I used one of these stoves for years on backpacking trips. I got tired of various ways to prime the stove, so I got real good at just putting a bit in the cap, pour it into the well, recap it, and light it up.
@TheSaltedDog Well, in that case, the original method back in the day, was to use a glass eye dropper. However, a small length of metal tubing from a hobby shop, should work fine, and is not broken as easily as glass. Just dip it into a fuel source, put your finger over the end to seal it, and draw it out and dump it on the well. If it is not too cold you can cup your hands around the fuel tank to warm it up, and actually get fuel to come out after a time when you open the valve. Just let enough run out, close the valve, and light it up.
Neat idea using a primer-wick! I use a small pipette to get some fuel to prime the stove as they weigh absolutely nothing to bring in a backpack. There is a pump you can buy to push some pressure into the tank for the Svea to get it lit a lill easier. It fits right on top the filler hole.
A pipette! Brilliant! I'll find a small brass tube and put my finger over the upper end after dipping it in the fount a ways to lift the right amount of fuel for the priming well. Thanks for commenting!
@@TheSaltedDog I bought a "stove rope" in our lokal hardware store...8mm thik and 2m long...normally its used in house stoves for sealing....its made out of glasfibre...so it is fire resistant...it can be used for years....if you wish i can make a video for you
@@dimazimmer175 Thanks for your comment and the video link. I'm familiar with that fiberglass rope having used it myself on woodstove doors. I agree with you, it's the perfect wick material. I'm going to try it. Thanks for your help.
Thanks so much for your positive comment! I enjoy knowing there are others with similar interests. People like yourself are why I keep posting videos. Thanks again,
i too use a "pipette", mine is from a covid test kit, to transfer fuel from the tank to the spirit cup, works great and weighs nothing. Since this stove has a self pressurizing tank, no pump needed!

That method is not a good match for someone with my level of coordination. I can imagine spilling my fuel and drinking cold coffee.

You can put a wick around the burner in the groove.
Yes, that's true. But the wick would be single use that way I think.

Thanks Skully. A pipette is the route I'm going to go with this.
