    In today's video, we take you to a completely different City Center; welcome to Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, East Africa's strongest economy, Africa's smartest city alongside Cape town, the world's only capital city with a national park. Welcome to my homeland, my city, Nairobi, Kenya.

    • @asilingamani
      @asilingamani  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Really? But why are they forbidding TH-camrs from filming...? My camera is quite small, so maybe that made me get away with filming. I've always wondered why city walks in Nairobi are quite rare...that must be it?🤦 But I've seen a few videos already

      @@asilingamani security reasons due to terror attacks in the past... it is believed that terrorists first do surveillance by taking videos and pictures to understand the the target, and since they can't tell who is a good citizen and who is not, they rarely allow any videos or pictures in the cbd or any possible target areas.

    No doubt Nairobi is a beautiful City but to call it the best city in Africa is a stretch. I love watching videos that show case the beauty of Africa and African people but we could do with the less of the 'best in Africa" claims.

    • @asilingamani
      @asilingamani  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for watching Clem, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Nairobi was ranked best city in Africa in 2021 by expatriates. Such rankings of best or worst are a worldwide thing not just Africa. Vienna for one has been ranking top on quality of life, and Scandinavian countries have been ranking top on the happiness level. These are not "claims" but actual findings backed up with data

    • @zimcoder
      @zimcoder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@asilingamani That's one the poll by Internations, a small subset of all expatriates. When you qualify the ranking as "by expatriates or the happiness index that is different from just declaring it the best city. Nobody disputes Kigali being the cleanest city because the "best" is qualified. You left the "as voted for by expatriates" which makes a big difference to the meaning of the word best. Its like claiming that Nigeria is the largest country in Africa without stating by population. Data findings must be presented within their context.

    • @asilingamani
      @asilingamani  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's more comfortable for people to hear Kibera is the largest slum in Africa, or data about corruption, war, poverty and suffering as far as the continent is concerned, without questioning/dismissing the data or the source
      It is also very comfortable for people to hear about the best quality of life and happiness level being said about Europe and USA, without questioning/dismissing the data and source.
      But remember that's because it is what we are conditioned to hear and see.

      Rankings have on several occasions put nairobi quite highly on different metrics but also poorly in some areas .Expatriates are the best people to poll on matters foreign cities ,since they literally are on the ground and widely travelled .Comparing Nairobi to j'burg or lagos in my view having lived in all 3 cities ,Nairobi easily wins ,I predict with sound management ,it will be a gateway trading city in Africa in 15 years .Historically as I learnt Kenya was late in economic takeoff but what I saw in the time there was a giant on the rise in continental Africa .much love from🇮🇱
