Thanks for stopping by Toledo. I wouldn’t say we’re never brought up but we definitely don’t get noticed that much. I recommend staying a week during hockey season and watching a home Walleye game. Probably one of the best experiences you can have in Toledo.
Vermilion, my old home town. I once lived in the 2nd floor apartment in that first building on the left as you go ver the railroad tracks. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Vermilion! Mrs. DaubSquad had an uncle that lived there! He had a sailboat that he’d sail on Lake Erie. Also, dueling bari saxophones. Bari saxophone is Mr. DaubSquad’s favorite saxophone to play!!!!
Great episode, Robert. Tony Packo's is well known to MASH fans, too. Jamie Farr was from Toledo and often mentioned it on the show. Never stopped in there, but by it many times. My daughter lives in Vermilion, within walking distance to the lighthouse. It is a neat little town. When the sky is clear, you can see Cedar Point from the lighthouse. The Harvest Host looks like a nice place to stop. It was fun seeing the area again. Thanks for the great upload, Robert.
On the TV show MASH, Jamie Farr (Clinger) would sometimes mention that he was a fan of the Toledo Mud Hens!! (Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers)
Lived in Toledo for 13 years. I will always have love for that city. There is so much to get into. Good restaurants, great zoo and museums, the parks, and it is all so affordable. There is a great steak restaurant in the Oliver House. West Toledo and Sylvania are good areas to check out. Some restaurants to check out when you return: Schmucker's Sidon Inky's Rudy's Michael's Cafe and bakery Grumpy's I could go on and on.
Hi I kept coming back to watch your travel videos. At least once in a while...coz I enjoy watching them. When I was in school geography was my favorite subject. I remember studying about the geography of North America. I studied them a lot. All these videos remind me of many US and Canadian cities I read and heard about those years...such as Detroit, Denver, Chicago, Phoenix, Toronto, Regina, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Quebec, etc. Many more places to list down here. Thank you for taking me to Ohio this time. There's too much to study. US is such a vast and fascinating country.
Wow toledo my childhood city, there are so many memories about that city in my life. now i live in california but every 1 week or 2 weeks i always go to toledo to meet my friends. thanks man nice video.
My older brother lives in Toledo and it was good to see it again. I haven't been there in more than 15 years so it was good to get a reminder of what is there! Thanks.
Very nice Robert i love the simplicity of your videos sharing your experiences on the road. Best part of the North coast of Ohio is exploring all the lakeshore and the Islands Kelly's, South Bass (PutnBay) and smaller island Middle Bass which has a small winery Lonz Winery.
Hey Robert! I am a traveling nurse and just came back to Cedar Falls, Iowa from Illinois after visiting family. I stopped at the I80 truck stop because you said it was so great! Was not disappointed at all. That place is amazing. Love watching your videos and figuring out where I want to go next.
You were so close to of my faorite places in Toledo. Manhattan Marsh is gorgeous that time of year, and then Cullen Park is a total hidden gem in terms of places to see Lake Erie.
Robert, this video really hit home because I live in Toledo. Once a thriving industrial city with Champion Spark Plug, Jeep Corp, LOF glass and Owens Corning, but most of it has been scaled back. Jeep is still rocking. The city is old but it does sit on Lake Erie, one of the treasures in this country. I'll look for your signed hot dog bun the next time I go to Tony Packos. Continue to have fun making your great videos and always be safe my friend.
I grew up in Toledo Ohio and I currently live in North Carolina. It sure was good seeing the good old high level, downtown Toledo and the east side. East Toledo as well as all the other sites. I got to tell you last year I did go back to Toledo and even though there is some beautiful changes for the most part I don't miss Toledo. I was in part of the Great drain. There's an old saying that says anybody with any brains left I believe it was all of Ohio. There was some great changes and growth at Toledo hospital that I liked but there still was nowhere near enough changes to make me want to go back. There's not that many services coming from the city but the taxes are rather high for my taste for what you get. I did enjoy the sights at international Park and nearby rossford Marina was an enjoyable place to relax in your car. I sure did like seeing the old i-280 bridge, that bridge replaced an old drawbridge and is I believe the largest in Ohio and there was a major accident during construction where a few people died but it was pretty miraculous that there was only a few people because it was during rush hour traffic and the old 280 bridge was underneath it still being used. That bridge is a beautiful bridge and probably the best renovation that I saw in Toledo. It was good last year when I drove over it again to be able to look down the river and see the beautiful sight there and look at Old North end from above. One thing you may not know is that Toledo is the glass capital of the world and Toledo used to be the home of I believe 5 world headquarters of companies, most of which left after the industrial age suffered so badly. Did you enjoy international Park?
That's really funny, Jamie. I grew up in Toledo and also lived in North Carolina and could hardly wait to get back to Northeastern Ohio. I would never live in North Carolina again, no matter how much anybody paid me.
