Archers are good on flat fields, in where they can efficiently use their very numerous arrows and kill many enemies in a short time, not made to shoot enemy in small places, defending themselves. In this last case, they are vulnerable and waste a lot of time. Good game.

Why does the program allow the archers to try to defend open ground where they can be rushed on all sides instead of maintaining positions where the enemy must funnel toward them from one direction? Isn't this a battle strategy simulation?

4 unnecessary deaths, when the archers found natural choke points you should have let them stay there rather than forcing them to advance, they're ranged units, let them fight at range
