Trying to clear up what was said in this episode - he was the next heir to the Four Seasons Manor sect. Their master died. He was suddenly the leader at 16 and couldn't protect the sect on his own. So he went to Prince Jin, to offer his services and formed The Window of Heaven, which is basically an Assassin/spy group instead of a noble sect. The 81 remaining members of Four Seasons chose to go with him. (So basically, Four Seasons just vanished). The only way out of the Window of Heaven is immediate death or the nails. If you actually want to leave and be free a bit before you leave, you take the nails so you can't tell the secrets of the Window. Zhou ZiShu wants to see his home again before he dies, so... nails. He invented the nail treatment btw. 😁
What a surprise! The first episode is a bit confusing but the drama is really worth watching. The two main characters have amazing chemistry and the other characters are also interesting. Every episode gets better and better! Love from France!

Rather they died coz he brought them under his wing in the window of heaven. That's why he said he couldn't protect any of them. As for the nails well the irony is ZZS is the one who invented that punishment for leaving window of heaven. That's why he know how they work. That's why he was,able to know that if he put one nail every 3 months then he would retain some of his martial arts. He will keep losing senses,one by one. The start is depressing but oh good is this drama so good. Wen ke xing is about to corrupt you😂 Note: Ghosts in this drama are not real ghosts. They're humans but act like ghosts & do evil things. They're kinda like outcasts who have done terrible things & turn to being ghost in the ghost valley.

Ok so Zhou zishu is the leader of an assassin organization called "windows to heaven" once you join you can't leave unless you die, the guy he put the nails in was his subordinate, who could no longer be a lap dog to the prince now Zhou zishu is the only member of the four seasons sect. The nails were created as a silencer so the members leaving can't spill secrets.. Zhou zishu is sick because for a yr and a half prior to the events of this episode he had been slowly putting nails in so he keeps half of all his skills and senses, he will eventually die but as said it's a three year of torment first... He's a baddie but he's really a cinnamon roll cause he's really cute and sweet.. he's just been hindered by duties.. he's cutting them open because he wants it to seem like he's not healing and so no longer useful, and yes prince Jin thinks of Zhou zishu as his zhi zhiji (soulmate) but that's not the case.
Compared to being killed as an enemy of the state yes it's more dignified to commit suicide... Sadly it's simply his duty as the leader so he can't make time for standing relationships
He's a baddie but a good baddie if that makes sense... Zhou zishu is someone important... He created windows of heaven he created the nails and he was prince's most trusted official..
