Perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of this piece (from the American perspective) is that the band can produce a true pianissimo with full sound and let the soloist prevail at a mezzo! Fabulous playing on a myriad of levels.
As a former flugelhorn player in A Grade in New Zealand I really appreciate Zoes playing. Beautiful tone, musicality, control and feeling -the entire page full. Thank you Zoe
I have heard this a few times played by Zoe and Katrina. It is a very emotional piece, beautifully played. The ppp section is amazing and not many bands can do that!
As a lay person, I loved this and heard it without all the prejudice that competitive musicians unfortunately carry. The problem with all art is the more you experience, the more discerning you become. Paradoxically, this can take away from the experience.
Dr. Graham has done this several times now - taken a beautiful theme from a major work and re-written it as a solo vehicle to feature one (or in this case two) musicians. Every aspect one could comment on concerning this performance is to be rated at the very highest level. One thing that I was very impressed by that has not yet been mentioned is the point near the end when both soloists come back in - in unison. From the very first audible sounding of their entry note they are perfectly in tune with each other. It is easy to miss this kind of thing, but it is so, so difficult to pull off. Thanks for posting this wonderful performance!
There is surely a strong case for posting items such as this without the facility to make remarks. How can someone not like something whose quality speaks for itself? Yet, inevitably, we see a few that rate this with thumbs-down. They should at least explain their reasoning.
Great piece to teach people the difference between tune and tone. The flugal is good, very good but that girl on baritone is supurb, then the tenor horn and soprano have their turn. This is a brass band and not a trumpet in sight, the way it should be.
The player on the baritone horn is one of my heroes, Katrina Marzella. Possibly the best player in The World of the bari. [similar to Werden and the Childs on Euphoniums] and who has done much to promote the playing of this hugely underrated instrument. Katrina's playing in harmony with the [excellent] flugel player is no happy accident !!

I completely agree! Wonderful breath control in the entire band.

This should be famous as the most accomplished cornet solo ever

Outstanding solos by Zoe and Katrinia! Super nice control of dynamics by the band adds so much!
The beauty of this piece is in the ear and soul of the beholder. The thumbs down brigade speak for themselves "NO SOUL"
When you get past the "billy goat" vibrato of the Brit brass bands, there is a wondrous world of seriously profound music. Do not let it pass you by.
OUT STANDING! It doesn't get any better than this.
A very beautiful tone and balanced vibrato x x
Takes music to a new level.Isn't it great how the lassies can play like that, and bring the music alive.
素晴らしいアレンジ
ハーモニー/コード進行が絶妙です

Some people give a thumbs down purely because the option is there. Sour and twisted perhaps.
Sublime.

Did Zoe Hancock get marrie? Or, is there a typo?
Did Zoe H. marry the composer?
pp or ppp at 3:38?
What kind of brand is your instrument?
who the hell disliked this?
