I live in a very hunting orientated part of the US. At my Halloween dance, there was a girl who dressed as a deer. Hair perfectly blown out, beautiful makeup, beautiful fake antlers, beautiful dress. And her date was this regular ass boy with an orange vest on. I was so sad for her.
A girl I know on instagram did the moth/lamp costume for Halloween, but way better! She has these gorgeous patterned moth wings, and her gf had a full-on lampshade on her head, and a dress with fairy lights twined around it

My college has a Valentine's tradition of setting up your roommate to go on a blind date, but they don't tell you who it is, only what to dress up as. You go to the dining hall and pick your date out of the crowd by finding whoever's wearing the other half of your couple's costume. Best I saw were Simon and Garfunkel, the worst were the multiple couples told to dress as Bella and Edward. Who knows if they even found their correct date. A couple of my friends went on a friend's date too, dressed as each other lol.

I went as a possessed nun and my fiance went as the devil. But like a sexy devil that wears suits. I accidentally ended up trick or treating with the kids; I was only there to supervise but the first house assumed I was a kid so I took a bag and ran with it 🤣

I actually like that movie its pretty overlooked and underrated.
My niece called me shrek for ages because I have a green binder and i told her my belly was green when she was like 2, she's 5 now and still says it ♡ My favourite was the lamp and moth, the guy could have easily dressed up as the lampstand and wore a massive lamp instead of that little white lamp but the moth is 100/100 ♡

But isn't a shirt with a word quite literally someone explaining to you what they are in the most blatant way? A costume should be clear but the clarity should be in the execution not a label directly on the costume. I'd rather an obscure costume that's more of an actual costume and that may result in someone teaching me about a cool thing I've never heard of than a shirt with what the costume is written directly on it. It takes the fun out of guessing what someone could be if its literally labelled. I also think it wasn't necessary - the lamp head and the wings + antenna would definitely have implied what they were just fine. To each their own, but it was probably my least favourite because it literally explains what it is and is just a t shirt at the end of the day lol. Costumes like that are pretty heavily dependent on the joke or meme, and the joke isn't that great to begin with.

Honestly, as Halloween costumes, I wouldn't rate any of them - where are the scary ones? At the very least have a sexy witch's cat. Personally, I prefer homemade costumes (even if they're rubbish), because at least they've put some effort in. Anyone can buy an expensive all-in-one costume and just shove it on; for a homemade one, they have to come up with a concept and execute it. Also, homemade ones often have things that can be worn again afterwards (e.g. a dress or t-shirt), so are more sustainable - nobody's going to the supermarket in last year's Shrek costume or going as Shrek to every fancy dress event!
I am greatly disturbed that you gave the moth and lamp costume 9/10 but the Edward Scissorhands 6/10 🤣 But I mostly care about aesthetics and effort as well as humour and the moth and lamp costumes was literally a tshirt with a word on it 🤷 Costumes like that at least to me are really dependent on the joke or meme being referenced and the joke itself is just okay 😅 Cute, but not cute enough for me to really like it all that much.
