- The Beatles in mono: This is how most listeners first heard the group in the 1960s, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary.
On September 8 (September 9 in North America), The Beatles’ nine U.K. albums, the American-compiled Magical Mystery Tour, and the Mono Masters collection of non-album tracks will be released in mono on 180-gram vinyl LPs with faithfully replicated artwork. Newly mastered from the analogue master tapes, each album will be available both individually and within a lavish, limited 14-LP boxed edition, The Beatles In Mono, which also includes a 108-page hardbound book.
In an audiophile-minded undertaking, The Beatles’ acclaimed mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Sean Magee and GRAMMY®-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz.
While The Beatles In Mono CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers.

This needs to be reissued and exactly as they were! Along with the mono CD boxset, neither should've gone out of print!
Damn right!! I got the CD set at release, but somehow, missed the vinyl boxset release... I got most of them when they came out individually, but I'd still love that full boxset... :-)
The CD box set is still in print, you can snatch a new copy off Amazon.
no doubt i hear this is a possible repress of this set whispering
Thank got I got the cd box and vinyl box. I have extra single album releases I need With the Beatles,Help,Sgt Pepper and MMT and they are really pricy now.
I love this box set. I’m so happy I bought it on release day from Amazon.
Pete the distortion on Rubber Soul's cover has nothing to do with a fisheye lens. It was printed at an angle after it was accidentally projected that way onto cardboard when the Beatles were looking at possible cover photos.
I drooled while watching this video. Sadly I came back to vinyl too late and missed the opportunity to catch this box set when it was released.
The beauty of each of these albums comes through even on youtube. The Beatles! Toppermost of the Poppermost! Thanks for posting!
Beautiful box. I wish I could have everything in his room
I already feel nostalgic thinking about when this box set came out.
After a long search..I was extremely lucky to purchase this box set today at quite am incredible price. Was a gift to the seller that isn't into The Beatles and the albums were never taken out of the box let alone played. Can't wait to do a needle drop ;)
Fantastic review. I want to get this more than anything. Fantastic reproductions exactly like the originals. Just beautiful.
I use to watch this video all the time when it first came out. Later realized this video is basically ASMR about Beatles records, thats why I loved it
I remember you had a good collection in 1976ish when I used to come over and see Derek...
I love reviews by such knowledgable and enthusiastic fans such as this gentleman. Thank you so much for the video. Cheers from Maryland, US!
Can't wait to get a hold of mine! Looks superior in so many extraordinary ways. Dig it!
"...showing the Beatles trying to look like Oasis, but sadly packed with too much talent for that." A true laugh-out-loud moment in this video!
Oasis were better than the Beatles

So tempted to buy a turntable and go vinyl! The Beatles In Mono CD box is a thing of beauty but this just surpasses it. The LP sleeves themselves, the box and especially the book (I could spend all day just gazing at the photots, adverts and studio notes in the book!). It's going to take a great deal of restraint to not simply splurge and enjoy.
Great video and loved pausing it and gazing around the memorabilia etc around the room. A public service for Beatles fans everywhere!
Go for it. I highly recommend a Clearaudio Concept table. You'll never listen to cd's at home again.
DO IT DO IT DO IT. You will not regret a single penny of it.
Hello Pete.Back in the late 80s and 90s you were one of my contacts for cassettes of those many fantastic underground releases that were appearing around that time.Thank you Record Collector magazine, thank you Roger Scott and thank you Pete for the hours of listening pleasure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I have only two Beatles record's, both "stereo" reissues of "Abby road" and "the Beatles" (white album) ! But I'm just coming on to the Beatles now that I've gotten back into vinyl! And I want more, because all these years I was missing a lot of awesome stuff! I'd like to get the ones that were only recorded in mono in mono! The others that were recorded in both formats, I'd like to have both format copies! I'm 47, and It took all these years and a vinyl resurgence to get me to notice the Beatles FINALLY!
the Beatles forever!
