      I picked up a used Xotic XSC-2 based on comments I saw online. Light (6.6 lbs!), incredible feeling neck, incredible sound, closest to a great vintage strat I've found in a new guitar. I had a CS 60s strat w/ Abby pickups and an AV '59 strat and sold both. Most HSS strats I've played don't blend all that well at some gain levels but this one does. And the wildest thing is you can do divebombs and it totally stays in tune.

    Hi, Just watched the video in 2024. Just bought a used Musicman HSS Cutlass which I am very happy with but was interested to hear how it compares to other boutique hss S style guitars. What I especially liked about your review was the fact you didnt play the same riff on each guitar and was very objective on each guitar and totally unbiased despite your admission you own a Suhr. Great playing and I ended up wanting all of them! But am happy with the Musicman. One of the best reviews on youtube so really well done was a pleasure to watch and your choice of adjectives for feel sound playability was bang on. Keep it up guys!

    As a Cutlass owner (and long-time Music Man fan), I am biased but Suhr and Xotic make amazing instruments too and these all sound fantastic. The styling of the Fiore gets in my way, but I said the same thing about the Cutlass when it came out and ended falling in love with it! I walked away from Fender 10 years ago and I've never been happier. All these guitars are a step above.

  • @steviesynapse
    @steviesynapse 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great demo Jack, I’ve been looking to buy the ultimate, ‘dream’ HSS S-type guitar and taking time to look at options, so this review was really helpful. Surprisingly first for me is the Music Man Cutlass, has it tonally by quite some margin with depth, clarity and warmth of the single coils and a fat, warm humbucker that doesn’t break up and get glassy and brittle with overdrive.
    Second is the PRS Fiore, it’s versatile and has some nice clean and crunch tones but the look of the neck and that ‘big bottomed’ body would make it aesthetically hard to live with, some will love it though. The Xotic and Suhr look amazing but tonally lacked range and depth which is disappointing particularly at their price point.

    Suhr HSS is the best option for a super strat bcoz of its wiring style that has true hss tone like a lonestar strat that correctly splits the single coil values of the 500k volume pot to around 250k pot when selected to single coil position of 1,2,3,4 and correctly auto splits on the 2nd postion of middle and bridge coil pickups, thats what all hss enthusiasts wants

    • @stroopwafel6141
      @stroopwafel6141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. But even more variety is possible. My Patrick Eggle made HSS strat can pair the bridgehumbucker with the middle pickup or split the bridge hb for the decent F-quack in position 2 or for a tele-esque tone in the bridge. It's loaded with Bare Knuckle pickups: Crawler and Irish Tours.

    I have some Fender and Gibson Custom Shop guitars, also Suhr, and Tom Anderson. The Suhr and Tom Anderson play the best and the necks feel way better. There is just something mental about looking at the headstock and seeing Fender or Gibson on it, maybe because of when I was young, those were the two most expensive and best looking quality guitars. I do have a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Jr that is in mint collectors condition and it plays great, especially with the super low factory frets. Remember the earlier Gibson Les Paul’s were known as fret less wonders. Plus with the P90 on a 64 year old guitar just sounds so fantastic, it just can’t be replicated on a new custom shop model. There really is something extra special about the sound of a vintage guitar, or maybe like some past girlfriends have said, you are crazy. LOL 😂. If anyone gets a chance, play a Suhr and a Tom Anderson, you won’t be disappointed with how they play. That purple Xotic looks beautiful and sounds good. One of my closest friends just got the same color and style PRS, he plays it in church with Suhr Pete Thorn amp, and a super fine decked out top of the line pedal board, to which it all sounds fantastic professional studio and stage quality. So many choices and limited finances, otherwise I think we would all own at least 100 guitars each. Buy what makes you happy. Thanks. 👏🎸👍🙏😎✌️

    For me the PRS is the winner. It’s the most articulate of the four. Second is the Suhr. Fat sounding for a power trio, but too much for a 5 piece band. Here the PRS will cut thru the mix with it’s focused articulate sound. Think I need a Fiore 👍

    New. Blk, birds eye maple fb, poplar body. Love it .
    Workin' For MCA, LS. Good day, yep.
    '10, Delta Tone close out, sorta CSB with a TS guard and blk plastic parts. rwb. $75.00.
    Loved the look first then "WTF you doing??" to a guy there.
    Hooked it up to a Fender Front Man 212 and blazed thru every Michael Schenker solo i knew. Screamed !
    Like 10 guitars here so passed.
    Get home for lunch. Wife "Go Back and buy it. ha, called the shop for an hour 'hold'.
    Get there and its something totally different !
    yes a good one. I don't gig anymore but played this enough it's got a white spot wear by the mid pup.
    It hasn't needed anything except strings.

    ,letting the instrument speak for itself, noice👌 IMHO the "demo's" that we see day to day are some of the most succinct, jam packed sonic representations of the individual instrument and the player interacting on the fly with it. there is a freshness inherent in this format that overlaps with all of the free form & improvised music high art genres. #1 musical influence for me at the moment, no joke🤘, and obviously jack is a pro at this,...genre👍

    Such a tough call on tone between the Fiore and Suhr for me. I like the HB in the Fiore noticeably better (it might actually be my favorite HB tone ever), but I like the depth of the single coils in the Suhr a bit better, at least on the clean tones. I ordered the Fiore before finding this video after almost ordering the Suhr the day before, so fingers crossed I am 100% satisfied with the decision once I have it in my hands.

    @johncarter4131 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All four of these guitars are excellent, high end, top quality guitars so it seems hard to try and choose between them, BUT, if I were to rank them in order of my preference I would say top of the pile is the Suhr because it combines a range of excellent useable sounds, with superb clean sounds, wonderful growly humbucker and excellent looks, a very close second would be the Xotic because as Jack notes it has more of a vintage-y style sound, again beautifully constructed, third would be the Music Man Cutlass, great clean sounds but not sure of the look of the guitar and lastly the PRS because it is actually a very different beast to the other guitars in this video. Jack's playing, of course, makes them all sound excellent.

    I love all these guitars for doing their own thing, If I want a Fender then Ill buy a Fender,great demo and playing as usual Jack,and I would definitely buy one of these over a Fender,for me it would be between the Suhr and Xotic, my two fav colors candy tangerine and metallic purple

    That PRS does sound good- possibly the best all-rounder. I’m just not keen on that pale neck.

    Not fair! Jack could make a broomstick strung with Barb wire sound great! I thought the Fiore sounded best but I'm a PRS lover.

    The Exotic guitar seemed the most Fender-esq of the batch. But of the guitar that stood out to me was the Suhr. I liked it the best because it has it's own voice and the build quality is top notch. Very dynamic and strong sounding. Didnt like the Music Man at all. I thought it sounded thin and brittle in the top end. Just not my thing I guess. But hey, I'm a Gibson guy anyway so what the hell do I know!!

    I've tried the Andersen and suhr
    I'll stick to my 91 beck as the tbx can mimic all these tones...
    And I've got the EMG's Luke set on my Parker nite fly...
    But I'd still like the Charcel Guthrie
