    I had perennialist belief early in my Islam. No one told me I couldn't. I learned by reading an online article by Nuh Keller (May Allah reward him) that it was haram. I dropped those beliefs like a hot rock. Al Humdulillah.

    Salam. 10:25 Is Hercules and Heraclius same person?

      Nope it was a simple mistake by our brother in translation, Hercules is a demi"god" in greek mythology (wal iyaadhu billah) whilst Heraclius was the one byzantine ruler in Muhammad SAAWS's time and he was invited to accept Islam by our Prophet SAAWS.

    Better not to play with philosophy all together. It's one of the biggest doors that shaytan can use to try to corrupt your heart and mind. My advice: don't open it. Our Deen is not a Deen of philosophy. It's a Deen of revelation from Allah.

      Me too! Even book-learning is not the best. Surat II, verse 282 towards the end, means that If we obey, love and fear Allah, then He (Himself!) Will teach us (Gnosis! Divine knowledge)! One does need discernment though. See Frithjof Schuon: A last minute lesson in discernment. It's eye-opening!

    The perennial philosophy, or the Religio perennis, is inevitably associated with Frithjof Schuon, and his main successors, Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Martin Lings, among others related to them in some way, like Caner Dagli. As Frithjof Schuon's wife, and favorite person on earth for twenty years, and having had not the slightest doubts, I learned more about him, and his related disciples, than anyone alive. I'm 81 now and made a half-hour film for a country cut off from the internet; but the film is less important than this site: frithjofschuon.wordpress.com

    René Guénon, a true Gnostic wali (saint) who at first recognized Frithjof Schuon as a potential leader in the West, tried to reconcile their differences for a long time; but all his letters denouncing Frithjof Schuon are on the site above.
    Finally, Guénon (and William C. Chittick, James Cutzinger; Gai Eaton; Rama Coomaraswamy; myself (one of his four wives); Wolfgang Smith; Renaud Fabbri; Terry Moore (who became the Khalifa of Dr. Nasr); the daughter of his second wife (Catherine Perry, who was brought up living next door), plus a host of others of the most virtuous fuqara) renounced their former hopes, due to the impossibility of a metaphysician’s separating himself from revelation, and/or due to the lying and lack of virtue; but you will understand better as you read the link above; and see the letters from René Guénon on that site.
    Other groups, left Frithjof Schuon and turned to his successors - the main ones being Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Martin Lings; but I won’t forget Caner Dagli and Jean-Claude Petit Pierre, in Switzerland. None of them (?) recognized the heresy in the one from whom they derived their authority. Good as they were as individuals, they were still heretics, and not orthodox guides, in as much as they did not recognize the grave doctrinal faults of their master, nor were they allowed to practice or teach - except with a false “ijazah..” Then yet another group, left Seyyed Hossein Nasr, because he not only expressed some wrong ideas, but the same kinds of heresy got into his very life. Then THEY too may have gone astray (?) by teaching the METHOD (the six themes) of a heretic! It’s an endless problem, complex, with the strangest contradictions, and an essential lesson in end time discerment.

I said, "It's Allahu akbar; but I guess you can't say it just like that!" If only everyone in the world could agree on those words, there would be world peace...and everything else!

