Dramatic, edgy, angsty 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen kpop is everything good in life
This came out of nowhere LMAO literally Cry and Stay are still in my everyday playlist they're of my favorite songs of all time hands down. My god I just really love MBLAQ, plus the angst from second gen is what keeps me wrapped in their music all these years xddd
CRY has to be one of my FAVORITES from them. I love them and miss them so much.

I love that Lee Joon was a famous visual in 2nd gen but it's G.O. who had you like "him PRETTY" 😂 it's what he deserves!! Mona Lisa is my favorite, one of the few mini albums I made room in my luggage to take home from Korea ♥
honestly i always thought G.O. was prettier than Joon.(kinda resemble Rain too imo), like his eyelashes were everything to me but people were too distracted by the stache and stubble.
just a quick FYI but one of the members Thunder is actually 2NE1's Dara's younger brother

The groups are amazing and I'm wondering why no one talks about it, sing or dance to their song. I hope kpop idols nowadays dance or at least remember the groups. What a legend
When you mentioned the stubble - Mblaq made a big splash at debut for debuting with a member with facial hair (G.O) and often had visibile stubble on shows. Also, because they were Rain/Bi's grouo (why Joon was also in Ninja Warrior as younger Rain).
Stay is probably still one of the easiest songs to learn to sing along to in kpop.

The flag thing - I'm South African we we have our flag on a lot of things here, also on men's clothes the old Japanese Rising Sun flag is or was a popular design, but yeah, mostly USA and UK flags on things, but when it comes to written place names it's mostly USA which sucks (like t-shirts that say New York or San Francisco etc.) and sometimes European cities like London, Paris or Milan etc. - very unfairly USA centric. Tokyo used to be used often in the early to mid-2010's though on both men's and women's clothing though but not in recent years. Don't really see African flags in other countries though but most of the world thinks Africa is one country... 😒 Saw a comment saying it's Colonialism - disagree, as we won't buy Nigerian or Tanzanian flaged clothing items in SA (and goes the same way for other African countries) but will buy like Italian, Brazilian or UK, so nah, more like we are fans and influcenced by their pop culture (tv/music) or sport (like football) - so not a Colonialism thing.
The pretty guy with the pretty voice that you mentioned is called G.O. and everytime I see him I remember the time when he jokingly told the story of how he lost in this nationwide singing competition. He came in 2nd place and he was surprised to see that the first place winner was someone 2 years younger than him and it was our TAEYEON!! Hahahaha

They debuted in 2009 under Jtune camp and Rain made the group, they were known as his kids. After Rain finished his military service he left the company and the group kinda went on a decline.......the company was t r a s h
Last 2 comebacks they received almost literally 0 support from the company and years after they disbanded they found MBLAQ music show no1 trophies at a flee market 🤬 their situation was rly sad when the company dropped support ;-;
Stubble guy, good looking with good vocals is G.O! He recently got married as well and has his own youtube channel and sings often. his vocals are h e a v e n l y
Thunder (starts Mona Lisa) is the 2nd rapper xD he's Daras younger brother and he's been releasing some solo music
The nakey boy is Lee Joon and he ventured more into acting ever since he left the group. He also starred as younger version of Rain in Ninja Assassin owo
Rapper Mir (shades in Mona Lisa) is uh...doing sum weird youtube videos but as long as he's happy ig?xD
Seungho was the leader of the group and last I knew he was doing musicals ✨
The group is stupidly hilarious, they have absolutely no filter so even if you won't react, I highly recommend watching Sesame Player at least, there are cuts on YT as well!

