Great video. One thing I have noticed with some junior players is their parents. Some really do better when the parent is not there and others better when they are court side with the coach supporting them. I have personally been very nervous when my parents use to be there at my tournaments when I was a junior. I think it is really important for a coach to talk with the parents as well and assign “roles”. Some parents tend to give advice to their children even though it might be different than what the coach wants them to focus on.
The part about wording advice with positive wording is so true! If you tell someone "Don't think of a pink elephant!" They're going to picture a pink elephant lol. The same ia true for tips in a game. For example: "Don't hit it into the net" vs "Just keep it over the net." Or "Don't hit cross-court" vs "Keep it straight!" Or "Don't lift so much" vs "Drive more, be more aggressive". Etc. Feedback worded in a positive way and centered specifically on the message you want the player to understand is the way to go!
EXCELLENT advice. Would love a series of videos on coaching activities, routines, and scenarios that involve multiple players. I have 32 plays and only 3 courts. I can have 12 players on these courts at a time. What arrangements can I use for these 12 players, and what can I do for the 20 left waiting for their rotation on the courts?
