I’ve had my Austin made SR model y for a few days now and I love it! My first Tesla.
0:24 I was there, because I was part of the student FSAE for my San José State University team (#1 in the west coast), besides the little brag. It was a dream to see the CT in person and I am glad to have pushed for my dad to preorder the truck when the FSD was around $7000. Interning at Giga Texas also brings new excitement for these new products that will be online soon

currently the phantom drain from the Security system and Cabin protection eats the battery a decent amount. If the solar could just mitigate that I would be happy...

So happy that my ordered Tesla 3 LG got changed to earlier date now to Oktober 2022 from January 2023. Have been waiting since February 15. The price was 5.000 € lower then it is now.

Cabin protection drains the most on hot days battery went from 80% to 30% in a 3 days of 100 degree weather. Turned off the sentry during the day, only use it at night.

We accepted delivery of an Austin Model Y, 279 mile, megacast version here in Tampa, FL, My original order was a Model Y LR but was offered in the app an accelerated vehicle delivery offer, 5 second 0-60 , 279 mile Model Y. We have not had any acceleration boost offer yet. Took delivery 6/21/22

The addition of solar would be great for Tesla while it’s not going to drastically increase the range of the car but it could reduce any phantom drain while parked or allow the sentry to run with out any drain.
Yup, this… sentry itself should’ve been.
I would live this feature as it would be some insurance against fully draining the battery while standing for longer periods and /or often being connected via app.

My model Y (Long range) postponed 3 times since I placed order in July 2021. It’s delivery scheduled in April-July 2023 as of now. We never know

The acceleration upgrade has been removed for the 4680 Y. The smaller pack probably not capable of enough power.
Much more excited about Aptera than lightyear. As my concern is about the environment and how vehicles pollute them
Aptera uses much less material. Is more efficient, therefore using less batteries to achieve the same distances. Faster. And can produce about the same amount of solar range. At a small fraction of the cost.
It's better for everyone.
Still yet, I'm glad to see auto manufacturers aiming at at efficiency. It really matters to the environment.
Still hoping that ALL auto manufacturers go hard at producing highly efficient cars that can charge themselves, sparing the grid from needing to produce more electricity.

I may consider replacing my Model 3 with an Aptera. Main reason is Aptera's attitude towards right to repair and the ability to cover a significant commute through onboard solar.
Absolutely agree! And their whole approach, including pricing, seems to genuinely be about sustainable mobility. Right-to-repair, really is about sustainability as well, keeping the car on the road longer, producing less waste overall. And I think their car is designed with recyclability in mind as well.
Looks interesting...I have to see if they actually deliver on what they're promising. The pricing looks good though, even the most expensive one is cheaper than the cheapest Model 3 now. Right now they are just taking pre-orders though...have to see if they can actually deliver before I'd consider putting money into that.

Agreed. I'm not sure how many millionaires are strolling through this channel. Aptera will probably resonate with more of your viewers. And it outperforms the Lightyear Zero in every metric, besides seat count.

There are no 4680 Model 3s. If your wife’s care has a 0-60 of 5.8 seconds, it has a lithium iron phosphate battery pack with pouch cells. 4680, 2170 and 18650 are all cylindrical shaped cells.

We are in the San Antonio area. I don't think I'd take a chance on the battery pack size but I hope everyone getting the Standard Range 4680 will get a pleasant surprise down the road.
Cybertruck will be closer to Hummer EV in price if not exceeding, doubt they will have a version that even comes close to low end Ford F150 lightning. Which means for many early adopter EV truck fans, they will go with F150 (as even Rivian is so much more). Perhaps Chevy Silverado depending on ultimate price of that. So wonder how many of the 1.5 mill reservation holders for Cybertruck will pay that price. Hopefully a high number, but gives me pause.

The SR model 3 definitely needs an update ( faster 0-60). Sad to see that the model 3 isn't made in berlin/texas yet.
There would be some things I would love to see in M3, but faster accelaration is not amongst them. That mission is accomplished.
@@C4H6As M3 SR only has 6s acceleratation. This is slow for a 55k+ ev (cost in EU). The base BMW I4 costs about the same and it has slightly faster acceleratation. Also the SR should have fog lights and the same audio with LR and Performance.
The SR should have a 5.4--5.5s 0-60.

