    I came to the conclusion that when you're becoming more advanced in learning a language it's far better to be taught by native speaker rather than by the teacher from your native country. There were many grammar aspects that I was unable to comprehend even though I was taught by good english teachers in Poland. When I began to watch LetThemTalkTV videos I understood them within minutes.

    • @LetThemTalkTV
      @LetThemTalkTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't entirely agree. There are some great teachers of English who are not native speakers. There are also some bad native teachers.

  • @lutchbizin6420

    Reduplications are great. However, there's a problem we English students have to work on. We can't use these words willy-nilly. Willy-nilly here is an adverb. Arty-farty is an adjective, hush hush is used as a verb in the imperative as well as an adjective, knick-knacks as a plural noun and riff-raff as a singular noun. So we have to be all ears. Thank you for the great lesson, Gideon.

    I have to admit I'm a little leery of a teacher who introduces his lesson with the immortal words, "Okey dokey everybody!" But things got better! There's nothing namby pamby about this presentation ... anyone who can come up with 41 redupicative words is a super genius!
    In Australia we also say "namby pamby" to mean something done in an ineffectual or weak way and "willy nilly" which means wildly, randomly... similar to your higgledy piggedy.

    Dear Grand Gedion
    I was arguing with fellow teachers about the passive for 'We started moving the earth away' and 'His architects had also started building Alexandria' s famous library' and I thought you'be the best to judge.
    Cheers 👍

    • @Meijimack
      @Meijimack 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, so the passive suppresses, or hides, the subject (the "doer.") So your examples become:
      The earth began (or had begun) to be moved away; and
      A's famous library had begun to be built.

    When I went to a Russian school a long time ago being a ten-year-old child, our English teacher constantly used "hush-hush" even without having explained to us what "be quiet" means, not to mention the meaning of the former expression. She was very advanced, ha ha.
