As an American, I'm sure I would like Pakistani food. I've had various Middle Eastern foods and like them. A former coworker was from India. She would bring in Indian food to our pot lucks. I was probably the only one who liked everything she brought in. Some of the other coworkers wouldn't even try it.

They started eating the pies with their hands first before the Turkey until I showed them how . The elders called the neighbors to come because they couldn’t believe it and they were so amazed by it. When I was on business in Syria for quite a few days we had time off over a weekend. This was 1977. Things between Syria and Israel were beyond just testy. Assad's father was the President then. With all of that the people in Damascus behaved like people in any city going about their business. What I want to share is that our business host invited us to his family's farm for a day. Hours of driving out of Damascus we arrive and it is an orange orchard. Blood oranges. I had never heard of this variety in my life but OMG - munch munch slurp, suck, munch. Right off the trees. I was 22 years old being along to learn the business from my boss before he retired. He was well along in years. The host pops the trunk of the car, pulls back a blanket and there is a case of cold beer in cans. These Syrians were Arabs but Christian so no foul. The good beer imported from Greece. Local Syrian and Egyptian beers are piss, IMO. I guess they felt that way too :). So now it's chug chug burp chug. After a few of those he goes back in the trunk and pulls out a beautiful shotgun and a case of shells. Whoah. But it was cool. I'd toss an empty into the air when the guy with the shotgun calls for it and blam! We took turns shooting and throwing the cans. I'm thinking to myself, this is like good old boys in Texas. People are pretty much the same everywhere, given a chance to be themselves. Men want their wives happy, their mother-in-law especially happy, their daughter studying and not dreaming about boys, and their son choosing a career before he leaves school. Sorry that was a long story.

I'm hoping they showed them how it's made, and explained that we have many types of pie. It's also mostly eaten on holidays and birthdays. My paternal grandfather was German, and so my dad does pie instead of cake for his birthday. Cheese is really good on top of apple pie if you don't do the ice cream. Pear is the only other one I can think of that is good with cheese, and it's a different one than I would do with apple.

Where are you from? In Italy a guest would never serve himself seconds and thirds... They could *ask* for a second if it's a close friend or a family member, but they would never just get up and take it, and asking for more actually implies a compliment. It's good manners that the host offers more as soon as they see their plate empty.

When my family moved from NY to NJ, a local general store had a homemade apple pie that sent the entire family to culinary Nirvana. It was a lattice topped pie with course granulated sugar sprinkled on top. So far, only Costco sells an apple pie close to it. I love seeing these reactions to food never tasted before. It fills me with happiness to see their positive reactions.

I love Pakistani food! As a teen I worked with a Pakistani American and her mother packed dinner for BOTH of us all the time! Amazing people and food. 💕
@@mildredpierce4506 I love that I raised my children to have an educated palate. They ADORE Indian and Pakistani food. It is so insulting to people when they proudly serve something they have cooked to people who refuse to appreciate their effort.

I moved to Egypt for a few months. I made the family I stayed with an entire Thanksgiving Dinner for them. They started eating the pies with their hands first before the Turkey until I showed them how . The elders called the neighbors to come because they couldn’t believe it and they were so amazed by it. I had a Turkey flown in from Morocco bc they didn’t have them there. Best day ever

When I was on business in Syria for quite a few days we had time off over a weekend. This was 1977. Things between Syria and Israel were beyond just testy. Assad's father was the President then. With all of that the people in Damascus behaved like people in any city going about their business. What I want to share is that our business host invited us to his family's farm for a day. Hours of driving out of Damascus we arrive and it is an orange orchard. Blood oranges. I had never heard of this variety in my life but OMG - munch munch slurp, suck, munch. Right off the trees. I was 22 years old being along to learn the business from my boss before he retired. He was well along in years.
The host pops the trunk of the car, pulls back a blanket and there is a case of cold beer in cans. These Syrians were Arabs but Christian so no foul. The good beer imported from Greece. Local Syrian and Egyptian beers are piss, IMO. I guess they felt that way too :). So now it's chug chug burp chug. After a few of those he goes back in the trunk and pulls out a beautiful shotgun and a case of shells. Whoah. But it was cool. I'd toss an empty into the air when the guy with the shotgun calls for it and blam! We took turns shooting and throwing the cans. I'm thinking to myself, this is like good old boys in Texas.
People are pretty much the same everywhere, given a chance to be themselves. Men want their wives happy, their mother-in-law especially happy, their daughter studying and not dreaming about boys, and their son choosing a career before he leaves school. Sorry that was a long story.

I'm an American but parents and rest family is from Eritrea, Africa. I visited that place once. Met my paternal (dads side of my grandparents) grandfather. This guy has my grandfathers spirit. I'm hoping they showed them how it's made, and explained that we have many types of pie. It's also mostly eaten on holidays and birthdays. My paternal grandfather was German, and so my dad does pie instead of cake for his birthday.
Cheese is really good on top of apple pie if you don't do the ice cream. Pear is the only other one I can think of that is good with cheese, and it's a different one than I would do with apple.

Here in the west, very few guests would show that kind of thankfulness and humble appreciation. Rather, our guests would say, "sure, I'll have another piece or just get up and serve themselves to seconds, thirds, etc . . . These villagers have a different culture but they're like a breath of fresh air in the stuffy and arrogant world we live in right now.

I have been to Europe 2 times and people in west, not all, have a rather selfish way of thinking, I feel like they do not appreciate even the little things in life and take many things for granted. Here in pakistan our culture and religion teaches us differently. We live every day like it is our last.

Where are you from? In Italy a guest would never serve himself seconds and thirds... They could *ask* for a second if it's a close friend or a family member, but they would never just get up and take it, and asking for more actually implies a compliment. It's good manners that the host offers more as soon as they see their plate empty.

@Miki Mono im the opposite, bakalava is toooooo sweet, i can only eat a bite or two and that's it. I had it for the first time in Bosnia on a missions trip. our host was gracious to give us some. I had to eat it all or else it wouldve been rude. my tummy was hurting afterwards.

When my family moved from NY to NJ, a local general store had a homemade apple pie that sent the entire family to culinary Nirvana. It was a lattice topped pie with course granulated sugar sprinkled on top. So far, only Costco sells an apple pie close to it.
