The trucking industry held me for 4 months. I figured out quick that it's not worth working in an industry in need of such massive reform.
"Debt peonage" couldn't be more accurate. "Indentured servitude" would be a good term for it as well. You would not believe how many of these companies try to get brand new drivers to lease trucks just to be indebted to the company. It's a predatory system that robs the workers of their livelihoods. Many of these people have little to no education and don't see it coming until they're underwater and out of options and that’s why I on the other end had a hire a professional grant writer who help me in securing a grant and I could start up a business for myself.
1 got my CDL in 2019 from CR England and I speak from first hand experience being a truck driver is a God-awful profession. The pay for truck drivers is beyond terrible, the highest paying trucking job I had only averaged out to about 14.50 an hour. I could go on and on but I don't have anymore time to give the trucking industry. I happily got out and im not looking back, the fuckin robots can have the trucking industry. I’m not on the verge of starting up a real deal for myself.
Yep, I'm getting out. I'm a retired Firefighter/Paramedic and went into trucking to supplement my meager pension. work 60-70 hours a week, but only get paid when my wheels are turning. Waiting to be unloaded, loaded, traffic, getting fuel, breakdowns, no pay. So my pay average is approximately $16 an hour for driving a near 80,000 (most of the time) vehicle in the dark and through all weather.
I've told my firefighter buddies something they found hard to believe, that truck driving is WAY more dangerous. Hard to believe, but it's true. So I now have my full year of tractor/trailer experience and 120,000 safe miles, which would enable me to go look for more money, but the money is just not there. I'm tired of working 60-70 hours a week.
So I'm going to work as a Paramedic at a local hospital which pays hourly and OVERTIME after 40 hours and I'll be off the road before I get killed. if you asked someone if they'd like a job where you work 70 hours a week, but only get paid for about 40, oh, and that it's very dangerous and you'd be around rude and incompetent people all day (drivers on the road) no one would want the job.
People/companies at the top more interested in lining their pockets without concern for the companies that deliver the product. It is not capitalistism but " cronyism " brought to us by socialism. All the drivers are independent business contractors and could use guidance on operating a business, what we don't need is unions. Thuggery didn't work previously and as a result unions declined to just government employees.
@@Georgiacrystal I had to pull tip over trailers and of course the emplover never told me a so-called sweetheart Union contract I had to pay the $14.50 to bring the truck across the bridge on 680 in California because criminal terminal manager did not have change for $20 they do anything they can to rip off the hard-working men and women in this industry.
Never mind the shredded chains the chains that did not fit the ones who do not do the work do not care
@@andreweberhard69 I’m planning on starting up an elementary school business but haven’t saved up for it I came to realize that the budget and estimation for it was way passed what I have and I have been thinking on getting a government grant or loan. I tried applying for some but I got rejected knowing fully well I have a good credit so seeing you talk about a grant writer I feel more interested

My bro I’m not sure how much they pay drivers in Canada but we do ok down here. I been driving for a union shop for the past 20 years hauling oversize heavy equipt locally (California)This year I will be grossing $180 I been working lots of OT this year so it helped out especially the way the price of everything is now. Normally I do about $140 plus benefits. Pay is getting better just got to work for a good company. When I first got into trucking I wanted to get my own truck. I know a lot of Mexican, white , black o/o and they always talked about how tough the trucking business is so I just stayed as a company driver and worked a second job until I landed a good one. Don’t get me wrong I bounced from post office, garbage man, line haul. There are some really good jobs out there are good paying jobs with great benefits. But on the other hand you see many Punjabi trucking companies that do very well. I’m not a good business man so I just stayed company driver. Anyways stay safe karan
