what are your thoughts around quitting a job? have you ever quit a job before or considered it?

I've quit a job back in 2019 to travel and I was being pulled towards it. Now at almost 40, I feel the urge to quit again because I am unhappy and feel burnt out but don't have "anything" to pull me towards a goal or lifestyle. However, I might just need a break to recalibrate and reset.

For a long time I had an existential fear of ever leaving my career job, but eventually I realized that I was too wrapped up in the notion of the job position being my identity. The sense of self importance was an illusion for the reason you mentioned in your corporate job example--people in organizations are primarily concerned with themselves (not with me), in addition to the reality that in every organization everyone, no matter how special, is ultimately replaceable. Internalizing that revelation made it easy to retire when the time was right. To be clear, I think this applies to jobs in organizations, not to creators of art or of business. Have a great Christmas and, If you don't post before then, Happy New Year!

Great video and I relate so much with this. Agree that most people will not care when you quit, I think I know that intellectually but hard to get over things emotionally. I actually want to quit my job and leave corporate America for good but can be hard to take the first step when you have a very cushy and comfortable job making really great money and it's fully remote.

I personally never quit a job unless I have something already lined up. Now that I have a good amount of savings, I could just drop it and survive for 6 months. I still think I'd hold out until I found something new, and just do the bare minimum at the job I wanted to leave.
