My Art Teachers HATE Anime And/Or Me

  • Title pretty much says it all! When art teachers hate anime and manga, or even you! Keep in mind that this video focuses on the high school years as you watch. Have you guys had any similar experiences in school? Doesn't matter the year or if it was even college or university. I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities for teachers and professors alike to hate on someone! LOL :) I hope this video helps some of you guys out there!
    Is there more to this story? Of course, there is what we present as the creator of the video but there will always be more than what we're able to record. Due to certain comments I guess I'll delve a little further into the story. Here are some questions you guys had:
    Q- I'm totally afraid to go to high school now!
    A- Don't be! There will always be good teachers and bad teachers. I LOVED my college professors. You might have a teacher just as supportive as one of them! Keep your chin up and keep going! You can do it.
    Q-Why is this video so negative?
    A- It's a negative topic that I'm addressing. I'm hoping by talking about something that was a negative experience for me, it will help someone going through a similar situation. In that way, it's positive.
    Q-You obviously failed because you can't follow instructions.
    A-I followed instructions to a T and never talked back. Or in class, or ever really. Damn I was a good kid. LOL
    Q- How can you say you were better than the other students in the class?
    A- As I said, I'm not an artistic genius, I actually believe everyone in high school sucks despite how relatively good they are. This is only because at this point in your life, it's the infancy of being an artist. It's the beginning of your art journey. Over time you will improve and look back upon yourself and say, "hey, I really sucked." It's just a natural point of progression. I said I was better than a large portion of the class because a large portion of the class took art classes for an "easy A" and were very outspoken about it. There is a huge difference between someone who comes in and spends extra time to work on a piece and someone else who sits there and talks the whole time, barely looking at their paper.
    Q-GOD YOU SOUND LIKE SUCH A TERRIBLE CONCEITED PERSON WHO IS TOTALLY FULL OF YOURSELF, YOU'RE SO SNOBBY, BLAH BLAH...
    A- Blah. This video was about me in High School. I was much younger back then and my personality was much different at the time. I was a very quiet girl who got very good grades in school. I completed EVERY assignment I was ever given to the best of my ability. I was a "try hard" sorta kid and always went out of my way to get my work done. I didn't have a voice back then and people walked all over me. Now I have a voice and I tell a story from an unheard perspective. If you want to think I sound snobby, I can't help that. I personally think I come across as firm, but whatever. lol
    Q- You're making fun of the art teachers!
    A- Nah, where did I do that? If you're talking about the fish head paintings, I'm criticizing them not teaching, not their art. I could give a damn if they drew fish heads on their own faces.
    Q- They are "bad teachers" because they had to buy their own supplies and do art to fund their own classes. You're so insensitive to the plight of art teachers!
    A- Actually, my school is located in one of the wealthiest counties of America. We have passed the school budget many, many years in a row. They have added many wings and buildings onto our school system. We had a lot of money going through the school system so it was never an issue. Teachers START and receive 70 grand a year. Then they start their "steps" and many of them receive far over 100 grand a year. Money isn't an issue here. I'm also not insensitive to the plight of art teachers and funding. A lot of schools cut back in the art department and that's terrible. Makes me really sad. :( But yeah, totally not an issue when I was in school. In fact, they were looking of ways to spend the money so that they would get the same amount next year. If they had excess money, it would be cut from the budget the following year.

    I wonder if I can pin my own comments... Anyway, I added to the description of the video. For everyone out there on the internet trying to justify why I should fail, I talk a bit more about the details of the high school years. Oh those lovely years. If the Q&A doesn't help shed light on what I mean, I don't know what else will. XD

      OMG I FOUND THIS VID AND I WAS LIKE "and this is my first semester in 6th grade all over again , but with art instead of everything" No but for real I had these 3 teachers in this school (now mind you there are only 3 6th grade teachers because it's a private school, so yeah I was screwed) you see the reason for said 1st semester is because I quit that school after that because they were probably gonna kick me out anyway:P now for the reasons they hated me (I think, we still don't know why) 1: my dad is a drummer they probably hate this because the school is based on The Church of Christ ( they don't like music T-T SRY IF UR CHURCH OF CHRIST ) 2: I was new a student (even though there were like 51 more new students) and I was very different, I was creative, funny, I new reality unlike everyone else there, reality is not unforgiving all the time 3: I wa- I mean still am very sassy (more Reality) 4: I TOLD THE FRICK'N TRUTH. Ok so this one teacher asked me "*insert nam here* why are you falling asleep" and I was like "um Mr. *insert name here* I don't call it falling asleep I call it being bored" and I had this smirk on my face that said "oh yeah you told him" so yeah I still technically am in 6th grade but I am now homeschooled now and I enjoy it a lot. So what have we all learned today kids! kids: that *insert name here* hates you!!* me: CORRECT!!!!