I love that Ringo policeman cutout in the back. Where can you get something like that?
I am completely surprised and I am delighting in those LPs that are coming out of the box. Something today made me hum a lyric from these wonderful artists, musicians, characters. All I need is love...in these times of war, nothing is more necessary than love. And then a whole cascade of songs from those times when I was a girl but in my environment they were heard and repeated... They corresponded more to my parents' generation but it has remained a beautiful inheritance. How excellent that "paste" LPs can be made.
"do not eat or throw away"
*throws away*
haha great video
That mono box looks simply stunning. From what I just seen, the stereo box should be done over like that mono box. This time from the original masters and pressed in Europe, or one of the state of the art US pressing plants like RTI or Furnace.
great video, so expensive now, hopefully i will get this box set one day, thanks for sharing, cheers
I need this in my life. Thanks for sharing.
I want that box! It looks beautiful :)))
If you can afford the 2022 rip off price, they ought to be giving these old relics away these days, got them all in the 60s by the way Alf 75.
The Capitol rainbow swirl really goes well with vivid colors of Magical Mystery Tour.
Pete, you did a wonderful job with this video.
I have three separate titles from this mono set. I am convinced I must get the whole box set now!!!
Igual aos originais dos anos 60. Caramba. Dá água na boca de vontade de comprar a coleção inteira Mono e Stereo.
Jesus! that's a great mono box set.
Mohammed! Can't disagree with you there.
GETTING THAT FOR CHRISTMAS-FOR SURE
looks like the best boxset ever made
Don't wait for Christmas GET IT NOW...
I've just received the mono vinyl box, and I've played all the records up through "Revolver", and I'm playing L.P. 1 of "Mono Masters" as I type this. Uniformly excellent sound, quiet surfaces, on-center labels and (generally)on-center grooves. All the records are perfectly flat, and though I initially thought that L.P. 3 of "Mono Masters" had a warp, it actually had a very tight spindle hole. After pressing down on the label area(to ensure that it was seated properly), it turned out to not be warped after all.
As for the sleeves(album covers) they are a much closer approximation of the 1960's sleeves(versus the stereo vinyl box), but not exact. Yes, the first 8 albums have the fold-over flaps, but the front covers, while they are printed on semi-gloss cardboard, are NOT cellophane laminated like the 1960's originals. The sleeves for "With The Beatles","A Hard Days Night","Help","Rubber Soul" & "Revolver" have the correct(Matte-texture) cardboard for the rear of the sleeves, yet, oddly they use semi-gloss cardboard for the rear of "Please Please Me". The left inside of the "Beatles For Sale" gatefold has the correct (Matte) texture, but uses semi-gloss for the right inside of the gatefold. and, quite oddly, the front and rear "Slicks" for "Magical Mystery Tour" are on Matte paper. Go figure!! And, on the rear of the "Magical Mystery Tour" album cover, where Capitol Records factories are listed, Los Angeles is mis-spelled "Los Angels".
thanks pete
great and very enjoyable to watch
A jolly nice review there Sir. Thanks for the post.
I must admit, I loved the Stereo Box sets for both CD and Vinyl. Having said that-
The LP Mono Box has sold it for me. They have managed to reproduce "almost" pretty damn near faithful replicas of the original LPs. Somehow though, SOLD IN THE EU on the nicely reproduced Parlophone/Apple labels, does not look quite so good as SOLD IN THE UK like with the originals back in the day. "That would be my one and only criticism however"
I love the work that has gone into making these LPs. I had a fear that the book provided, would just be the same as the Mono box CD version but blown up to LP size. I was jaw droppingly happy to see that it contains new art work with some pictures and photos that I have never seen before alongside various clippings and various adverts from the day. They really did an excellent job on all counts.
