Nope, he wasn't, you are just making excuses. That is like saying that Federer didn't cost Nadal the Australian Open 2017, but rather Dimitrov because Dimitrov and Nadal played a 5 hours semifinal and Nadal was tired in the final. A great-playing Murray costed Federer the gold medal, not this match. Federer wasn't tired after the long SF against Del Potro. The Del Potro-Federer Olympics SF only lasted 4 hours and 26 minutes. The Nadal-Dimitrov SF in the Australian Open 2017 lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes. That is to say, the Nadal-Dimitrov SF lasted half an hour more than the Delpo-Federer one. Federer was 30 years old in the Olympics 2012 SF, just like Nadal was 30 years old in the AO 2017 SF. Followiing your logic, Nadal lost the AO 2017 final because he was tired. To defend that Federer lost the Olympics final because he was tired, but Nadal didn't lose the AO final because he was tired is a fallacy (wrong argument) known as double standard logic (judging two similar situations by different standards, when in reality you should use the same standard).
He wasn't that exhausted. I do think he was like drained out of motivation, he only wanted a medal and he secured one with this victory which was even a dramatic one.
@@jameswalker6864 ya i agree if rafa had an easy semi he would have maybe won the 2017 ao, same here. if federer had an easy 2 hour semi final, he would have rolled murray just like he always did
@@RealisticAndTrue Think you've misunderstood. I didn't say he didn't deserve it, or that he's not class. My point is to come back the next day to play someone like Djokovic, after a four hour plus match that you lost and denied you the chance at a Gold medal, and beat him is absolutely huge.
So Federer owes Dimitrov a large drink after the 5 hours semifinals against Rafa in the Australian Open? Please note that the Rafa-Dimitrov was a larger match than this Del Potro-Federer. Stop with the excuses, Murray played better the final. Period.
It's a big adjustment to play a best of 5 match when the whole tournament has otherwise been played best of 3. That's why the ATP 1000 tournaments stopped doing it a long time ago. Also lets not forget that the 35 year old had a 3 hours semifinals match against Wawrinka, so it wasn't easy for him either. So I would say they were both pretty even going into that final.
Murray does not owe Delpo anything. Delpo played very well but Roger was below his normal standards for a match like this. It was clear for everyone to see and I think he knew it too. Roger's experience and the way he handles things under pressure for long periods of time got his through.
Yes, he does. Any person who understands a little about tennis knows that. Of course no one would ask Federer or Nadal about it, but, on that occasion, if Nadal had had an easy semifinal game, the outcome of the final would probably be different. As a Federer fan, I'm happy that the Australian Open went his way, and now I think he has an edge over Rafa even in 5 sets games (obviously not counting the French Open, that I don't think Federer will play again).

I hated this match, while very good, it seemed like it would never end, and I just wanted to see Serena! And I didn't get to see the match I wanted too because during the Olympics that year, me and my mother was staying with her friend, well he wanted to watch Perry Mason, so after this match went off, he turned to Perry Mason, not knowing that I wasn't watching for that match. And I was worried cuz all during 2012, whenever I watched her, she'd win, if I didn't she'd lose. luckily she won. Then I got to witness her eviscerate Maria Sharapova in the final!
One of the greatest Olympic matches of all time.
federer vs del potro and del potro vs djokovick 2016
Epic match - took nerves of steel just watching it. Can't imagine what Fed went through. Heroic effort from both players.
Del Potro, a warrior. Greetings from Brazil. Inspirativos
Fed was exhausted after this semi, Delpo made him frustated played tennis of his life, and again he (Delpo) did it again in Rio against Djokovic

Delpotro was broken after the loss, and Federer again class act at the net. Most loved and respected player for a reason. 🤝
Kinda mad the Del Potro recovered not just physically but emotionally to be able to beat Djokovic for the bronze after this.

I think Murray owes Del Po a large drink after this semi. Federer was a spent force in the final.

14DANESSJ how were they pretty even? Nadal spent much more time on the court and had a day less rest. Stupid Federer apologizers.
ROGER FEDERER said Juan Martin Del Potro inspired playing is the most dangerous player in the world ... dangerous is the right word
The problem is he was never inspired i guess because he is not even close to the most dangerous lmao
Del Potro played a medal match after this also against DJOKOVIC of all people and WON. ;)

wonderful game...but the sound comes sooner than the picture so you hear that the ball is out before you see it happening...very annoying....
I know right....
David Rezits jeez i thought that was happening just 4 me so its everyone? ekhh whyyyy!!! 😤
LOL it didn't matter if this was the Olympics, everybody was still cheering for Federer.
14 años tenía, era temprano y me puse a ver Roger vs Delpo. El mejor partido de tenis que ví en mi vida. Llegué tarde a la escuela ese día.

it would be nice to remove the result of the game from the title, even if it's a 2012 game....

Excellent game from both players. But the commentator is absolutely crap.

I know it’s been 10 years but please reupload the video with the sound correctly sync to the video
What a match
Federer at 18-17 40-30 missed an easy volley. Thank god he was at 40-30 and not 40-15. We know what wouldve happened if it was 40-15 xD
The audio for this match is not even synchronized with the video! Absolutely annoying to watch with the audio a second-and-a-half ahead of the video!

Federer should have won his Olympic gold but Murray has home crowd support. This is a fitting match for Olympic Gold.
Let Murray have his moment, he was robbed of so much
Murray was the much better player on the day…he deserved the gold.
Should have? We are giving out participation trophies now? 😂

Surely the A/V sync could be fixed here?
