The number of dots in the spinning plate represents the number of edges it will skip before it stops, you doesn't have to think to segmenting it or something.

he tell ppl to think of them as segments so that ppl won't be confuse if the clock arm placement matter within the section
Segments are a nice representation so as to have more time to press the stop button when the wheel's going fast - but the point is valid
