This will be my 13th straight year of going to Sturgis. One spot that has the best home cooked meals for breakfast and dinner is the American Legion in Piedmont SD. It is about halfway between Rapid and Sturgis right off the freeway. They have pretty standard breakfast and their dinners are amazing. One night will be homemade chicken and noodles, the next roast beef, etc….. Every year they have Thanksgiving dinner which is a must hit. Their bread is homemade and they have homemade desserts with every dinner. The price is great for breakfast and dinner. Such a gem and great people who work there!
Have been to the Rally 33 times now, so taking things down a notch or two here's another perspective. Yard camp 5th st and Main. $25 per night, one block from Community Center hot showers. Walking distance to the entire downtown scene. Shade, mellow campers, a lot of veterans. Coffee in the morning, two on sight clean Porta potties. Right across the the street from Mead County jail, where you won't have to go after you park your bike at the yard camp.
Yup. Now I can see how you can spend $1500+ on food at Sturgis at all those restaurants. We like to smoke brisket and pork shoulder the week before and freeze it for Sturgis. And buy our favorite asian food, freeze that and pack it along with fresh brats and hamburger and steaks. A Blackstone and a grill at camp, and we are eating like Kings for a few hundred bucks.
I was last there in 1993 for the 53rd rally. I would love to go back but it's just too much of a ride for me from Alaska. too old now I am one of those people that feel like you should ride there. I get why people don't and I have absolutely no problem with those that trailer in. It actually makes more sense to do it that way, But I'm old and set in my ways I guess. lol. I'm here from Trapper Creek on my 16th time. I'm 69. You can fly to Rapid City airport and they have rental bikes sitting there for you. Just call first to rent.
Stonehouse Saloon has decent food and generally a large crowd. Big Mama's beer garden on Nemo road had an exellent ribeye sandwich with homemade spiral fries.

Yes the Powder House outside of Keystone is a great place my wife and i always eat there when were in the Black Hills....Good pizza at the Independent Ale House in downtown Rapid City...Shoots Rooster in Hill City is also good as well as the pizza place Itallian restaurant in Hill City...We lso enjoy all the Brewerys through out the black hills..
I saw Mrs. Monkey at the Boars Nast last year but, I didn't know who she was at that time. Have you ever eaten at the Sugar Shack on 385 headed to Deadwood?
Lol. Grew up in Sturgis and Gunners lounge was the local wino watering hole back in the day. Dingy and seedy and lots of liver disease. Lmao! It used to be on Main St back then. Elk Creek Steakhouse outside of Piedmont. Steaks, burgers, prime ribs and plenty of drinks. Prices are good outside of rally time. Probly jacked up that week…but still good. Also would be remiss if I didn’t shout out to the Oasis which is owned by an old high school buddy. Say hey to Rod.
We stopped at a Pizza place in Deadwood by the moonshine place and asked for a pitcher of beer, and they did not know what that was, we got 3 pitchers for $2 a piece
Sweeto burrito is phenomenal after ALOT of fireball. The original Full Throttle Saloon was my heaven on earth. I've not been able to make it to the new one YET.
I have lived in the black hills since 1989. Sturgis as well. I am a local who gets pretty excited about the rally every year. The interesting people make it the best:) this is a really good episode about where to get food because there are some now that are not very good. Watch out for any place that doesn’t post prices. Uncle Louie’s diner and a dominos right on Main Street are year round. They used to have a vendor from Wisconsin that sold deep fried cheese curds. Haven’t seen them in a few years but holy - they were good!
The Dungeon has the best of everything lol. Sanford's in Spearfish used to be one of the best places to eat . last i heard it was gone though . An old Biker friend of mine calls the road all the way from Sturgis up past the Full Throttle ... DWI ROAD , AS YOU PROBABLE HEARD LONG AGO . FOR GOOD REASON . Be careful out there people , Hopefully see you somewhere in my travels. .
dont forget Mavericks in deadwood. casino in the middle of the main old town strip. Casino...head up stairs to the bar and order the herb butter stuffed filet. Great selection of bourbon too.
The 2 best burger places in the Black Hills are The Burger and Bun Co. in Custer and Sickie's Garage in Rapid City. Both will be super busy, but worth the wait.
rally food is expensive no matter where you go..I mean any event type food places are going to be high and its to be expected. If I was going to eat cheap in town I'd go to the pizza place at the end of town across from BK. it was 15 bucks for the pizza buffet and a drink last week. As for steak tips didn't know about a place downtown..but the truck at FTS has some really great tasting ones there.

