I loved that model of the Sea Ray, I couldn;t afford one new, I ended up buying a less expensive boat about the same size. I spent 4 days each month on Lake Powell in Utah and loved every minute of it... Good on Ya'!!
Your thinking is correct, we didn't for those reasons. New gel coat on the non slip really is the only way to go to get it 100%, even if it is thinned down and built up to allow shape texture retention. At least that way you can retain the grip. If you have the same non-uniformed texture then it's easy. Uniformed (diamond etc) non-slip can be a pita, but do-able if you know how to take molds. Like the Xbox cooling btw, send me one!
Fantastic job guys! I'm working on an 85 sea ray 300. It isn't as rough as yours started off but it has some gelcoat gouges. Did you just gelcoat and sand or did you use a filler?
...and how did you get the oxidation off the textured deck without ruining it? I'm afraid to sand mine because I don't want to hit the high spots and miss the low spots.
Owner paid £1.00 seriously! Since then of course he has spent a fair amount in getting her in shape and running correctly, twin V8's now purr, re-furbished cockpit & interior, so lots, lots more spent.
poor old boat!! it was so sad before....glad you guys did all that work and saved it from demolition!!

Impressive work, any idea how many hours went into the gel coat repairs?
In my opinion...around £30,000, owner will never sell though, video doesn't do her justice, she's a beauty!
How much do you reckon this boat is worth?? *in its old state

Colour matched gel coat, then sand - compound - polish etc.
Filler? how dare you!
a $10,000 boat turning into almost $100,000
Too many!
