She couldn't remember the address. The sales of mushrooms in the big grocery stores went down 17%. Now the price has gone back down. 😀
I spent my teenage years in Napa, California (before Napa was hoity toity). My grandma's house was the last housing development to the west of town. Once the houses ended, there was nothing but miles and miles of rolling green hills that were grazed by many MANY cows. My neighbor Joe and I would go mushroom hunting about once a month in those hills. When we were done hunting for the day, Joe would take the entire bounty and dry them out in his Ronco Food Dehydrator. He also was the one who sold them. I only tried it once as I couldn't get over the nasty taste plus knowing exactly what they grew in, did not help. I would rather drink warm Lucky Lager Beer. For a couple of years, Joe was the man to get your schrooms from. I found out after graduation that my friend, Perry, it was his grandfather who owned all that land the cows grazed on and when I told him my neighbor and I used to get schrooms from those pastures, he told me that he got his schrooms from Joe. Funny how that worked out.🤪
