I'm really worried about this because I love custom dolls and if they go after those sellers too😢 I also love spending plenty at American girl so it's not like they are losing a customer because I'm going elsewhere I'm getting both.😂 I don't have a problem I swear😂
That’s exactly my point. Collectors love AG but they can’t keep up with our appetites! We want MORE!! And, I can’t tell u how many times a doll modeling something has made me want a DOLL that I never cared about before. It’s free advertising plain and simple. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Someone pointed out that off brand car parts manufacturers make parts for cars and advertise that their part fits this specific make and model of car and even sometimes shows a picture of that vehicle. Apparently they don’t get in trouble with Ford or Toyota or Chevrolet. How is this any different? Those off brand parts manufacturers are directly competing with the branded parts. Most of the doll clothes and 100% of the pattern makers aren’t competing directly either American girl. If they’re saying we can’t post photos of our AG dolls because using that photo violates their copyright or trademark or whatever, what about Instagram? Are they going to go after all of us for posting photos of our dolls that we bought from them and took a picture of? This is crazy.
My husband pointed out the same thing to me…about the after market car parts. As you said, these shop owners BOUGHT those dolls. It’s not like they photoshopped them on! AG should be flattered and gracious toward small business owners. Like you said, CRAZY!! Thanks for watching!
Great question - Are they also going after corporations (that have the legal teams to back them up), or just the small businesses (that can be easily intimidated)? I still haven't heard back after I reached out to AG expressing my disappointment back on September 23, so watching this was a good reminder to follow up. I just reached out again.
I can't wait to hear what you find out. Thanks for watching and for continuing to seek answers. No one seems to have gotten any answers yet. The least they can do is issue a statement.
This is sad and who knows the true underlying issue and what it really is all about? I heard it was in general an AI feature or is it really Mattel or a combination of both? I think it is hard to point in One direction . This is just sad😢😢😢😢
I agree. I’m hoping there is some simple explanation and everyone can just move on past this. I’d hate to see AG alienate such a huge portion of their fans. This IS so so sad. Thanks so much for watching.
hmm, strange stance to take. seeing these dolls in cute outfits, would raise ag brand awarness. it would encourage me to want to buy ther dol. but if the brand gets too territorial, it might put some people off getting one, for not knowing all these covert rules. would love to know the numbers of their demographic customers. adult collector purchases, verses, bought for or by a child
I totally agree with you. Often, when a new doll comes out, I’m underwhelmed at first. Then, I see all of the unboxings and restylings and it makes me want the dolls more. I’ve added dolls to my wish list after shopping on Etsy plenty of times. Thanks for watching!
I agree. I’ve been on Amazon a lot over the past couple of days and a lot of their 18 inch doll clothes shops are using the dolls as models. Are they targeting Etsy shops because they know they don’t have big bad attorneys? Boo, AG! Some people are saying those letters may have been automated and AI generated. I feel like that’s far fetched but hope it’s true. AG can issue an apology and we can all move on. Thanks for watching.
Instead of paying a bunch of lame lawyers to ruin everyone's fun they should use the money to pay designers to make actually cute outfits to sell on their own website.

You can't tell someone that the doll they purchased can't be modeling handmade doll clothes.
