She actually NAILED IT when she asked if the Tesseract was like Tony's chest piece. The Tesseract is the thing that Howard Stark was studying when he created his new element - the element that Tony "invents" in Iron Man 2 to save his life. Howard Stark effectively figured out how to replicate the Tesseract material as an element. Virtually NO ONE ever catches on to that.