Ruby House is a great place to eat and drink in Keystone!!! If you ever get a chance you should try Ruby House they had bison and elk and stuff like that they’re also very good and fairly inexpensive!
Wwwhhhat no shout out for TACO-CHIP?!? Tin-Lizzie change their buffet last year😢 it was a soup and salad bar for under $7-8 and shockingly the soup had 3-4 options was amazing!! But sadly it was changed last year highly doubt its coming back.
One good place to eat is neighbors on old Sturgis road in soomerset and this hole in the wall burger place in belle can’t recall the name but it was nice and not too crazy

Good info for folks heading to Sturgis but it's getting me down that it's another year and I'm not going. I'll probably be riding with old man training wheels on the bike but I will make it to Sturgis, dammit. Need to find a cane carrier for a Road Glide too.
I knew a one legged man in Alaska that outfitted his bike with cane carrier and wheel chair lift on back. Worked great fir him. Oh it was a trike sorry.

FTS had a HUGE canopy installed behind the building. And I think, it ends where you go in for the concerts. They will have the wall of death this year again. The sphere is under the new canopy now. So lots of changes this year there. Even more HUGE machinery. It looks awesome from what Ballard showed on his live broadcast one night.
Dunes bar is downstairs, Louie’s is closed and has been since 82nd sturgis unfortunately! When you go next year try Guadalajara Mexican restaurant in spearfish great Mexican there’s also steerfish steak house 👍 sorry I’m just now seeing this see ya next year
We have tried several of the places you have mentioned and they've all been good. We especially liked the Alpine Inn and will go again this year.The Powder House and the Boar's Nest will be on our list of places to eat this year. This is the second time you've mentioned "Let's Go Traveling." I've been following him for several years and would love to meet him. I hope he's at the opening ceremonies on Friday. He impresses me as a very private person, but his love for Sturgis is evident in all his videos. Have the Monkey's ever saw, met or talked to him?
Would you mind doing a video on places to stay? Especially for your first time to Sturgis? I'm looking at planning a trip in the next couple of years with my father-in-law and want to surprise him but have never been.
@@jeepfanatik1304 my experience is with tent camping. Bear Butte Creek Campground, is a good price for the week. (It was just under $400 for the week for four of us.) It's old and a little run down but, it does the job. As far as hotels/motels go, you will pay stupid money for the "roach motels." I looked at trying to get a room at the Hampton, in Deadwood. It would have cost over $2000.00 for the week. I know there is a company that you can rent fancy tents from at Buffalo Chip. They do the set up and tear down. You just bring your clothes. They supply a bed, light and fan in the tent. I thought about trying that this year but, decided to not go. We'll be going next year. I will probably try that company. If you have enough people, you can rent a house. The problem with that is, people flake out at the last minute. If you have a group, everyone needs to be paid up long before you go. And everyone needs to be on the same page. If someone backs out, they don't get their money back. That helps weed out the ones on the fence. It's an expensive trip. In my opinion, it's worth every penny. The last time my wife and I went out there, we put on almost 1200 miles, Saturday to Saturday. And I put just over 4000 miles on the trip back home. Went out west to visit family before heading back home. Hope you enjoy, if you make the trip.
Be prepared for $300 a night for a hotel room. If you plan ahead, you can find families who rent out their guest rooms. You get a much better value, and maybe a back yard to hang out in.

Jacobs Brewhouse in Deadwood, excellent food, cool building with guitars all over the place, plus paintings by famous motorcycle artist Scott Jacobs, whose gallery is just down the block. Watch out for their delectable margaritas, they kick a serious punch.
Mystic Hills / Magic Hills was a great campground but I think they went the way of a hunting outfitter now as they had the property go to Mossy Oak Realty and new managers took ownership 🤔🤔

Try the branding iron in Nemo. It's outstanding. Eat tgeir two nights again.

Devil's Tower ride.. Hulett, Wyoming. Red Rock Cafe. Great stop for breakfast IMHO.
