How hard is it to find a software engineer job as an international student in Computer Science? I'm also going to Canada and attend a master program this fall. I used to watch a video made by a CS student at the University of Ottawa and he said it was really hard to get an internship/COOP chance now. He had to send many applications before getting a response.

My daughter is doing her computer engineering from McGill University Quebec but she is not liking it and is not aware which courses she should take in second semester. Moreover she has failed in the first semister as the choice of subject was wrong. I think your daughter should reach out to the course counsellor at her university to figure out what courses she should choose. Maybe she can switch to some bachelor's of science course which she is interested in. There are tutors available on campus as well that can help her with those courses. There should be postings around her campus for the same.

Comp sci is a good degree and you will learn about software development as part of your studies. So look at the course material and then decide what's the best course for you. Good luck 👍
In Canada, software engineer is regulated by the province. Software developer and software programmer are not regulated.

But your job title depends on the company that hires you and it's their responsibility to know who can get what title
@@shivanshsingla119 Not really. Both your employer and you could be sued. To call yourself an engineer, you need an engineering degree and licensed as Professional Engineer with PEO. Your employer needs Certificate of Authorization from PEO to practice engineering in Ontario. I am informing you of the law. Enforcement is up to PEO.

I have heard that data science jobs pay higher comparatively, but the entry barrier is pretty high, like companies prefer candidates with a masters degree or 2+ years of work experience. What's your opinion regarding this?
That's true. Both data science and comp sci jobs pay well. But I think there are more software engineering related jobs that pay more and not all data science jobs pay as good as software jobs... It also depends on what you're interested in.

Software development and software engineering are the same roles so no difference. Software roles have a higher salary as compared to data analyst roles. Working conditions are the same. Rest depends on your interest

Concordia University of Edmonton is not that well known. Concordia University in Montreal is more well known except that it is located in Quebec, a French province. The two universities are not related.

It is a hard discipline because you have to keep learning to avoid obsolescence. (1) There is ageism. Once you get older, you can be replaced by younger programmers. I am not seeing too many old programmers still coding at 65. (2) Another threat is outsourcing because the work can be done cheaply overseas. (3) A lot of coding can be done by AI in the future.
My son got admission to UG Software engineering with Coop in Concordia university for Fall 2023 . When i see World Uni ranking of concordia is 601-800 also QS ranking is 551-560 which is quite low as compared to Dalhousie university where QS Rank is 308. My son got offer from both Universities . In dalhousie he got offer in Bachelor of Engineering - Common first year. Where should i sent my son?? Does Ranking matters ? and does i opt Nova scotia for promising PR ? How will be PR Channces for my Son after BE Software engg in Montreal. Where it will be easy?Or should i consider Only Competent market of Montreal in IT demant and forget everything?

Those are some valid questions. Ranking alone is not too important. Concordia is certainly more popular. PR will be more difficult in Montreal, so a lot of people move to different province after graduating.
I would personally prefer Concordia because of better exposure and job opportunities

Thank you for the video. Regarding the open work permit, I have the following questions:
1. If the work permit is about to expire, Can we directly apply to IRCC for extension without any employer related documents or do we need to take documents as well from employer and apply or Do we need to go via employer/attorney only like H1b?
2. After we get open permit from outside within how many days/months we need to be in Canada?
3. If we do remote job from Toronto to Montreal based employer, can we apply for express entry PR or it is not allowed and only needs to be applied from Montreal(arrima)?
4. Will there be any PR related issues if I work in Montreal remotely living on Toronto/Vancouver?