The sound of these Mono LPs have totally blown me away. Anyone thinking about purchasing after shelling out on all the previous Box sets will not be disappointed with this latest offering. I purchased my set last Friday and did not think twice about the cash I parted with (I looked for the best deal of course as prices do vary)
If anybody out there needs a good excuse to buy a good turntable, a valve loaded pre amp and a nice set of Revox speakers, then this box set would be your good reason - and not to mention, a fantastic way to christen your investment and please your ears all over again. A Splendid Time Is Guaranteed For All.
This box seems beautiful. But as Chris Lightfoot says: "..If anybody out there needs a good excuse to buy a good turntable, a valve loaded pre amp and a nice set of Revox speakers, then this box set would be your good reason..." so that means that for listening vinyl the right way, I have to spend a lot of money. I understand the historical value of the mono mixes, because that was the way the albums were originally recorded. And the mixes have different details the stereo mixes don´t. But anyway, what keeps me off vinyl is the fact that I must have rather expensive equipment. In a way, with its flaws, CD democratized sound quality. I don´t need such an expensive gear as vinyl does to hear music witha decent or good sound. I must admit that CD, in general, needs a very good re mastering work. I don´t know what is your opinion of Japanese CD as SHM CD or Blu-spec CD. From my humble opinion and understanding, I'm very happy with the 2009 CD re masters of The Beatles Albums.
Ariel Escudero Hi Ariel, Thanks for your message.
One does not have to shell out a fortune for a good system to enjoy Vinyl. I bought a Technics SL-1200MK5 (just before they were sadly discontinued) a moderately priced pre amp and tower speakers. I set myself a budget and am very satisfied with what I have. One can go overboard and pay 3 or 4 times as much as I did. It is like anything else when it comes down to buying goods. I was just realistic, did my research and knew what I wanted to buy.
You are actually correct, you do not have to spend a fortune to enjoy your music and this includes Vinyl too. My statement was merely to encourage anybody who was thinking of buying a turntable to enjoy Vinyl again, or in this case THE MONO BOX. I was born in 1970 and was bought up with the Vinyl record. Like most people in the 80s, I put my LPs away in 1988 in favour of CDs. I bought remasters of Led Zep, The Eagles, Queen, Pink Floyd, The Stones, The Who and Hendrix but was never entirely satisfied with the overall sound. Either too loud, too quiet or too compressed or too much bass. You get what I mean. At the end of the day, most of the aforementioned groups all recorded their work long before the Digital age.
Going to a record fair in 2007 and buying some very good conditioned second hand LPs (and hearing the rumours that Beatles Remasters in both CD and LP formats are in development) encouraged me to go out and buy a Turntable.
In reply to your question, I have no idea about the Japanese SHM CD or Blu-spec CD. I will however investigate and look it up on the net. I also love the 2009 CD Mono and Stereo Remasters box sets. For travelling, I love to have the complete Beatles in my ipod. At Home though, it has to be Vinyl. Postion your speakers between your couch and just relax. My only complaint is that I have to get up every 20mins to turn the record over (ha ha ha)
Wishing you peace and best regards
Chris
OMG I want this!!!!!!
Good thing the albums are released separate!
Very nice unboxing video! Of course, hopefully the best part comes after the unboxing, when the albums are played on your turntable. Additionally, I hope that outer packaging, with the extra cardboard and foam pads, is used for all of the box sets that are mailed...so this heavy beast of a box set doesn't get damaged during shipment.
a Great box, that's for sure! ah.. I bought all the Beatles cd's in 1987, then in 2009 I bought the remastered stereo cd box, the remastered mono cd box, a bit later I bought the Capitol album collection, and finally the stereo vinyl box, a lovely box. I also bought the two BBC double albums on vinyl... I mean... McCartney & Starr surely won't have any financial problems for the rest of their days, haha...
Lovely to see unpack this lovely box set anyway! :-) Beatles Best Band ever, no doubt about it!
Those four songs from Yellow Submarine that were featured on the compilation LP were remixed for mono in 1969. On the original 1968 Yellow Submarine LP they were stereo fold downs like the other songs on that LP. Very nice video. I enjoyed the presentation. Thanks
No EMITEX inner sleeves? Damn. I'm still getting it, but damn.
