Signs of a bad power steering pressure switch/sensor. If you're noticing power steering issues or problems this may the cause. Top5autorepairs Subscribe
Damn! My truck has been stalling at random times. And definitely when I make some turns. I notice a power steering leak right at this sensor. I have been braking my head trying to figure the engine stalling issue! I would have never guessed that the power steering sensor could contribute to this symptom. I will switch it tomorrow and hopefully this fixes the issue😎
My explorer wants to stall sometimes when I make sharp turns. idk if this is a gasoline issue or power steering. My guess is both. my power steering leaks to just below the fulk line and makes leaving the driveway or parking lot spot difficult, along with a noisy grind. But have no issue with vibration or wandering once in motion or when its replenished (though that needs done approx once a week) Im just trying to pinpoint what part(s) need replaced. Obviously, at its age, itd be worthwhile to replace most of related parts whike we're (he) is at it. But no budget for more than bare minium. (Not driving an '98 for its looks - or awesome gas mileage😏) Thanks for this imput! Very helpful!
Good morning, thanks for your information, can you say if an electronic power steering system can also have a similar problem. It has no fluid to leak but the steering sometimes get stiff when the car is about to turn when i start to drive, after accelerating , it becomes normal
Thank you. Very good video. I have 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 truck and I got a PO551 code. I’m going to check the ohms on the sensor. I don’t know how to test it the way you requested. I’m just a rookie. Lol
First, check the high pressure hose as it tends to leak often. Next, check for power steering leaks at the rack and pinion boot. Next, check for leaks at connection right at the power steering. If it leaks then O-ring is worn.
OMG ! I almost turned this off, but then you reminded me how to do the diagnostic I need ! Thank you, Thank you ! After watching a second instance, I also note I had a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) replacement needed. I don't doubt the leak and the VSS may be related with a middle-ground sensor, minor fuse, or other adjustment: I will need to think about it. I wish it is easy to know how all the sensors in the world work, we would have almost no problems.
great vid, i sub'sd! but i am confused, i am getting NO engine light or steering light on my dash, but im getting creeking /stressing sound (all ball joints are good) when turn the wheels left to right, in park in idle, they say to fill the fluid, but there is no leaks, and my 2014 has an electric ps motor, so how is filling the tranny box w ATF going to get to the EPS when its electric, nor do i want to over fill the tranny box???? i believe they are not connected in anyway. Could it just be a bad EPS sytstem, w/ 105k miles? it steers fine no noises when i m driving, only at idle for now or i cant hear it, please help, thank you so much!
@@Top5AutoRepairs it jumps pretty high kind of annoying haha, on my truck and the vw jetta it doesn't jump that much, not sure if that is normal for honda? Thanks for the reply!
What does it mean if it’s all working but at idle it’s harder and if I rev the engine or at high rpm it’s a LOT easier too turn? Is the pump just not working 100%..?
1st- you answered every question I had. ❤ Back in my day if you had power steering pressure it was good. If you didn't it was bad. Now if the switch is bad steering response can be potentially lethal. Wonky is how I would describe it.
I have a Ford Crown Victoria 2005 and I've had to change my power steering sensor twice in five years. So what I've done is took the one that broke the second time and corked the hole with a screw and disconnected the two wire harness. 2 months later my car runs just fine no leaks and no stalling. I fixed the problem free of charge and it's running fine. I'd like an answer to tell me why that's a bad idea. Better than the massive leak I had, no more leaks. I remove the sensor and install a screw into the hole so it does not leak no more and runs just fine
@@davidgreid007 sounds like my kinda fix. shit. you see a leak you know all you gotta do is tighten the screw some, or size it up a notch. the simplest fixes are the most durable, and free. An 05 vic was when a car was still a car too.
And why is pressure building up when I took the lid off where I put my fluid into my power steering. There is a bit of a rattling grinding noise things to be coming from the power steering pulley when I put a bit of oil behind it it shuts up do I need to replace our is it possibly just dry. I've just bought it I have That sinking feeling
Can a faulty powersteering sensor cause rich condition? How to check? Ford Focus 1.6 16v ti-vct, 115 PS. 2 catalytic converters, one for cilinders 1 and 3, one for 2 and 4. I have -12 to -17 LTFT that varies on idle. LTFT changes to a stable -6 when accelerating. 2 banks, both acting similar, but not in unison. MAF sensor seems to do its job, shows reasonable values for engine displacement. I've cleaned it aniway, but no changes. Pre-cat (upstream) O2 sensors seem fine aswell, they have a continuous variation between 0.1 and 0.7-0.8V, they don't get to 0.9V. I also have a check engine light but that refers only to the post-cat (downstream) O2 sensors (P 0036, 0136, 0056, 0156). They both are malfunctioning, both have defective heaters (proven), but they both read O2. They stay pretty steady at 0.7V when engine is warm and at 0.4 when engine is cold. I hope next week I'll change them. Can they influence fuel air mixture? Didn't make an emissions test. Thanks!
My 2008 Infiniti G35 sedan keeps stalling and turning off completely whenever i slow down, or on reverse, specially while turning left or right, it's been going on for years, but now after replacing the selonoid, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, ignition coils, spark plugs, pcv valve, cleaned the injectors, i have payed so much and i honestly can't afford it anymore, i started to hate my car, every mechanic just gives me an opinion, now they suggest they physically clean the valves, and replace the fuel pump, everytime it's something new, and i am absolutely sick and tired of this shit, no one knows what's going on and i have to do my own research and look for a damn solution
The videos you usually good this one you kind of beat around the bush little too much you get to the point at the end it's like waiting for a fortune cookie with no fortune inside
Your videos are really great because they're well explained, straight to the point and informative. Thank you Sir.

Thanks for the info. I will replace the power steering pressure sensor while replacing the pump.
How common is there a leak in the pressure sensor or the O-ring?

I look at my tachometer gauge if the RPMs go up while I'm turning the steering wheel lock to lock left and right then I noticed switches work Good😊

New Subscriber. Any chance you could make a “How to” with multimeter video of this PSS issue?

Very informative video. My power steering fluid is leaking out. Does that mean the power sensor switch is bad or does the pump need to be replaced?

...mmm My 2002 Honda Odyssey will do a slight revving while it idles in gear ! so is that the power steering pressure switch ?
On my 08 accord the RPM increase when turning steering wheel on idle, do you think this is due to sensor going bad? Thanks for the informative video!
This is normal. Rpm should increase when turning the steering wheel.

I've changed the pump in my car but feels like it's drops in revs on full lock an now wondering if it's the switch
I’m currently have the same problem I changed the pump and belt tensioner

You just diagnosed my problem, thank you! Now where is it located on a 2008 Chrysler 300c 5.7
😂😂
What does it mean when I turn my steering wheel left or right and the steering wheel/or column makes a door stopper noise?
I changed my pressure line but not the sensor and still have a bit of leaking could it be the sensor
Yes it could be the sensor leaking or maybe the O=ring
It could be exactly what's leaking is leaking and nothing but.

It would be good to actually show how to do it
You sound like automobiles' instructors. You better show your work from any vehicle while talking to make it a perfect video.
My pressure sensor rusted off years ago and it has had no effect on the engine at any time.
And that makes you Proud to state that huh? Like it's normal or something anyone should let happen or let stay that way once they realize it. 😂☠️
It might be my sensor on the tsx 2004. Left and right turn rpm goes up
then the sensor is good
That's what it is suppose to do lol