Chinese made cars like neo and ora will bring out good cheap cars in 1 year. The first ora cat is slated for Q3 in UK. China will take over car supply in 2-3 years like Japan did in the 1980s

Yes. Look at resale. Order the Y. You will be able to sell it for more than the sale price.

It makes sense what Sony has done.
They want to make vehicles, so they've partnered with one of the best auto manufacturers in the world to take care of production. Plain and simple.
Sony already has plenty of auto simulation experience (or has worked hand in hand with people who do for years). Hopefully they can bring that into the real world from the virtual.
Is there a significant difference in the speed boost of both of your cars. I mean is there a noticeable difference between 0-60 at 5.0 to 4.2? I can see 4.8 to 3.5 but I don't know if 5.0 to 4.2 will be significant enough to spend $2k. now if we can spend $2k and get an additional 100 miles in range I see that being worth the upgrade.
What difference in hardware does the performance have over the long range? Is the speed difference only software related?

I purchased the accel boost for my Model 3 AWD, from 4.2 to 3.7, there is definitely a noticeable difference but the car overall feels sportier, and for some the $2k to make the car feel sportier is worth it (beyond the 0-60)

Ryan, just got my VIN assigned for delivery next week in San Antonio. Decoded the VIN to find out that it is out of Giga Austin. The order paperwork confirms that it is a dual motor long-range Model Y (not the 279 mile range performance model). Do you think that I will be getting 4680 batteries in a long range Model Y?? If so, any intel on the range?
230k for the solar car? Could get 2 Teslas and pay of an entire solar panel setup for cheaper than that, and be charging for free.

It's cool to see all these new vehicles coming out but if they price is so high, it will be difficult for people to move from ICE cars. The idea was to make it more affordable but right now is very difficult to get an EV for someone with a middle class income.
Lol just priced out a MY with wheels upgrade and a MYP both in standard grey....I'm in OR and they are only $2k apart!!! So...if I bought the MY long range and added the 2k speed boost...it's the same as just buying a performance but instead of 4.2 I'd get 3.5 sec 😅 um....anyone notice this? That's kinda dumb!

Hey Ryan, I am taking delivery on my Austin built model y next week in Florida. FYI, the base price is no longer $59990. It is now $61990 so a $2000 price increase this week.

My gut is telling me that in about 1-2 years there is going to be thousands and thousands of Tesla’s and other car manufacturers on the second hand market from todays customers desperate to off load their cars at much lower price because they are in a financial crisis and can’t afford to get by on their salary due to the cost of living increase.