      If it's any consolation, I can relate somewhat. I was denied entrance into the school musicals even as CHORUS of all things so I wanted to take the Drama 3 class since their final project was to do the fall musical (spring musical was for everyone.) I asked the drama teacher if I could take that class even though I missed the middle class (because the music teacher put me in women's chorus instead of mixed choir and Drama 2 was at the same time as women's chorus.) She politely explained to me that there were things that I needed to know from Drama 2 and I accepted it.
      This WOULD have been fine...until I found out that the girl who bullied me got into said class just by ASKING HER when she hadn't even BOTHERED to take the drama 1 class. Said bully ALSO was allowed to be the TEACHER'S AIDE in my class even though she didn't know a thing the class was talking about and the rule our school had about aides was that because the aide assisted the teacher, the student had to first pass the class they wanted to be an aide in.
      A similar thing happened to me when I tried to get into a dance class because I wanted to learn how to dance (their excuse for not letting me be in the musicals was that I couldn't dance) and the dance teacher let a girl who just waltzed right up to her ON THE NIGHT OF ENROLLMENT be in the class when I'd begged her to let me in for MONTHS and the class was supposed to teach you HOW TO DANCE. I LOVED music theater and honestly if they had supported me in my ventures to become a musician (rather than just a music teacher which even with that, they treated me like I was beneath them,) my confidence would have been a lot better.
      tldr; teachers play favorites...it's unfortunate but it happens a LOT (and is one of the reasons I want to become one so I can CHANGE how the system works)

      Teachers also compare you to your older siblings especially if you are the younger sibling. I kind of gave up on math in high school and deemed the stuff they were supposed to be teaching us useless as when the hell was I ever going to use it. I went to a private school for part of elementary and the teachers always believed the bully instead of me. I got accused of cheating on a test when the bully had copied my answers even though I tried to cover them. I was also picked on for taking too long to complete a test due to my disability. Its why I want to become a teacher for those with special needs.

    i had an art teacher who always told me my art style was TERRIBLE and DISTURBING, we had a art contest and that particular teacher had ONE favorite student, She and i were the only people that entered the contest, the student were the judges, they entered whos art should win on a paper and put it in a box, The teacher SAID the other girl won, at the end of the period, almost 50 student came up to me saying they voted mine (thats more than half my class) I went to the teacher and told her. She then said "they are trying to make u feel better" she walked out of the classroom and i decided to be nosy, i counted the two stacks of votes and MINE CAME OUT TO BE THE WINNER!

    I once drew a picture of Link in anime style and put it into a art contest. A majority of people liked it except for my music teacher, cause she once stumbled upon hentai and thought that was what i was trying to enter. She literally tried to fail me in music if I didnt take myself out of the compition. Needless to say she was fired.

    I had an art teacher who really liked me but hated another kid who was wayyyy better than me. Anyway, at the end of the year we had this big art contest where we tried to draw my principle in 20 minutes as best as we could. The teacher said everyone could compete... except the one kid that she hated. She told him "you're no where near the level you have to be in order to join this competition". I later told her that I would not compete so he could take my place. She tried to talk me out of it, but I managed to get him to compete. He won second place because his piece wasn't complete, but he did get another award for it being the most realistic/detailed. The art teacher was just staring at the kid like he had kicked her fuckin toddler.

      While I agree that just doing experiments without regard for the scientific procedure does in fact void the point of what your doing and not count as science. That being said it is NOT a waste of time as preforming experiments does provide understanding of what expected outcome is as well as drive to understand the aspects behind it which gives more of a reason for people to learn about it besides the typical "If x then y because z" and lab write up.

    As a professor of art and design, it pains me to hear this. When I was an art student, I had several teachers crush me because I chose a realistic style. Your teachers had no right to inject their own opinions of art style into your critiques. That means they are terrible teachers.
    A teacher's job is to inspire, encourage, and give the gift of their own knowledge and experience. NOT to impose their own sad opinions and feelings of failure on to their students.
    You have great courage for putting this forth, and I think you have great talent! A+

      Teachers are there to teach. And in high school they are there to teach the basics. And the kids are supposed to be learning the basics at that time. Yes, the teachers do have the right to tell them that they should not be doing a style like Anime in school, because that is only copying another person's style.

    • @marslego501
      @marslego501 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      How the fuck is anime copying another persons style? theres anime realistic etc but who cares that your copying tat style? if you couldn't draw either of those styles, then you would run out of styles

    • @julienielsen3746
      @julienielsen3746 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Of course it's a style. It's a cartoon style. It isn't truly realistic. Who has eyes that large? Have you ever looked at any other artist's work that wasn't a cartoon style? If an artist isn't copying another person's style they do have their own style. Not all artist's work that is painted or drawn realistically look exactly alike. Not all are photo realistic. There are a lot of realistic paintings that I can tell by looking that it is a certain artist's work. I can always tell a John Singer Sargent painting when I see one. And there are many other styles. Impressionistic, for one.

