      Weather conditions vary and most definitely have an effect on times i.e. wind aiding times don't really count. I'm sure no one thought 9.80 would win Gold in the 2020 Olympics for men...

    That 10.67 into a headwind was 🔥🔥🔥. Wasn’t this a week after the world championships? She was a huge contender for the gold in Berlin 09. Had she held her nerve, who knows what would have happened there. Great competitor. Love seeing the relationship she has with Shelly Ann.

      That is also about the whole package. Nerves, pressure, the ability to relax under pressure. That is what, athletics is all about. But Carmellita, is truly a Jetter. She is fast.

    Love her!!! Her sprint form is next to no one . High knee drive , dorsiflexed toes e.t.c i think her only short comings was relaxation but she is still my best female sprinter.

    • @amgmusicsl
      @amgmusicsl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was going to drop a comment but you already posted my comment. She is my favorite female sprinter ever. Her form is spectacular. The relaxation was her issue. But that’s what happens being a power runner. Jeter flew and this the JET. Love ❤️ her to pieces.

    • @bensmith522
      @bensmith522 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@amgmusicsl I used to make all my sprinters watch her when I coached track and field. I think that if she has gotten to John S sooner, she would have broken the world record. I also always thought that she stayed in her drive phase for too long. She is a combination of strength and speed. You don’t need to drive that long when you bring your own power to the track. Ask Flo-Jo. When she broke the wr, she didn’t stay in her drive phase that long at all.

    • @amgmusicsl
      @amgmusicsl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bensmith522 Yeah it was late when she transitioned over to John Smith who by the way still helped to refine her. She never seemed to relax but she was always about the bizness when she lined up. She is my benchmark today - not SAFP or Elaine both of whom are phenomenal as well. Just love Jeter’s form, cadence, lifts, Power etc etc. She was a beast!

  • @bensmith522
    @bensmith522 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    That 10.64 was amazing. I only wish she had gotten to John Stewart earlier. She would probably have broken Flo-Jo’s record. But she most def let everyone know that running under 10.7 is possible, and she did it on an antiquated track.

    • @stevie586
      @stevie586 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Carmelita is one of the most under-decorated sprinters on this planet! First of all, she should’ve been running the 200M more; she was totally built to be a 200M champion, but didn’t train properly for the event. Furthermore, Jeter has one critical problem she never seemed to fix, which is, she ran too damn tense! Just about every time she lined up, she was tight, and I don’t understand why her coach did not correct this. Had Jeter learned to properly relax, she would’ve easily run 10.6’s consistently, and definitely would’ve at least been down in the 10.5’s. I think tons about Jeter and I’m more frustrated with her lack of decoration more than any other Sprinter. Simply put, she’s our unrecognized great.

      @@stevie586 The Jet is my favorite female sprinter after Flo Jo. Her technique and form was superb. Still watch her in 2022 years after being retired. She is the benchmark for me.

    • @brianjob3018
      @brianjob3018 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gro-485 Agreed! A clever, well-constructed metaphor for sure, friend. (Edit: it's krypton, CRITICAL to know because when you take away the "k," you take away it's available power as you unknowingly "(en)crypt" it! 🤪.)

    • @brianjob3018
      @brianjob3018 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevie586 (Total amateur chiming in here): A nobody once said to me she was 'militant,' which I interprete as an over-serious, Jordan-esque warlike determination to dominate. IMO, she compares to Maurice and Ben, who were "bulk-&-hulks" powering down the track.
      With his muscle mass and G.O.A.T. tat (oops!, he didn't anticipate the coming of 'The Bolt!'), I can't figure out why Maurice couldn't shave off another tenth....Maybe it was tenseness as with Ms. Jeter. So, could he have done that? Lastly, with scary-fast Shaun (Shawn?) and Justin joining him in the 4-by at the Olympics in '00, it still bothers what happened because another meter or two and he would have caught that Frenchy!

    If Jeter was from Jamaica, she would get the fulfillment that she deserves. But track and field isn't a popular sport in the USA. BUT, Carmellita Jeter is well recognized in Jamaica and rightly so. Shellyann Fraser Pryce speaks highly of her, remarking that she would always have to be on her A game when Carmellita Jeter is in her race.We love Carmellita Jeter as one of the greats in Jamaica.
