This thing sounds gorgeous. I'm increasingly coming to the view that a good wavetable synth is all you really need if you want to make synthetic sounds. It can do all the analogue-ish stuff, but you get digital sounds with completely different waveforms to go with it. Add in some good filters and modulation sources/destinations and you're all set.
I have the Iridium keyboard, which is probably the 2nd best keyboard in the world (and the most beautiful). The Quantum mk2 is number 1 in my opinion. Waldorf truly make fantastic kit, after all, Hans Zimmer has three Iridium keyboards and has been using Waldorf equipment for over 30 years. That's good enough for me!
She's definitely a looker, and sounds incredible but then what else would we expect? I was hankering after a Quantum, then the Iridium launched with its 16 digital voices, but no keyboard, then the keyboard version of that launched, and just as I'm taking a look over that, this thing releases! Proper first world problem!
After watching thousands of synth demos, when I start hearing a pad demo in any new TH-cam synth demonstration video I expect something that gets boring quickly or sounds unoriginal. This evolving pad soundscape proved me wrong. It might the the polyphonic aftertouch? What a great synth
I'm struggling to justify if it's worth paying double the price of the iridium keyboard version. I mean, thinking about it one could purchase the Iridium keyboard version plus an Arturia Polybrute for the same price and combine everything...it just makes it hard to justify this one.

THis sounds great, of course. But the differences between the Mk1 and Mk2 Quantum are fairly minimal. Basically just the polyphonic aftertouch keyboard and some addittional user sanple RAM. So you can get essentially the same sounds from a Mk1 Quantum too.
considering getting one in place of my iridium keyboard. Jusr costs a lot more - for an extra octave keybed and the analogue filters - thats all I can see. And i do like the 6 Macros on the Iridium - Id miss those.

Unfortunately, good filters it exactly what it's lacking.

I ended up going for Vital and kept the 4.5 K.

Would iridium be that much different or are the analog components doing a lot here? Its a beautiful sound

Is this mainly presets? or can you make your own sounds. Is there much programming on the synth or is it quite straight forward to use?

Try running your Iridium through the Elektron Analog Heat. 😀
