Christopher: I just found a TH-cam video from a well known sewing machine company. They show you how to make your own plaid using various threads and embroidery stitches on top of your fabric. I think it's amazing. I bet you could get a lot of viewers if you did your take on it. I realize the process would go through a lot of thread and stabilizer, but you limit it's usage to sleeve hems, collars, pockets, plackets, hats, ties, trim, etc.
Oh dear. I'm fixin to step in something but here goes anyway. I'd like to see her reaction to the suggestion of using freezer paper for anything sewing. *Yes, I'm putting myself in the time-out corner...*
I did not realize it is waxed "paper". I use spray basting such as 505 and a sticky back stabilizer all the time. They both leave a sticky residue but I just keep my needle and machine clean after every project. I think this kitchen material is great when one is in a pinch as you mentioned.
And in a pinch like a wedding gift that needs to be finished NOW little extra possible maintenance may be acceptable to them. She did ask for alternatives not advice on her machine's capabilities

Do you know if the embroidery on press and seal still looks good after the towel goes through the washer and dryer?
Very nice
I love your attitude thank you so much❣
I have seen where the person used press n seal to hold the layers of a quilt together.
😎
People embroider with sticky stabilizer all the time!!!! Won't ruin even the most expensive machines.
