    When you look at the symbol of the ying and yang , most people will only see 2 sides. Black and white. No one notice the middle line between black and white, that’s were you need to balance your life.

      What is that thing that separates black from white ? That thing that allows us to notice that there is something and nothing.

      When most people look at the symbol of yin and Yang, they know it is from Taoism, and not from Zen nor any type of Buddhism.

      And what happens when you set the yin yang symbol in motion? I think that one sees how the black seems to give energy to the white, and vice versa. And then what happens when the symbol is spun very fast? I suspect it will become a blur of black and white, which equates to grey. So perhaps most of everything is shades of grey, and only sometimes reaches the 'extremes' of black or white. Perhaps the Middle Way can therefore be described as a middle grey 'colour'. 😅 media.tenor.com/CFNMnZvQ8Z8AAAAM/yin-and-yang-spinning.gif media.tenor.com/CFNMnZvQ8Z8AAAAM/yin-and-yang-spinning.gif media.tenor.com/CFNMnZvQ8Z8AAAAM/yin-and-yang-spinning.gif 10:15

      See what happens when one sets the yin yang symbol into motion - when it is spun (one can check out a yin yang gif to observe this) . I seem to see how the black kind of gives energy to the white, and vice versa. I see more clearly how the one 'colour' makes possible the other. And then what would happen if you spun it very fast? I suspect that it would become a grey blur. So most is shades of grey, and only occasionally reaches the extremes of white or black. So perhaps the 'colour' of the Middle Way could also be said to be between the black and white, or a mid grey? 🎉

    In a small Zen monastery nestled deep in the mountains, Alan Watts found himself surrounded by dedicated students seeking enlightenment. One day, a new student arrived, known for his mischievous antics and playful nature.
    Curious about the young man's approach to Zen, Alan decided to engage him in a conversation. "Tell me," Alan asked with a smile, "how do you plan to attain enlightenment?"
    The mischievous student chuckled mischievously and replied, "Ah, enlightenment! It's like chasing a cat's tail. The harder you chase it, the faster it runs away. But when you stop chasing, it comes to you."
    Amused by the young student's metaphor, Alan decided to play along. "Ah, I see. So, if I stop seeking enlightenment, it will come to me?"
    The student nodded, grinning mischievously. "That's right! Enlightenment is like a mischievous cat. It hides in plain sight, waiting for you to stop trying so hard."
    Alan pondered this for a moment and then asked, "But what if I don't chase enlightenment, and it doesn't come to me either?"
    The mischievous student burst into laughter, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Then, my dear master, you must become the cat!"
    Alan burst into laughter himself, realizing the profound truth hidden within the student's playful words. In that moment, he understood that the key to enlightenment lay not in desperate pursuit but in the joyful embrace of the present moment.
    From that day forward, Alan Watts embraced the mischievous spirit of the Zen student, reminding himself and others that enlightenment is not a goal to be achieved but a playful dance with the present moment.

    I agree with Alan 98% because I understand very clearly what he means, so I translate for you: Dah, Dah, Parara, Parara, Taka Taka, Pilchoca, Unkoka, Ha Ha Ha.
    But he has been very vague in reference to what it means "water" in his allegory. Is water the sewage you live in as a homeless in NY city? Is water the muddy craziness of your daily life? I will think about these to try to understand what "water" means.

    • @Inner-Tube
      @Inner-Tube  ปีที่แล้ว

      How about water being emotions? And it’s a representation of a whole range of these. We’re all allowed to explore and find meaning beyond the obvious. It’s great to ponder such questions sometimes.

    • @MrTetsukobu
      @MrTetsukobu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Inner-Tube Yes, water can be emotions, as the torrent of your thoughts could be water. I understand Alan FROM the core not to the core. And when I wrote, ¨I will think about these to try to understand what "water"¨ could be I did not ask for any help at all. I wrote it in this way so the reader may profit from my attitude as an example and not like an order ie. ¨Think about it¨ The imperative mode always results in ¨equal reaction¨towards the contrary, like pushing a stone, the more you push the more the stone exerts an equally strong reaction. Do we understand each other?

    @ about 6:31 the word should be spelled MAWKISH (which means sentimental in a feeble way) and not MOKISH. Usually those who are sanctimonious are not mocking themselves. So the word "mockish" makes no sense in the context used by Alan Watts here. th-cam.com/video/bDpH_RCx8d8/w-d-xo.html
