Most of the time there is nothing wrong with them, other than the hard drive being removed for confidentiality reasons. I graduated about 6 years ago, I've been over paying on my student loans since (sometimes by a $1000 over the monthly minimum) and I still owe $10,000. I have a Bachelors Degree. My sister OTOH continued to grad school, and I remember the day she told me her student loans passed her mortgage. Schooling is stupid expensive here in the US.

The "one chim" means incorrect ram. I put the i incorrect ram in my macbook, and got the same chime. Im sure you knew this, but I figured it was helpful.
We run a small non profit in West Virginia offering instruments and lessons to local children. We are looking to expand to offer recording and computer music classes for our students. Most of our donated recoding gear is FireWire and slightly antiquated. These machines would be perfect for our needs, would help local at need kids and would likely be a tax write off for you. Love what you’re doing. Watch often. If you haven’t unloaded these we could quickly find homes for any or all of them. They would be greatly appreciated and used daily.
All of those machines would be perfect candidates for Mojave or Catalina Patcher. Now that the light mode issues have all been rectified with the latest Mojave and Catalina Patcher versions, you should have a great experience running up to Catalina on all those machines.

Was thinking of replacing the optical drive too but when I saw your video thought it might be useful to keep it. I wish Apple were better providing spare parts for old machines. These MacBooks are great. They are, unlike newer ones, upgradeable. Putting in 2Tb SSDs would be smart for anyone who buys these. And swapping out the memory for 8Gb or 16Gb from OWC would make them fly again. 2012 was last year you could upgrade memory yourself. The 2012's also support Catalina!!

Fascinating to watch you work. For me I was very impressed. Had to take apart my HP ENVY due to possible loose hard drive cable and was terrified to do so. Once in there after waiting a WEEK for the right size screw driver and pry things to arrive because Prime truck went off the highway in wind storm on ice causing order delay. Yes it was just a loose cable even though it did not appear loose it must have been because after gently pushing on it both ends putting all those impossibly tiny screws back the machine booted up. I used to take the old boxes apart adding and subtracting things . Not so much the lap tops.

I'm still using a 13" MBP mid-2010 with Core 2 Duo. Last year I upgraded ram to 16GB and put in new battery and 500GB SSD. My wife has the early 2011 13" MBP upgraded with 500GB SSD and 8GB of ram. I replaced the trackpad on hers recently as it had become glitchy. We've both had these for close to a decade and will keep on using them every day probably for several more years. Easy to get into and work on. Lots of ports. Stuck on High Sierra though.
According to the eBay listing, these were sold by FreeGeek which is a great organization that takes donated computers and stuff and sells some and loads others with Linux for cheap, or free to those who need them.
I bought similar lot of 8 macbook pros from 2009 to 2011 for only $200 without chargers and seller says no idea if they're working or not without visible damages and without missing parts. I can't wait for them to be delivered.
The integrated graphic controller and chipset in that specific model MBP 13 the Nvidia 320M was really pretty good in its day. Nvidia made the 320M specifically for Apple and it outperformed the integrated 9400 graphics of the larger Macbook Pro models that year.

The bad thing about swapping the logic boards is that the serial number of every mac (also on its ROM) is printed on its case.