      Concerning "Learned Ignorance"
      And they have not measured Allah to his just measure. (Kor. 6:91)
      This verse means: They have not proclaimed the Grandeur of God in a way which befits Him, according to what His essence demands and what is due to His majesty. In any case, this is impossible for them. It is not in the power of a contingent being to arrive at this. His essential predisposition (isti 'dad) does not permit it.
      The third person plural of the pronoun in "And they have not measured" includes all the angels, the Spirits lost in love¹⁵⁴ and, below them, the jinn and men, including the Messengers, the prophets and the saints. Further, it embraces even the first Intellect, the Spirit of holiness, who is the first of the created beings and the nearest of the Near.
      In fact, he who proclaims grandeur does so in the measure of the knowledge he has of that whose grandeur he proclaims. Now, any created being-whether he is among those whose knowledge is the fruit of reason or among those whose knowledge comes from theophanies-does not truly know Allah. That is, he does not know Him as He knows Himself. How could a finite being know Him who is exempt from all relation or limitation? Did not the wisest of the creatures with regard to Allah (i.e. the Prophet) say, "Glory to You! We do not know You as it would befitting to know You. No praise embraces You. You are such that You are Your own praise, and that which is in You is beyond my reach."¹⁵⁵
      All the species of the universe glorify Him, and each affirms His transcendence in relation to what others profess about Him. What one affirms is precisely what is denied by another. This comes from the fact that everyone is veiled, regardless of the degree to which he has attained. He who professes pure transcendence is veiled, he who professes pure immanence is veiled, and he who professes both at the same time is also veiled. He who professes that He is absolute is veiled, and so is he who attributes limitations to Him, and so is he who denies one and the other. Whoever puts Him under some statute is veiled, in a measure which is determined by his rank and his place in relation to God. For there are as many different veils as there are those who are veiled. And let one not object that what I have just been saying is also a way of putting Him under a statute, for I will respond that what I have said does not proceed from me. It is He Himself who affirms this when He says, "And their knowledge does not embrace Him" (Kor. 20:110); "And Allah puts you on guard against Himself," (Kor. 3:28)¹⁵⁶ which dispenses us from searching to attain that which is inaccessible. His Messengers have told us the same thing. When it is a question of the Essence of Allah, the entire universe is stupid. There is nothing, up to the supreme Pleroma (al-mala' al-a'la),¹⁵⁷ which is not in search of Him. Now, one only searches for something which is absent from the place where one is searching!
      This search has no end: the knowledge of God has no end. He can not be known. He can only be known by that which proceeds from Him, as effects of His names, not His ipseity. This is why the following order was given even to the Prophet, although he possessed the knowledge of the First and the Last: "Say, 'Lord, increase me in knowledge!"" (Kor. 20:114) And he does not stop saying this, in every state, every station, every degree; in this world, in the intermediate world and in the beyond.
      This being the case, what is required of us is to attach ourselves firmly to the way of faith, to accomplish the prescribed works and to follow the example of him who brought us the Law. That which he said we also say, to conform ourselves to his example and as simple interpreters of his word-for it is he who said it, and not us. And what he has kept in silence, we keep in silence-all the while ap plying the sacred legislation and the legal penalties, and awaiting death.

      154. Al-muhayyamun: these "spirits lost in love," identified in the Muslim tradition with the Cherubim, are not, properly speaking, "angels," that is, "messengers." According to Ibn 'Arabi (Fut., vol. 2, p. 250), Allah, when He existentiated them, epiphanized Himself to them through His Name al-Jamil (the Beautiful), and this theophany "intoxicated" them. In this spiritual state of "extinction" (fana"), they did not know "either themselves, nor Him whom they loved beyond all reason." The order addressed to the angels to prostrate themselves before Adam does not concern them (see Fut., Chap. 157 and 361) and, consequently, they are also dispensed from making a pact with the Pole (qutb) (Fut., vol. 3, p. 136).

Indeed, it leads the Amir to refute (M. 346, in particular p. 1115) the critique which Jili (Insän kāmil (Cairo, 1388/1949), I, p. 46) addressed to Ibn 'Arabi on this very point (M. 346, referred to above, also contains the description of a vision of Ibn 'Arabi on p. 1114).

      Universalism, no. The Perennial philosophy, yes; but that is not a religion that saves; and all revelations are not equal; one cannot mix them, as did Frithjof Schuon. Muhammad is the Seal of Prophets (khatim or khatam) and Islam is the Seal of revelations - meaning that Islam contains the truth and wisdom of all other revelations. Since I cannot write separate books for each one, I'd recommend my site, avoiding links: Frithjof Schuon: A last minute lesson in discernment. Note the words of Ibn Arabi rAa, whose vision was correct, on the separate page comparing the ideas of Ibn Arabi and Frithjof Schuon, who did not believe that great saints (the Afrad, singular Fard) neededrevelation or a sacred law...so? So he did everything that the Quran, Sunnah and Shariah..and all Prophet's and revelations forbid! With Catastrophic results. Be sure to open Aldo Vidali's dossier of the Schuon cult, which has a link in the introduction. On page 53 of that dossier you'll see what WHAT this is all about. On page 49, you'll get a glance at the mountain of lies used to keep up the image of a sinner, called a saint, prophet, and all kinds of the best titles, all upside down!