I remember the summer of 2010, getting more into kpop, discovering "Y" and watching with my friend and be were like "OMG THIS SONG IS AMAZING"

Honestly when MBLAQ debuted one of the things that garned so much ttention was the fact that a member had facial hair. Honestly pretty un heard of. idols who are actual normal people can grow facial hair(who knew). Anyway, compared to other groups they debuted at an older age and were very much often called "(Bi)Rain's group". And Rain did have a hand in their production the first few years. However even then they didn't have the easiest debut. The group literally practiced in a basement and Seungho( full lucious lips, panda eyes), thier leader served as their manager until the company could actually afford one. Thunder(his hair doesn't look that far off from a bird's nest in STAY) had actually only trained for a few months before he debuted after a sudden member change in the group line-upand j. tune wasn't even able to rerecord the tracks on the album becaude of time and money so his voice isn't even on the album. In general while they had a lot working for them they had a lot working against them when they debuted.
They gradually gained popularity through their music of course but honestly I think most of their popularity, in korea at least, stemmed from variety show appears. Each of the members are absolutely hilarious and all together they're pretty chaotic, and were often scolded but their company and Rain himself just because they have such a hard time filtering themselves. They definitely earned the title of variety-dol.(strong heart, idol army,star golden bell, sesame player to name a few good ones). Eventually MBLAQ grew to a point were you could say j.tune was pretty well off. Or so it seemed...
The company debuted a girl group TwoX in 2012. But TwoX just didn't really get off on the right foot and were not promoted well at all. It was around this time I guess you could really started to see the cracks in J.tune's management( the joke of a central america tour that i wanna say never really happen, poor promtin, you could see a change of attitude with the MBLAQ members at times, etc.) . In 2014, Joon ( abs, crazy sharp jawline) and Thunder parted ways with the company and actually left MBLAQ( and don't get me started on how J.tune tried to hide the fact that they left for a few months). TwoX ended their contract with J.Tune and signed with another agency. ( I always figured it was a hint at money troubles.) The company ended up debuting another group, Madtown, and just like TwoX they really didn't succeed.. MBLAQ released Mirror in 2015 and other than the obvious hey it's just three member now promotion, there wasn't much else done. And by 2016, Madtown's contract was actually sold to another company(without much agreement from the members), and j.tune basically went silent. There were no updates or any schedules for MBLAQ, in fact news of J.tune no longer exsisting didn't even come from j.tune themselves. fans were reporting that the office was emptied out . Reports of people finding MBLAQ's awards at flea markets or on sale online were made and fans were furious. And it was eventually confirmed that j.tune infact filed for bankruptcy and no longer exsisted.
Technically, MBLAQ is on hiatus, but honestly all of the members have moved on. Doesn't keep me from missing them though(especially as 5) but overall I'm happy for them like G.O.'s married, Seungho's doing musicals, Mir is living on his family's farm half the time, Thunder is doing his own music thing, and Joon is into acting.

I miss Mblaq soooo much and 2nd gen kpop in general. It was so emotive, some times a biiiit camp and just overall mesmerizing

It's been ages since I've seen anyone react to MBLAQ!!!! Stay and Mona Lisa were a couple of my favorites back then. And Cry was just so pretty with the dancing in the water. I'm sure you'll get to This is War eventually and that's another good one especially with the choreo. Mirror too. No Love is probably my absolute favorite though. I loved the MV for it.

Aww, this brought me to a very happy place. This band was my very first K-POP band to ever follow, and I had the chance to see their career together from the beginning till the end. They brought me out of many-a dark places as I distracted myself with their music and variety content (they're a good riot, btw). I miss them very much, thank you greatly for just reacting to them, I haven't seen anyone talking about MBLAQ in literal years

Regarding flags, at least in Mexico, the law mentions that if we misuse it we are subject to a fine and even jail so we can't use it on clothing or anything, we can only hang the flag. About MBLAQ I never considered myself an A+ (the name of their fandom) but I have a lot of affection for them and they have a little place in my heart (haha soooo cheesy but it is true) I remember when I watched their shows and how much I laughed and enjoyed it. To this day I continue listening to their songs every day and it is as if the time didn't pass every time I hear them I enjoy them a lot.

I'm also super glad you loved Cry and Stay; those two are definitely personal favourites I put on the playlist, not because they are super popular in comparison to the others on the playlist. Also, I always thought Mir's rapping was severely underrated and he's so good in both those tracks.