Solar panels on cars don’t stack up in real world average consumer use
I almost bought a Model Y last year. But the steady increase in FSD gave me some pause. Now they nickel and dime you for an acceleration boost, at the same time they are raising the prices. As much as I am impressed by their technology, the price is growing beyond my interest level.
The AB has always been 2K. I have had the MY for exactly 2 years now.
Hold out folks , you will be able to buy these at 2020 prices in a year or less 👍🏻👍🏻
New Y sux balls.. Why would anyone pay 65g for a Y with 279 miles is beyond me. Like many fans, I have 2 Teslas in my garage, at least I know one of them can travel 400 miles
It seems to me like the 4680 is just a less expensive battery, which means higher profits, for Tesla. They advertise 279 miles, which is probably BS. I base this on Tesla's LR claim of 330 miles. Seriously, is anyone actually getting anything close to 330 miles on a single charge in the real world?
@@Elite59 Production 4680 is far slower then Y comes off assembly line. In order to sell more Ys, Tesla simply makes smaller battery packs to call it "standard range". The original estimate battery pack for Y was around 470 miles. I assume longer range packs will happen once 4680 production increases
I am trying to understand how some people who have ordered their model Y recently (without FSD) are getting their vehicle before those who placed their order last year. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason why this is happening. Could you possibly shed some light on why you think this may be happening. Are they using some form of lottery to determine who'll get the next one?
Typically it’s proximity to the factory that determines delivery, not so much when you ordered.
Yes they're doing it based on delivery numbers and where you fall in the Q in that location. The end of the quarter is this month and they are trying to deliver as many of these vehicles by next week as possible. It's starting with those people who have standard configurations with no upgrades who locked in the prices at $62,990 or higher first. Those who locked in the $54-$59k price will not want to pay more ($63k) for a model Y with less range and supposedly smaller kw battery. I will say this I locked in my reservation at $63k here in FL and was offered the ability for early delivery and when I clicked the link and seen the available cars, they had my current configuration with 4500 miles for $87K. That tells me the speed in which these vehicles are increasing their value. The next day that model was gone! So someone was willing to pay $25k more for the same vehicle with 4500 miles on it. This is seriously no joke.
I realy don't know what people are so obsessed about 0 to 60. Ill trade that any time of day for quality build and costing ride.
I think it's the only exciting part about the car. If you at a stop sign, you want to go fast once or twice in a month. If you have a slow car, you might as well buy a CRV.
Tesla the car may have gotten faster, but Tesla the organization has slowed way down.
We ordered our Model Y in December 2021. Expected delivery at the time was July 2022. After a month or so, delivery time was reduced to June 2022. Hurray! After another month or so, delivery delayed to August 2022, and then to September 2022. After holding steady for a couple of months, now delivery is scheduled for “October 8 - December 3.” I’m really beginning to wonder whether Tesla will deliver at all. This is not how EV purchasing should be.
That sucks! Ordered my MYLR in July and received delivery Oct 21. I think the delay might have to do with the new batteries. At least you locked in on the price. Good luck! It's worth the wait!
The GigaTexas ramp can't come quickly enough.
I've been trying to get a Ford Maverick at or near MSRP and it's been 6months since I started and still can't find one. So it's not just Tesla it's literally the world that is in supply chaos because of you know what.
Winning, order Feb 2022 and got a faster delivery date, not performance. It's been stuck on this date for 2 month. fingers crossed.
Tesla service sucks. I picked up my MYP June 4 and the vehicle steering vibrates at certain speed. I took it for service, 7 hours later I was told they can still feel a small vibration after they service the vehicle and for me to drive it to see if I can feel it. Sure enough, I can still feel the vibration. Went back in two weeks later, this time I met with a new service supervisor and we went for a test drive. He said I’ll be honest with you, I don’t feel a vibration remember this is not a BMW this is how Tesla drive. I was like wow, I just paid $71000.00 for that piece of s..t.
At some point will the numbers go negative (0-60 in minus 3 seconds...). I just think centering on that metric is stupid and counterproductive to the entire purpose/benefit of EV's.
Yes, when they were new and people wanted a comparison metric to ICE cars, that one stood out and 'popped' for people. Also the experience of 0-60 in 3 seconds (with the neck jerk feeling) is certainly GREAT, but most people just want 'good' (which is relative to them) acceleration to get onto a freeway, perform a passing maneuver, and a few other uses. Those who love to drive fast are basically breaking the speed limit in most parts of the U.S. since the highest legal limit I know of is 75mph (or perhaps 80 mph).
So is 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds or 2 seconds really THAT MUCH better of an experience than in 3 seconds? And even if it is, can most people handle that acceleration responsibly and under control? I am starting to lose some respect for tesla because they keep removing the features and how software locking features as well? that's just insane, its not different from Toyota locking the remote key fov without a subscription. what are these companies thinking, not only you are paying 10's of thousands for the car, but you still need to pay more to unlock features that are already there? its not like unlocking skins in Fortnight, well actually now that I think about it, its exactly like that. I don't get people paying $2000 for a slightly faster car. It's a F'ing car. Tesla sees you coming with that. Additionally, with all the new EVs coming to market will Tesla update anything besides the battery? Will we see new colors, new interiors, new options or features? It feels like Tesla sees so many orders and thinks why change anything, that just costs money.
If people want an even faster car it is ok to pay for that. I does not require additional hardware and can help to reduce the price for others.
That just seems scummy. My order from last November keeps getting pushed up from it's initial estimate of April 2022 to December 2022, I have an option to accelerate my delivery for a lower tiered model for $4000 more and on top of that I have to pay $2000 to unlock software to increase my acceleration? Worse I'm scared to post this because if musk sees me posting anything negative about his car, he might personally cancel my order. I don't know man. This company is losing me slowly and I'm not even a customer yet
Don't be discouraged. The demand is greater than expected. The car you have on order is currently reselling for $87k so imagine the resale value you have in the car you don't even own yet. It's frustrating but just be patient. It'll be more than worth it in the end.

Shame you missed the news about the Lightyear solar car ... debunked. Can't possibly charge as well as the solar panels would indicate. Because they'll never be angled optimally to the sun, and they based it on always having perfect summer weather.
