While the exploits of Smith in the Americas are dubious and full of desperation-driven violence, he actually had a very interesting story from Eastern Europe. He was sent to fight the Turks in Hungary, where he was captured and enslaved. Because his mistress did not want to enslave him, she transferred him to her brother. He later killed his master and returned to England. I wish that could get into a movie.
ok ive watched this like 10 times already and i genuinely cant stop quoting it. so thank u for singlehandedly creating the best video on the internet ahdhskdjab
Before he was a weaker Batman, Bale was John Smith's boy and pal. Fact: John Smith fictionalized his life after he blew himself up with smoke and gunpowder while wanting the little daughter of chief of village to be like the pretend Disney princess.
Famous quotes in history: "I've heard some amazing stories about him." "Are you crazy?!?" "We'll kill ourselves." "And if any Indian tries to stop me, I'll **** 'em." "I especially like that smile." :D "WhoaaohW WhoaaohW" "QUIET!!!" "Hey there, Percy." "Keketa, what do you see?" "F*** you, Keketa." "What if we run into any *******?" "Come closer, John Smith." "It wasn't me."
I would like to say after reading about the real story of Pocho and John you can all agree with me that this an alternate twist story of the historicial story of the Powhatan and the Jamestown settlers ya. Nothing personal.
@@heihogreenzx4704 Making an animated musical about a real person (who was like 11 back there btw) was a terrible concept to begin with, especially since it didn't go like this even in John Smith's made-up story (he copied some spanish guy's story that was popular in England at the time)
@@saagabragi6938 Damn, you're right. I returned to the movie, and it's really fucking boring. Then again, the last time I watched it was when I was 11-12, but nostalgia fucking imploded on it. The only redeeming factors are the pretty good animation and the songs, and even with the latter, there's some hamfisted messages. The only thing I'd even see someone watching the movie for are the songs, and even then, they can just be looked up on TH-cam. The plot is boring, characters are uninteresting (and inaccurate), the romance is stupid, etc. I never even took the movie as historically accurate, but even then, returning to it now that I've developed critical thinking more, the movie has almost nothing going for it. It's dull, unbelievably inaccurate, and just flat out not enjoyable. Really wish I returned to the movie to see just how sub-par it is. Thanks for pointing it out though. I genuinely appreciate going back to something from my childhood and seeing if it's held up, and in the case of Pocahontas, it failed miserably.
@@heihogreenzx4704 The _Anastasia_ movie is also kind of shit now that i rewatch it. It doesn't have the same colonialism&genocide baggage _Pocahontas_ does, but they decided to make a fantasy musical about a real, murdered child. Then they also made it out to look like the tsars did nothing wrong and the revolution was caused by Rasputin's (also a real person) magic curse. The stage musical _Anastasia_ is much better for ditching Rasputin and magic.
@@saagabragi6938 I think the movie still works if you're aware the Tsar wasn't the best ruler. And while it's tragic that the real Grand Duchess died, there was belief for a long time that she had survived at it's inspiring that someone could overcome such a terrible tragedy. Is Downfall a lesser movie because we now know Hitler survived the war and lived out the rest of his days in peace and solitude?