Wow😱I will get it in Christmas next month this the Beatles mono I Love that
Excellent review, but now you have made me very envious so I have to start saving my pennies.
The Beatles 4ever ...
Hi Pete. Thanks for the cool video.
It's literally a blessing from God to get the opportunity to own this box set.
well damn guess i'm blessed now
@@utub1473 how much did you spend?
@@Jackson-jd1umAbout $450 CAD. Brand new. Amazon messed up and re-listed it at regular 2014 price.
@@utub1473 wow great find congrats
I don't know why I enjoyed watching this but I did
Superb review. For me the best way to hear The Beatles is in mono on a high end turntable and on quality vinyl.
Nice collection's of the Beatles.
I had to switch those outer sleeves. I listen to my records and they were a pain to take out all the time!
This is a first class presentation. Well done !
I want this so much!
Hi mate. Great video. I don't know if you remember me I go to the beatles record fairs with my nan. Great video. I didn't get the mono box set because it was a bit too much for me. Great video. Take care
Blimey! Who knew trigger knew so much about beatles albums
The inner sleeve for Sgt Pepper designed by The Fool, I believe.
16:49 their only remnant of their design for this album.
Obviously a Beatles brother that loves our musical angels like no other
We are so lucky

Anyone know if Apple/Universal have any intention of repressing this along the line? They have done it with Abba and Queen, and I wonder why this hasn't happened with this one.
For its' price, this box set HAS to be pressed flawless.
Muchas Gracias Pete Nash
Hey Pete,
Just noticed your comment re no single was taken from the white album, do you mean in the UK, because here in australia we had Ob La Di/While My Guitar as a 45, from memory it did well. Great Video of the box set by the way, they have certainly done a splendid job of it, finally a true momento done from the heart for us fans to soak up, cheers from oz, Tony
Revolution No.1 was a single but not the particular version on the White Album but the same written lyrics, B side of Hey jude!
Love i need this albums
Got to get you into my life, Beatles Mono box set.
I just started getting into The Beatles and would love to see a re-release or a new release of their Mono Mixes. I can't justify the inflated prices for the 2014 editions on the secondary market.
Go for the 2009 mono for now.
It doesn't come with the Magical Mystery Tour EP set, but it makes up for it by being in the movie deluxe set
The Beatles in mono. Wow. To answer 'why in mono?': this is how they would have heard them mixed and there are a few differences here between the stereo and mono versions. If you want the music as they would have heard it (certainly up to and including the white album), then this is really the way to listen to it. The stereo mixing was done afterward and is not always of the same quality (e.g. looped tapes had worn out badly by the time of the stereo mix, as in the jet intro to 'Back in The USSR').
Glad I got straight away. The set is up to a grand a ebay these days. These reissues have gone up in value faster than originals have. Haven't checked the individual LP mono reissues also issued.
it looks super!!!!
I'll be getting please please me individually to get that black and gold label!
great video well done !!!
They put extra songs on the second side of a hard day’s night and help to basically complete the whole album
Apple- please do a second run of this box set! Ok?!
Wish I bought the whole set a few years back, rather than several individual records. Even the less popular ones (Beatles for Sale, With the Beatles) are worth $100 these days
I just created a combo out of these Mono Masters CD tracks:
Hey Jude
Revolution
Only a Northern Song
All Together Now
Hey Bulldog
It's All Too Much
This is a total of 26 minutes. I am not sure that all this would fit with, Hey Jude and It's All Too Much, on one vinyl side. I like this set.
please, return to edit the box set in vinyl The Beatles in mono or separately, in Latin America, unfortunately they were not for sale in stores.
Nice review Pete. One thing Guitar weeps/Ob-La-Di was released as a single,at least here in Australia.
as well as here in Germany
Whoa I'd love that
I have most of the all the original..but this would be nice..
