    Your wholesome videos remind me of rabbit garden books I use to read to my children when they were little. I unexpectedly lost my home and my gorgeous garden earlier this year 😢and every time I watch your videos I’m encouraged that one day God will restore my home and a brand new garden 🪴 better than the one I lost. Pray with me 😇

    Okay, got my answer-GEORGIA!! I’m in NC, SE corner and I had a black eyed Susan patch that spanned two acres (in NJ) that I only planted with a few seed heads a few years ago. I haphazardly threw them around with no real plan. We mowed the emerging plants down by mistake, not knowing that they were spread them even more. It was spectacular! I had to leave that garden and now I am hoping that I can re-create that here in NC. I see it in my minds eye a hundred times a day…

    I would check those nest boxes for red mite. I don't know if you've come across these before, but they're incredibly common in the warmer months. Until they feed they're actually greyish, like ash. When our girls started choosing to lay outside of the boxes, it turned out that mites were an issue; sitting in those boxes was clearly an uncomfortable, itchy experience!

    Possibly a privacy or height issue on the hen's laying in the corners of the hutch. Larger hens may be roosting on the boxes at night. They also may prefer the shavings vs. straw. Sometimes straw can harbor mites. 🐔

    • @abeautifulnest
      @abeautifulnest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It may be a height issue! We haven’t had any issues with mites but that’s good to know. I hope it stays that way. I keep diatomaceous earth in the coop. I used some stray with the shavings this winter because we dipped into unheard of temps! So they needed a little more warmth but shavings is my go to. I use straw on the coop run floor though. It gets so muddy in there! Any suggestions? I use sand in the run of the hen house.

    • @marciabyram6003
      @marciabyram6003 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abeautifulnest Yep, get some rubber stall mats. I use them for my mules. Love them.
      LeadFarmer73 puts diatomaceous earth mixed into a dusting box and the chickens keep themselves self medicated against mites. I thought that was pretty cool.

    You can break them out of laying in an area by blocking it off. Chickens are creatures of habits so they do not like change. There is probably a design flaw causing them not to lay where you want. But can you make a video show your nesting boxes.

    • @abeautifulnest
      @abeautifulnest  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure I can show you my boxes. There was a huge snake in them once, would that be the issue? Trauma?

    • @victorybeginsinthegarden
      @victorybeginsinthegarden ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@abeautifulnest yes trauma lol before you make new nesting boxes I would look at the old area and see what the problem was because if you use the old design in a new area you may have the same problem
