I took my black friend up north once, he hid in the tent for awhile, he said “black people don’t go in the woods”. My uncle went over to introduce himself and ironically his last name was Honke. From that moment on he went up north with me every year, without fail, even went without me sometimes, until the year he passed because he was part of our family… and always will be. RIP D, we love and miss you.

My family always taught me you don't judge a person by their color. It's their actions and attitudes. Our neighborhood was mixed with all races and colors and we all got along. After about 3 months you're gonna get hellos, smiles, and a few conversations. Only the Cracker Barrel’s in the south have hospitality...I’ve lived in North Carolina but I currently live in my homestate California; the one here in Sacramento is nothing like a Southern Cracker Barrel restaurant/store. Hospitality? They’ve never heard of her. Nonexistent. Great food? Hardly, I can get way better southern comfort food from any other southern/soul food/BBQ restaurant in Midtown or South Sac. Atmosphere? Not fun at all, no one seems happy or excited to be dining there. There’s a high staff turnover rate too. It just doesn’t hit the same whatsoever.

My ex isn't white and nobody said anything(probably cause we had Canadian license plates) but man there were more than a few snarls and glares. That was in the mid-late 90s. The staff were sweeties. Customers? In Tennessee, they didn't care for him, and in Georgia, they didn't care for me. Just stupid concepts.