Great! Would have preferred the Magical Mystery Tour ep set as was intended
As of 1987 the US MMT LP replaced the EP and officially became part of the Beatles catalog. That's why the LP is included instead of the EP.
Excelente
The Beatles are the must great band of history world.
Have you ever heard of or seen an original 1964 'Meet The Beatles' stereo version (paste over) copy ?
The Beatles is our great religion.
Hi, Nice packaging, faithful sleeves, blablabla... How about the quality of the pressing? And is the sound any different from the original UK mono albums (which all I own as well as the mono cd 2009 remasters). I want this box real bad but need to know why. Help! A casual fan.
I like side 3 of Mono Master.
Side three
No. Title Lead vocals Length
1. "Bad Boy" (Williams) (from 14 June 1965 US album Beatles VI, 10 December 1966 UK album A Collection of Beatles Oldies) Lennon 2:20
2. "Yes It Is" (from 9 April 1965 B-side of "Ticket to Ride") Lennon, McCartney and Harrison 2:42
3. "I'm Down" (from 23 July 1965 B-side of "Help!") McCartney 2:38
4. "Day Tripper" (from 3 December 1965 double A-side) Lennon and McCartney 2:52
5. "We Can Work It Out" (from 3 December 1965 double A-side) McCartney with Lennon 2:15
6. "Paperback Writer" (from 10 June 1966 A-side) McCartney 2:26
7. "Rain" (from 10 June 1966 B-side) Lennon 3:01
I like the song order.
There is no side like this on the Past Masters vinyl.
I only have Mono Masters on CD, and created this on a burned CD. Not as good as vinyl but still pleasant to play.
I replace, "I'm Down" with "Ticket To Ride" for #3.
I label this side as, "Bad Boy."
Hi. I live in Texas. I wish to sell my entire Beatles collection. I've been a fan since 1964. Do you know if there is a Beatles appraiser in Texas!
Paris calling.Pete ,Where and how can i purchase this collection?
tks
john
Take2 ! My sincere apologies: I listened to Pepper again and the scratch on the A side was gone. Obviously, the vinyl needed a first listen. Bad Boy still has 4 bleeps but the rest of the box is perfect (I still have a few sides to listen to but I have regained confidence). I think Revolver really stands out. The Beatle AKA the White album is fantastic. Beatles for Sale is just like the 64 mono UK album, so it's awesome (voices, guitars..). And you need to listen to Pepper... What a sound. The book - I haven't read it - but I wish there had been more unknown in the studio pictures (Beats Instrumental, Beatles monthly book?). All in all, this box is superb. Cheers!
The Beatles never had one bad album
Hope i can own this boxset one day its quite pricy but it would be worth every penny in my opinion
Hey how do I get the Beatles fan club magazine , very cool video thanks
I've noted that you can't share a link to this video. Why? It is an advertisement, and you would think that Universal Music would want more consumers to see it. It would help them to sell more Beatles records

Please Help! How does one tell if they're buying a really nice genuine original UK issue cover sleeve vs. a 2014 reissue cover? The artwork is so similar!
The original sleeves have a cardboard brown color in the insides. The new ones have a white color in them.
I like this The Beatles Mono Vinyl Box Set, still available??

What do you play these on? I have an old system with a Girard stereo turntable from the 70's maybe, and 2 DLK/3 front speakers, a pretty fair center speaker with no name on it (I remember the salesman saying not to buy a cheap one, so It wasn't cheap), and a Kenwood dolby stereo receiver KRV7030
I love your Passion. You know so much too. I Must buy this boxset
What would also have been nice is if the had reproduced the inner sleeves to look the same as what they would have been like in 64 65 etc. I know its a small thing but as a record collector myself I like to try and keep the correct inner sleeves - so it would have been nice if they had reproduced those too
Hi, as an expert, please can I ask you a question. How do you tell if my vinyl stereo copy of Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram album is original 1971 or the 2012 reissue, or something in between? Can anyone answer, thank you?
