Long comment please read carefully: The problem with this advertisements is simply this 1. First of all these advertisements only target one certain religion that is Hinduism. Yes we accept that there are irregularities in every religion but selective targeting of one certain community because it allows pluralism is simply wrong. The same people who think that Kanyadaan is wrong should also be treating a father giving away his daughter in a Christian marriage wrong. 2. Kanyadan means daan of Gotra and not daan of female. Daan of Gotra simply means you are giving up your lineage and entering a new lineage. You can argue whether there should be Putradaan ( daan of son's Gotra) also or not but in no way it will be disrespectful to the male or the female. It is irrelevant to use Maan in place of Daan. These people won't consider priests who have knowledge about these rituals the meaning of it and will make an advertisement without knowing anything. 3. Lastly, these advertisements actualy thrive on more ruckus among social media. The more people watch the advertisements, the more traction the brand gains. Remember negative publicity spreads faster the something positive, so these adverts won't really mind the attention they are getting.

In India, jewellery, ethnic wears are used especially on festivals or big events and since majority of India is Hindus, it is natural that Manyavar targeted Hindus. These days, Indians are acting same as some narrow minded Pakistanis who get triggered whenever something wrong with their culture or behaviour is pointed out. Yes because if kanya-adan isn't done, my gotra won't change neither will my bloodline after getting married. I think this takes place in all religious marriages where women changes her surname. If kanya-adan isn't done, this change of surname/bloodline won't take place. Edit: changing surname LEGALLY isn't a compulsory practice in modern era because many choose not to. It's your wish completely. But gotra is something that gets changed while marriage by default even if you don't like it (if some people disagree/doesn't like it, they can prefer court marriages). The point of protesting is that this ad spreads mis info. That women are property and given away but actually kanya-adan doesnt mean women are given but her gotra.

They are the majority in Kashmir and other neighborhoods or towns/villages. So shouldn't we criticize them too ? Don't speak when you don't have enough knowledge. Even i am offended by the manyavar ad and the reason is because the ad potrays kanyadan in a bad way which it isn't. Kanyadan simply means accepting the groom's Gotra and you can change your surname (if you'd like to after the ritual) , the difference is that in sanatan dharma (Hinduism) we have a ritual for that, it definitely doesn't mean to give away your daughter as if she is a burden. The relationship of the parents and the daughter remains the same. GUYS IT IS NOT A DAAN! The ritual just portrays the fact that the bride is the part of another family. Now , bring on the argument .

It's not 'kanya-daan' it's 'kanya-aadan' after sandhi viched. They have two very different meanings in Sanskrit. Kanya daan means granting yor girl to someone whereas Kanya aadan means acceptance of the girl into the family. They are downright targetting something which isn't problematic to begin with. The problem with this advertisements is simply this
1. First of all these advertisements only target one certain religion that is Hinduism. Yes we accept that there are irregularities in every religion but selective targeting of one certain community because it allows pluralism is simply wrong. The same people who think that Kanyadaan is wrong should also be treating a father giving away his daughter in a Christian marriage wrong.
2. Kanyadan means daan of Gotra and not daan of female. Daan of Gotra simply means you are giving up your lineage and entering a new lineage. You can argue whether there should be Putradaan ( daan of son's Gotra) also or not but in no way it will be disrespectful to the male or the female. It is irrelevant to use Maan in place of Daan. These people won't consider priests who have knowledge about these rituals the meaning of it and will make an advertisement without knowing anything.
3. Lastly, these advertisements actualy thrive on more ruckus among social media. The more people watch the advertisements, the more traction the brand gains. Remember negative publicity spreads faster the something positive, so these adverts won't really mind the attention they are getting.

In India, jewellery, ethnic wears are used especially on festivals or big events and since majority of India is Hindus, it is natural that Manyavar targeted Hindus. These days, Indians are acting same as some narrow minded Pakistanis who get triggered whenever something wrong with their culture or behaviour is pointed out. India seems to be going back instead of forward.

Yes because if kanya-adan isn't done, my gotra won't change neither will my bloodline after getting married. I think this takes place in all religious marriages where women changes her surname. If kanya-adan isn't done, this change of surname/bloodline won't take place.
Edit: changing surname LEGALLY isn't a compulsory practice in modern era because many choose not to. It's your wish completely. But gotra is something that gets changed while marriage by default even if you don't like it (if some people disagree/doesn't like it, they can prefer court marriages). The point of protesting is that this ad spreads mis info. That women are property and given away but actually kanya-adan doesnt mean women are given but her gotra.

They are the majority in Kashmir and other neighborhoods or towns/villages. So shouldn't we criticize them too ? Kanyadan simply means accepting the groom's Gotra and you can change your surname (if you'd like to after the ritual) , the difference is that in sanatan dharma (Hinduism) we have a ritual for that, it definitely doesn't mean to give away your daughter as if she is a burden. The relationship of the parents and the daughter remains the same. GUYS IT IS NOT A DAAN! The ritual just portrays the fact that the bride is the part of another family.

These type of ads create a stereotype that Hindus aren't tolerant towards other relegion and Muslims are very tolerant and accepting, and then expect ppl to be tolerant coz it's just an "ad"; no hate but the whole world knows which relegion is tolerant and Its a fact and not a baseless hate allegation. It's not 'kanya-daan' it's 'kanya-aadan' after sandhi viched. They have two very different meanings in Sanskrit.
Kanya daan means granting yor girl to someone whereas Kanya aadan means acceptance of the girl into the family.

Imo it's not really the individual ads that are as offensive as the ecosystem. You say India's a composite culture and a diverse nation etc but when it comes to highlighting social issues you target one particular group- how fair would it be. Don't get me wrong these ads are wonderful and don't deserve to be cancelled even the system around these ads doesn't be cancelled. BUT pressure does need to be put to stop selective targeting in a civilized and humane manner and through social media - just not by arbitrarily calling for ridiculous boycotts

These commercials were wrong in no way atleast to me. Kanyadaan is a rubbish ritual and today it is not followed in wedding by lots of people. I mean what's your say? Are girls objects that they could be thrown from one household to another. The other ads were pure symbols of religious bonds and they were created in a positive manner. Overthinking public twisted and turned the matter to such an extent that they are bringing shame to a childhood pure friendship too...What an absolute shame!😔
