Ive lived in Anderson, SC for years and the Pickens runs not 100 yards outside my back door, but I hadnt heard of Hartwell til just now. Very cool. Great quality footage. Thanks!
Thanks a million Steve!! When I first heard about the Hartwell lash-up, I just about fainted LOL. This is one of the best days I've ever had trackside, and our timing could not have been better! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you very much! This is one of my favorite days I've ever had trackside. Rare stuff in great light with a bunch of my friends. It doesn't get much better than that
Interesting to see two different lines that used to run by my house in the Chicago area untill CN bought them out. The E.J.&E (Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern) was owned by U.S.Steel and ran around Chicago from the west to the south to the east ending the track in East Chicago Indiana. Griffith Indiana has a memorial to this railway. I do miss both these rail lines, along with Milwaukee Road, And Grand Trunk Western. All ran by my house growing up in Illinois.
Indeed. The combination of power you can see on this railroad is unreal. Very fond memories you have :) All were an important part of Chicago's development
Thank you very much! These are some fascinating operations indeed. It was a huge surprise to find that Rio Grande unit, and in the eastern U.S. of all places.
Thank you Joel! Let me know if you'd like any info on how to pull off a day like this... In short, you can usually* see all three railroads on Tuesdays or Thursdays. That is when their schedules typically line up.
LOL for real! When my friends called me to tell me what the power was, I thought they were joking. Of all places to catch a CNW high hood, I don't think anyone would expect it to be in Georgia.
Great question! The Hartwell had a couple of derailments in the previous few months before we visited. They hadn't cleaned up the spilled cars yet, probably due to all the uncertainty of COVID at that time. I visited again in August of '21 and the railcar in the field was actually still there! I guess it's not economically justifiable to move it. All the others have been cleaned up.

Thanks Pete! Not sure if Hartwell's operations have changed, but try checking them out on a Tuesday. It's a fun line and easy to follow.
excellent filming, enjoy this video a lot. Beautiful shorts lines, regards
Thank you very much 🙏 best regards to you as well.
What a fantastic, professional job !
Thank you William! 🙏
This is incredible! Rio Grande and Conrail paint still running! Wow Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks! It's incredible for sure, especially both on the same line. No problem at all!
You really grabbed some killer stuff here sir....my congratulations to you!!

The Chicago and Northwestern was a big line that just disappeared, along with Illinois Central. Miss them also.

Interesting operations and great camera work ! What a surprise to find a stray Rio Grande in the "far east" !

Alright awesome. I’ll keep that in mind!
This video looks like when I spawn in a bunch of random motive power in Trainz Simulator..
The CNW leader really caught me off guard

Nice videos
Thank you! :)
Why is there a rail car lying on its side next to the track around the 2:45 mark? Actually, there are even more later on in the video of the Hartwell.
