Cyprus is located in the eastern Mediterranean, with an area of ​​around 9,251 square kilometers, it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia and has around 1.2 million inhabitants.
The island is politically divided: in the south is the Republic of Cyprus, in the north the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The capital Nicosia is in the center of the island and is today the only divided capital in the world. The island also has the British overseas territories of Akrotiri and Dekelia, where two British military bases are located.
