These were problem free almost..that 4 .6 didn't have the plug problem or the cam phasers issue like 5.4..this would definitely be a better bet than the 3 valve 5.4
The 2 valve 4.6 engine is about the most reliable V-8 on the road, and its smooth as silk. In these 11th gen F150's, they definitely felt more underpowered because those trucks were much heavier than the 10th gens (97-03). I had a 99 F150, reg cab, short bed, 2wd with the 4.6 & a 5 speed manual. That truck had good low end torque for such a small V-8, and full throttle it would actually pull very well especially with the 5 speed. And I would get low 20's on the highway which was unheard of back then in a full size truck.
I've been looking at range rovers, jeep cherokees and explorers, I'm beginning to like what I see from F-150s....they really as durable as everyone says?
Bought a 2008 SuperCab 6.5ft bed with the 4.6 2v last May with 181k miles, that's when the trans went. Put a new trans in it, now sitting at 190k and the engine purrs like a kitten. Leaks/burns some oil but it's working hard pulling jetskis, 5000lb trailers, and hauling dirt bikes. Been dead reliable in terms of powertrain.
You can tell if it's a 2 valve or 3 valve from the vin number if the 8th digit is a W then it's a 2 valve, if the 8th digit is a 8 then it's a 3 valve, I hope this helps

There's a local truck dealer whos retiring and he's got an '07 4.6 for auction. I am going for it and hoping it'll be a worthwhile investment.
This is gonna be my first truck when I turn 16 this November
It's a good truck to have
Man your lucky, I’m 16 and I wish I got a truck.

Definetely!!! Specially that 4.6l with the 4spd!!! The slowliness is just comparable with the reliability lol

Very reliable 4.6 better than problematic 5.4s

Definitely going to make someone a good truck

I'm looking at a 2010 4.6 everything I see and read tells me these motors will out live the truck itself.
Yes they definitely will they don't have as much power as a 5.4 but definitely a better motor
Is the the 2V or 3V 4.6?
It's a 2v in the trucks
Thought they stopped making 2v after 2004??
It’s a 3v. All v8 F150s after 2004 are 3 valve
@@FADE623 5.4 changed to a 3v after 2005. 4.6 is is still 2v until 2009 where they made 2v or 3v optional

May trade my 97 f150 for one if if I find the 4.6
