Evan and Kraig are both fantastic athletes… I’m fortunate in that I coach them both. As these two commented, it’s not just w/kg at FTP (which threshold power is typically less than an hour for most athletes), but stamina and resilience are very important as well. They have different strengths, and their training programs are quite different as well… there isn’t a single plan that is optimal for everyone.
As they noted, with a race this long, efficiency is critical. When working with Evan and Janie Hayes for their 2017 wins, using Best Bike Split modeling, every watt saved translated to around 1.5 hours saved. Tire choices (rolling resistance losses) and drivetrain lubricant becomes pretty important, besides the aerodynamics discussed in the video.

I rode the transam east to west last year and both athletes passed me in Colorado. After having done it I'm amazed at their mental toughness. The physical portion is tough but the mental challenge is what makes this race incredible. Congrats to both!

As a avid dot watcher of the Trans Am Bike Race from Australia, I really enjoyed the video, you've done a great job of putting it together with an overview of how the race unfolded, some great narration and questions of Kraig and Evan. It gave a great view of the personalities of both that come across as genuinely nice people. The questions were answered quite candidly and honestly, giving a amazing insight into the race . Would love to see the full interview. Great work, well done.
