    In the mid 90's he and his band were stuck at the truck stop (where I worked) for a few hours while their tour bus was being repaired. I was the shoe shine stand contractor and shined 2 pairs of his boots while they were there. (I'm a white woman in my 70's now, about the same age he was when we met.) We had a great conversation about all sorts of things. He tipped well and afterward bought me dinner in the restaurant. He was an incredible musician on several instruments, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, drums, viola and mind blowing fiddle (sings too). He played every genre, from jazz to country, blues, rock, folk, electric, acoustic. He excelled with it all. I asked him which type of music he preferred. He said "Whatever I'm playing at the moment". He was a Grammy winner and spent a lot of time in Europe where he was, years before, more well known and welcomed.

      Wasn’t he wonderful? Sweet man. He came to a gig my band was having at our little cafe in Nacogdoches, Texas in the late 90’s. We thought the person in the opening act who announced his presence was tripping or lying about it being him, who danced in during her set with a lady on each arm. I’m not sure I could’ve played if I had really known that it was Gate right there listening to my band, my guitar playing, and really known how talented and important he was. Especially in our neck of the woods. Every time I saw him out at music events, he would nod and wave at me. Too tremendously cool.

      I was so privileged to have known Gate and worked on his 2 houses off of hey 11 in Slidell,LA. I would hang out with him at night at the Dennys ruck stop off of Gause Blvd. Or have dinner at Palmettos . He didn't take anyone's bs but if he liked you he was such a great friend . I always felt like the good lord blessed me when I met Gate . I grew up listening to him and loved the music that him and the Great Roy Clark did together FANTASTIC STUFF . EVERY thing he did was FANTASTIC LOVE YOU GATE !!! SUCH AN HONOR

      A friend of mine, Cal Freeman (RIP), was Gatemouth's stage manager and played pedal steel in his band for several years. Cal played with several famous artists/musicians throughout his career and he told me that in his opinion, Gatemouth was the most talented musician of them all, and the one he enjoyed performing with the most. They were also good friends.

    He was a great musician with a wonderful personality. Gatemouth Brown is the only one that I have ever seen play the blues so great on a violin. His style of music is one for the ages.
    I was fortunate to see him is concert several times, each was a wonderful experience.

    WOW what a great band! They play together employing DYNAMICS which is a word and a concept you don't see much with bands these days. The variation in loudness between notes and phrases.- Dynamics are why these guys sound so good. (besides being great musicians. So much better to me than playing at one volume - FULL BLAST all night long. Nothin' wrong with playin' loud but when Clarence and this band play they show that they're old pros. I Love it.

    It's crazy to me that Jimi Hendrix's name is all over the place to this day, but Clarence Brown's name is almost nowhere. I feel he was just as talented and impactful.
    He was a guitar wizard, played several instruments and even played the violin/fiddle like a guitar. He did really well but was amazing enough have gotten way more recognition.

    • @RSPSgamerHD
      @RSPSgamerHD 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the two were of a different caliber. Clarence is an extremely talented blues player but Jimi was an extremely talented guitarist and songwriter in general. Clarence plays the blues And his craft had been known for a long time and he was extremely good at his craft. Jimi on the other hand took his blues roots and pushed it to other boundaries into other genres and new techniques never seen before, the timing of Jimi’s arrival and his pushing of the boundaries are what made him a legend, if Jimi stuck to playing blues like this he would not have nearly the same status as he does. He took blues that was played like this and turned it into a fusion of several different genres, using new never before seen technology, and techniques nobody every really thought of before and turned the music world upside down. Clarence is a blues musician down to the roots but Jimi was something more if that’s understandable, especially in a very short life.

    • @njoysuccessnow
      @njoysuccessnow 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RSPSgamerHD Yep. I discovered Clarence back in the 90s when I fell in love with the guitar. I saw him do things with a guitar that just blew my mind. No gadgets. Yea. Jimi did have more mass appeal because of the stuff he played along with his playing style and songwriting. He definitely was special.

      i met him in Denver Colorado doing a solo act at a strip bar. They had a room with a quarter per game pool table, bigger than the typical bar box. I went there during intermission at which time the girls began to strip and Gatemouth showed up, introduced himself and we played pool until it was time for his next act. We played again after his set and I went back and played pool with him every night until his gig was over. He was loads of fun and being a musician myself I had loads of questions and learned all about his musical history and he was a pretty good pool player too. A perfect gentleman, win or lose.
