    From your video the display showing all the wood used on the Model T Fords was done by my friend Howard Comstock. He has a company in South Carolina that supplies all the wood for restoring old Model T Fords along with some other cars. He was up here a couple of years ago to do a presentation at the museum and he donated the car that is on display. We both worked on the Dodge NASCAR racing program for years and he really a knowledgeable guy when it comes to old cars. Right now he has 8 guys working 40 hours a week doing this and he is 4 months behind on orders.

      I really want a wagon. I'v been watching this poor car sit in that spot for six or seven years now. It would be nice to fix it up a bit and make it road worthy. It has almost no rust. I have tons of 59 Chevy parts too. I could make some good money on it, if the owner wants to sell it at a reasonable price.

  • @tomlewis3658

    That 59 Impala is certainly a good-looking survivor. If you end up with it, it will certainly have found a good home. It's amazing how much flexibility a new car buyer had with the option sheet in 1959. This Impala has a 6 cylinder & 3 on the tree, and maybe manual steering & brakes. And it's a post sedan, but it could have been a hardtop or an "Impala Sport Sedan", with the very distinctive flat top roof. It's nice that this car survived to the present day. There was probably a time (maybe late 80's - 2000's) when nice post sedans, especially 4 door models, were not worth so much, and might have been gobbled up, to become a parts car for a rough 2 door hardtop model. That's why when I see especially a 60's or 50's car and it's NOT a 2-door pillarless hardtop, I appreciate that it is still with us.

    My father said back in the mid 20s a fellow who lived in his home town had a Rajo overhead valve conversion and a two speed, I think Zenith, rear axle on a stripped down Model T. He said it would run more than 60 but the tires were liable to come off the rims at speed.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @rogercamp6071
      @rogercamp6071 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dad knew a fellow who had a Model T truck that had a two speed axle but he didn't think it was the more common Ruxtell one used on many Ts the guy took me for a short ride on his property in the summer of 1971,as I recall it didn't have a cab on it,he had a lot of cut down old cars around like a '41 Chevy car made into a wrecker and a '26 Chevy that he used to mow around his property.

    Hey Howard thank you for bringing us along for the tour of this museum. I will definitely have to check this out. I bet Scott and his team would enjoy visiting it as well. Good luck with snagging the '59. I know your heart is looking for a station wagon but I think this would be a great project. I'm looking forward to seeing you restore this Impala. Blue is my second favorite color for this year! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can make a deal with the owner. Take care.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven talked to the owner of the Impala yet.... he may have no interest in selling it, or wants more than its worth. After really looking it over, I'm thinking it's a Biscayne or Bel Air to be made to look like an Impala. It was locked up, so no opening the door to check by looking at the vin number. It did look very solid, and would be an easy car to give a quick fix up, to make it road worthy and look decent. It needs a whole new interior, some minor body work and paint touchups. I could fix it up to resell. It's sad seeing it just sit there. I have seen it sitting there for about six or seven years now.

    • @martinbeneteau309
      @martinbeneteau309 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@OldCarAlley it is sad that it's been sitting there all this time without someone enjoying it. She looked pretty solid and could certainly make a comeback if she had someone like you attending to her. Did you happen to notice any ques that indicates it wasn't an Impala? Of course you know I'm excited to see you get the old girl. And if she's not an Impala would you return her to her original name plate?

    • @martinbeneteau309
      @martinbeneteau309 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@OldCarAlley hey Howard just rechecked your video and the Impala doesn't have that fake roof vent that all models have. So you are probably right that it's been renamed.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martinbeneteau309 Yes, its also lacking the front top fender moldings and the license plate pocket guard, all standard on the Impala's. The dash didn't have the Impala trim either. A car like it would not be worth a total restoration, but would be easy to make into a nice fun cruiser to resell..... keeping the Impala look.

    • @martinbeneteau309
      @martinbeneteau309 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OldCarAlley someone went to the trouble of trying to make it into an Impala. I guess I understand that, they wanted a little more "bling". I added the Impala bars to the tail lights on my Belair. I don't know, they looked empty with out them.

      I think it was a Biscayne or Bel Air originally that has Impala moldings on it. It was not originally a two tone either. If the owner wants to sell it at a reasonable price, it would make a quick fixer upper project to make a little money on. It's super solid for a 62 year old car.

    the one thing about the model t,s and the model a,s is they were built to be driven and it don,t hart them to be driven even daily if there driven right and taken good care of and every part needed for can be bot new for them still so it still not hard to keep one on the road and the part sell at a low cost to them i know of people who do drive there,s daily and have no problems doing so

      I don't think I would offer over $4000 for it. It does look to need a fair amount of work to make it a nice road worthy driver.
