    One quick note for the 'gotcha' crowd: This knife arrived before the 'No Limited Editions' policy took effect, and in part due to pressure from the community, I'm hearing rumbles from CKF postings of a Titanium and CF version of this in 2021. So, looks like it might not be so limited after all. Still, this won't be eligible for knife of the year, given that this configuration is limited.

      Nick Shabazz if you can, you should review more flagship Rocksteads.

    • @TalFinder
      @TalFinder 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the clarification. I was going to ask you not as a gotcha but to understand if you knew how to get one.

    • @alisuperhornet
      @alisuperhornet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fair enough, and thanks for the note; However, pointing out that a new video you uploaded goes directly against a "channel policy update"-that you yourself posted not long before- isn't necessarily 'gotcha' behavior. It's simply pointing out the clear contradiction.
      In other words, why so defensive? chill!

      Heh, I mentioned this knife in that video, as a knife that was already on the table. But yeah, I’m just tired of the cottage industry of commenters out to find ways that I’m wrong.

  • @masalpert

    Honest question: would it be going too far to say that limited edition (non-custom) knives can't obtain gem status? Gem is a such a high praise coming from you, and carries so much weight in the community, whether you want it to or not, that giving gem status to a knife you would deride for being a limited edition feels almost like it negates the complaint in the first place. Either way I guess it's just food for thought.
    Keep up the great content, Nick. Even if this knife isn't accessible to us plebs, your reviews are!

    Too rich for my blood. Maybe it's all in my head, but I feel like the channel has been trending to the higher end these past few years. Nothing wrong with that, but maybe I'm no longer the target demographic. To me, $300 is an expensive knife. I don't think I could justify $590. Nick and the content are still stellar.

    • @CopperMurdoch
      @CopperMurdoch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LVPittinsberg He did. In another thread he commented "This arrived before that policy, and CKF has now stated that another run of these is coming in 2021"
      Still not something I'm going to put on my shopping list ;)

    • @thsbulldawg82
      @thsbulldawg82 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Absolutely agree. $200 is my limit. Can afford higher but see no reason for it. I've been watching these since less than 5k subs. Lately, I find that I don't finish the videos. They're extremely well done, but it's gone past my interest. I buy knives to use. Sometimes hard use. Just can't justify a $300-$500 knife for anything other than sitting on a shelf. And, I'd rather pay that price for other things that won't fade away when the trendy appeal goes away. Honestly, if the makers can't figure out how to make something other than titanium framelock flippers, I'm just browsing anymore.

      Seeing what is going on with high end custom and production knives is a good way to keep track of what options and design flourishes are out there. Nick's review of the Ressenti Druid was one of the things that drew me into following the knife world and picking up some modern folders even though there is zero chance of me ever buying anything made or even just designed by Ressenti.

      Hi Copper: Yeah, it's been an expensive couple of weeks, but I've got a ton of great budget knives coming up. Trust me, I'm still just as happy to find gems under $100

    • @CopperMurdoch

      @@NickShabazz I'm really glad to hear that. I've been a subscriber since November 2015 (brag) and your channel has been a consistent source of of joy in my life.
      Just a thought, but have you ever considered putting a cap on the MSRP of knives you'll allow manufacturers (or others) to provide? I sincerely appreciate the charitable aspect of the current arrangement, but I wonder if these manufacturer provided knives increase the average price-point of the knives you review. I imagine a $590 knife is less likely to get reviewed if it would require a purchase with channel funds.
      Obviously, this is your channel and you put a considerable amount of your time, money, thought, and emotion into it... so I will kindly STFU if I have overstepped.

    For the price, the condition of the carbon fiber is unacceptable to me. I don't have an issue with spending that much, but the knife better be damned perfect. When budget makers can do carbon fiber right, there's no excuse for this one.

    There are mostly 3 types of collectors: 1) love knives under $3-400, collect anything, can't see paying this much 2) love knives under or around $1000, appreciate more expensive stuff, but aren't there yet 3) have been thru stages 1 & 2, seek out the customs, and relish the hunt as much as the kill. This is a solid 2nd stage knife. I know you don't like limited editions, but they are here to stay, and quite frankly not all limiteds become collector items. Some designs and executions stand the test of time, become collectible, and increase in value. MOST do not. Even most customs don't gain in value after the initial bump of excitement after release. Get over it! Enjoy the mass produced gems, the limited edition gems, and the custom I'll-never-be-able-to-afford gems. Me? I'm gonna do my best to score an example of this gem. If I don't, life will continue.

Benchmade is also a bad offender is this area on the 490. absolute garbage for actual use, these expensive knives are drawer queens or display. I will never understand how its possible that THAT many designers have no idea how to handle ergonomics. They are making a tool meant to be held and they kind of forget its supposed to be in a hand- hence drawer queen
