Third party liability insurance is mandatory for the “owner” of the vehicle, ( car rental company ) not for the renter, although they say that since is a business they are running and the clerks make commisions on that. The law obligates owners of vehicles to various things, the same way that obligates homeowners to pay insurance and property taxes, not renters.
Car rental companies are not authorize to sell insurance policies since they are not insurance companies, all the charge you for is a waiver by the day, at 20 dlls a day is highly profitable.

You need a microphone. There is too much backround noise.

How much did you pay for your car rental deposit? I'm going to a Cowboys next week and they're charging me $1,500

Not terrified- I drive in Manhattan (lol) but curious if it’s better to rent than Uber/taxi in Cabo.

Can I rent cars directly at the SJD airport? Can you recommend one or 2 car rental companies? Thanks 🙏

We used Alamo and it was a brief shuttle ride. We had a good experience with them.

How was your rental experience with Alamo? Have you tried other car rental companies?

This Alamo location was good but they were pretty slow getting us out the door. I haven't tried others.

    How much was insurance?

It can vary greatly but on this trip, we found a deal on Alamo's Mexico website for 50 percent off. Our entire rental for the week was $85 USD including mandatory insurance. I think the insurance came out to about $7.50 a day but it’s typically twice that.

If we have an early morning flight (7:30am) is it safe driving that early when it’s dark out ?

@@domc300 I would say driving at dark isn’t too bad. We often drove home from dinner when it was dark and it was fine. Just be extra alert and you’d probably be wise to take the toll road to the airport.

In Mexico, if you’ve done business with a bordertown trinket salesperson, you know what to expect when interacting with “most” Mexican businesses. Remain cognisant, assume nothing.