    • @LemiaCrescent
      @LemiaCrescent  7 ปีที่แล้ว +97

      This is a great comment that further proves the point of this video. Here is why...
      My art teachers would have gotten into a FIGHT with your art teachers over this. My teachers did not want ANY lines in the art whatsoever. I would have loved to put the two teachers in a room and see what happens. :)
      And to explain what I mean further, just because one person likes something doesn't mean someone else feels the same way. Just because one teacher says "do this"doesn't mean that it is the "right way," as art is a largely subjective matter. To force someone to draw a certain way or do a certain thing is really stupid. @_@ Unless you're specifically taking a class to create art a SPECIFIC way ...like... I don't see the point.

    • @ChipmunkiousD
      @ChipmunkiousD 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      My art teacher did the exact opposite. If she saw even the slightest hint of an outline that wasn't covered with shading, she took points off. She wanted all the art to look realistic. I can't draw realistic-looking hands and I got points taken off for drawing my thumb too wide and not shading it enough. Like, she said my hand's not paper white but I couldn't use colors, so I should've shaded my entire hand. I only have three levels of shading I can physically get myself to do: dark, light and none, but she wanted so much detail in the shading and I just couldn't figure out how.

      Anyone with an understanding of the anime style knows it's a trap that's easy to dig yourself into but very, VERY difficult to get out of.
      The mistake young artists make is starting in anime without understanding how the body/face works in the first place. Only when you understand correct anatomy and facial structure can you exaggerate it in a way that makes sense.

      A majority of the teachers and professors I've come across don't hate the anime style. They just don't want you to start out with that style or any highly stylized styles because it is very hard to learn the basics of portions, vaules, ect compared to if you were to learn/start off more realistic then go on to develop your own style or go into the anime style.

    • @Cantrona

      Art School (as in post secondary) hate it.They rarely accept students that feature anime art in their portfolio because they think it stunts creativity. They think we're 'copying' or 'stealing' from Japan, so the high school art teachers have developed a strong aversion to the style since it's detrimental to getting into art school.

    I had an art teacher in gr 9 who was very manipulative. I was always quiet but my friend in that class was expressive and extroverted. This teacher also happened to be similar to my friend and I think that they hit it off well but she really hated me. She basically said to my face that I'm less intuitive because I'm not very vocal. She didn't know how to mark sketches fairly, either. One time, I worked really hard on a portrait of a wolf's facewith shading/colouring, a background, and detail. It actually matched all criteria for a 10/10 in her marking scheme. When I showed her, she just kind of smirked and gave me a 7/10. It was a coincidence that another student also did a wolf face portrait that day, only their's was traced from a printed image off the internet (he even told her that and she said it was fine) and it wasn't shaded or coloured at all but she still gave him a 10/10 for no obvious reason other than that it looked good and he was her favourite student. I could type all day about all the other unfair things she did to students.

    not really related to art but here's a story from my friend:
    My friend was watching Attack on Titan in his room and his dad came in and asked "watcha watching?" He responded "anime", and then his dad got really mad at him. My friend was really confused and asked why that was a problem, and long, awkward conversation short, his dad literally thought anime and hentai were the same thing. It took a lot of explaining to get him out of trouble but his dad is cool with anime now.

    I had a teacher when I was in middle school named Mr. dissinger. All throughout the year I noticed that he was trying to ignore me and not give me any type of help on ways i could improve. He would also give me c's and even lower, grades when my pieces were a lot better than anyone elses and give negative comments all the time. The reason is, because I was a lot better than his son and I had been selected over him to go to the art competion against other schools. At the end of the year I was done and I didn't wan't do do it anymore because it wasn't very fun anymore. Over time gradually, after he left the school, i started to do art again and i found that i had found my passion for art once again.

But I must ask why you think one punch man reminds you of rick and morty? I don't see any specific similarities. To me the movement is especially dissimilar. Rick and morty has that distinct 2D feel to it that comes with flash animation (etc) while one punch man uses fish eye-like distortion in high tention moments (like the manga eyeshield 21 by the same artist). I'm interested in what makes you make that connection, because it seems kind of random to me.