In addition to canals and railways, the area was influenced by the petroleum industry. John Rockefeller and Henry Flagler of Standard Oil lived in Cleveland. It is a beautiful area along the Lakes in the summer time. I look forward to next week's adventure.
When you "Come Back" to Ohio, you have to drive the Costal Ohio Trail. While some of the trail is not directly next to Lake Erie, most of it is. I live about 26 miles east of Lake Erie, and visit Vermilion and Cleveland quite often. If you were there in August, I hope that you visited Progressive Field, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Playhouse Square.
I tuoi viaggi sono sempre fantastici e mi diverto anch'io viaggiare con te. Posti e visioni favolosi. Grazie per tutti questi posti che L'America offre per mezzo di voi che amate la Vostra patria a stelle e strisce. Grazie ancora.
Hey Traveling Robert! Thanks for traveling through Toledo. When you return please check into Grand Rapids Oh and the Open Openings area. They have things to see and RV parks.
Have never seen one of your videos before, but I am glad it appeared in my recommendations. Born and raised along the border of Toledo and Michigan my entire life. What I enjoyed about your video, was that you capitalized more so the good parts of Toledo. In my opinion, as years go by, Toledo has become more rural, especially near the city. Seems as if more people are trying to distance themselves away from it, towards areas south like Perrysburg or north in Lambertville/Temperance. If you ever stop by again, there’s more neat places to visit. The Imagination Station along the Maumee River is another cool spot. The Toledo Zoo is also a great place to spend the day, especially near Christmas time. A local ice cream spot known as “Netty’s” is very popular as well, in my opinion. Can’t forget about the minor league sports teams, too. Great video. Subscribed, and anticipating on seeing where you stop next!
Thank you for another great episode. Funny on the detour up through MI. Mine tried to do the same thing when we were headed to Cedar Point from Chicago, at 3 a.m.. so it doesn’t have anything to do with traffic. I think it’s a glitch.
Hello again, Robert. I just remembered that you were literally a few blocks from my home when you drove down the blvd to see Lake Erie and Turtle Island. When you were stopped to look, you were between Chuck's home (left side) and Jim's (right). Anyway, Point Place is a nice divide from Toledo proper. I'm sorry I missed you, otherwise I would have dined with you at Tony Packo's. Have fun and be safe.
This is a very random comment @traveling Robert - I was feeling so down today and my energy was totally drained but I just thought of watching your new video and instantly my mood changed. Sometimes it’s not about a particular location or an agenda, just a random unplanned journey with some good music which was just what this was. Thanks 😊
First time tuning in here. Next time you come to Toledo come in the winter months. I will take you to a Walleye Game. Minor League Hockey at its finest!
I grew up in Point Place. Looked like 119th street. Next time you are through the area try and catch a Mud Hen or a Walleye game. Great video as always.
If you come back through Toledo and want to see some excellent architecture you should drive through The Old West End. It is a neighborhood right outside of downtown and is the largest neighborhood of late Victorian, Edwardian, and Arts & Crafts homes east of the Mississippi.
My entire immediate family, 6 unfortunately down to 3, except mysefl are from Toledo, I'm from Dearborn, MI. We used to go see my Grandpa and get dogs from Tony Packo's. Me and my brother used to set in the rear facing seat in our station wagon for the drive down to Toledo. You should read up on the Michigan - Ohio border 'war' that took place in Toledo on the state line.Over 1000 likes and not a single dislike, you must be doing something right.
Don't forget to go to Oklahoma. It's the state they call "The Land of Many Countries," because their is so many varied types of land and scenery. You name it, we've got it.
Happy Thanksgiving To you And your family Robert! Thank you for sharing all the great videos you make, they truly have inspired my husband and I to buy a RV and travel more!
We went to Lake Erie in September of 2020 and I believe we were on route 6. My husband and I and went and then went back in early May with our youngest and we took that route again and my son had a blast. If you very get back that way, try hitting the lake at sun down. It is beautiful. :)
Hey Robert, hope you had a good Thanksgiving! I like the John Muir quote on your shirt ("The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness") The Great Lakes Museum looks like a must-see, too bad you were on such a tight schedule. Oh well, there's just never enough time to see everything, is there? Happy trails!

Hi @Traveling Robert!!! I am from South Carolina and I love your traveling videos. I watched your videos since 2017.
Love the content, thanks Mr. Robert... Can't wait for the next one...
Great video Robert, the long ride was worth that beautiful Vermillion view and winery...thks again!
Oh wow, the ship museum looks wonderful, that one would have to be on my bucket list if I were in the area.
Nice seeing a video about Toledo! This part of Ohio doesn't get much love. You definitely saw the highlights and a few lowlights of the area.
And then a happy day after Thanksgiving to you Robert.
Lake Erie isn't my favorite great lake, but I do like Maumee State Park and the lodge.
You were so close to of my faorite places in Toledo. Manhattan Marsh is gorgeous that time of year, and then Cullen Park is a total hidden gem in terms of places to see Lake Erie.
