Will there be an additional costing if this feature is enabled and locked?

There are no additional costs for enabling immutability, you will only be charged per the usual pricing model for the vault. You can check an estimate of your costs using the Azure pricing calculator. Check out our video on it here: th-cam.com/video/J7WPlbLtXNc/w-d-xo.html

Hi As Immuatability which is enabled and locked to a recovery service vault can't be brought back once enabled.. Is it confirmed that the resources expire after the set retention policy?

Hey! Once the immutability period expires the backups can be deleted as normal. Hope that helps : )

Hi MItesh, thanks for the demo . Once immutability is on can i still go to vm's back up blade and delete it ?

Hey! Once a backup is created in an immutable vault, it cannot be deleted while immutability is enabled. If immutability is not locked on the vault, you can disable immutability and you should then be able to delete the backups. You'll still be able to disable backups from the VM resource, but historical backups protected by immutability cannot be deleted from there either. Hope this helps!

@@lanetltd weird thing is -after making RSV immutable and locked ,I couldn't stop backup and delete all data OR change the retention time frame to lesser days BUT could go to protected item VM's restore points and manually delete them. am i missing something?

Sounds like immutability is working on the vault. It may be that the immutability period had expired on the selected backups, so they could be deleted from the VM blade. Once immutability is enabled, you can't make edits to the backups or the policies which result in an increase in retention. Feel free to book a call with us at lanet.co.uk/contact-us/ and we'll see if we can help you further! And check out this Microsoft Learn article to see exactly what operations are allowed and disallowed after enabling immutability: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-immutable-vault-concept?tabs=recovery-services-vault