    I have an art teacher, and she does not like my art style to the point where she erases my works that I've been so proud of creating, I'm still trying to deal with this problem, I'm trying to explain my art style is what makes me unique. but when I say that stuff she laughs at me and says I'm wrong. I've spent 6 years drawing and I am finally proud of my works, I finally take pride in what I do, buut, I have my art teacher who is trying to make me switch from my style to realistic..I have a problem with realistic because it's expected and most artists do it, and that dosnt dosnt make them unique. I'm struggling a lot and I'm pondering if I should just quit art all together because of this preassure, I have my teachers voice in my head saying "that's too anime, that needs to be rounder, that needs to be longer" and when I finish my piece it's like a four year old drew it, my style and realistic styles don't mix and I'm having a hard time with that
    if you want to see my art you can check my instagram (I'm not trying to self promote I swear) and give me feedback on what I should do and change

      Hmm. If you'll consider one stranger's recommendation. Perhaps for one of your pieces in art, you can consider the general feeling towards your art style -- like all the reasons why your teacher may think it is subpar or sophomoric... then you could put together one single composition where your art style becomes ironic due to your thematic intent.
      I usually perceive anime art as carefree, almost as if the subject is unrelatable and below me. Perhaps you could represent that. Whether it be showing ignorance to real life issues, to expressing something as pretentious yet fundamentally impure, or whatever you can think of. Maybe something where you can have a piece where you differentiate two art styles, one anime, and one a tad more realistic, and use those to associate a disconnect between a romanticized idea and its reality.
      Either way, if you choose to go this path, afterwards you could take a few moments to explain to your teacher what you tried to accomplish with this piece, the message that you angled to express, and exactly how the use of your vaunted art style has aided you in achieving that message.
      Also, be sure to thank your friend for all the support he/she has given you, I can't help but feel like they are thinking about everything they can do to help you work through this problem. Be sure that they feel appreciated.

      Sollux Captor its good to know your style and to further develop it but despite liking that, ask any artist, you need to know how to do realistic things. Not expertly or anything but just as like a guideline to help further your own unique style. You have to know the generic realistic to be able to break out of the generic back into your unique style, if that makes sense. For example I really like cartoon drawing but I had to learn realistic before I could get better as an artist in my cartoons.

    They hate disproportions and want you to actually improve to the point you'll be able to draw anything. I hate this trope within the artistic community. Apologies if I’m wrong, but she said she drew anime in a sketchbook where her teacher said she could draw anything, then proceeded to threaten to fail her even when she did draw realism. A kid can still draw anime in their free time and learn realism in class. She never said she drew cartoons when she wasn’t supposed to. To discourage someone from their hobby is just wrong.
      Yes, if a student isn’t following the curriculum and blaming their teacher, they are in the wrong. If a student is either told they can draw anything in any style, draw differently in their free time outside of class, or has their teacher turn against them and fail them just because of a single incident even though they followed along, it’s hard to argue for the teacher.
      Lemmie has a point.

      @@tinguyen999 Good points of distinction, especially on the points Lemmie brings up from her experience. What I said pertained more towards this overall attitude in the art community - regardless of an abrasive teacher or a poor experience, standards matter and if you embrace them, you'll improve and produce the best possible content in the future. That was the point I was trying to make, thanks for understanding!

    I'm currently an art teacher (weekly personal workshops) and freelancer, and on the first day I asked them to draw their favorite things. Whether it is cartoons, anime, landscape, portrait, etc. It's a getting-to-know about my students and helping them improve on that genre. I don't have anything against art styles. I became a freelance visual artist because I'm in love with anime + games + pop culture, and till this day~
    It's sad to hear that teachers like that exist. I also have a professor who dislikes anime, but I don't paint anime that much during college because it's all about other kinds of art, which is ok because I get to experience it. That professor didn't attack me because he doesn't know I love anime, but he is an amazing informative art critique

    Few things. Teachers should never hate students to the point that they cause a ripple in their lives. Sure, they may not have their favorites, but unless the student is disrespecting the teacher, then they should keep it to themselves.
    Yeah, always use references. That is a truth beyond all measures. But there should come a point where it doesn't appear you do.
    But, lastly, and people will hate me for this. You honestly can't go into art school with anime as your portfolio. When I entered into animation and gaming, my professor said, "Who here likes anime?" Majority of us raised our hand, including me and the teacher himself and then he said, "Kay, don't draw it." While it does come with talent, as far as animation and art school goes, it doesn't cut it. Especially since they fall into same-face syndrome. This is mainly because once they animate one head turning, they've animated all heads turning. Being that I am clearly an animator, I can tell every single time they reuse another character's animation. I'm not fond of the style anymore, but the stories are just breathtaking. (There are a few anime that still have a good style. Ones that you can tell take the time an effort to provide the best anime. Such as, Made in the Abyss.)

    • @TheFLAMEXD
      @TheFLAMEXD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is such hypocrisy. If any art teacher says that anime has "same-face syndrome", they should look at western cartoons, because there are a lot, and I mean A LOT, of them that share very similar artstyles with same-face syndrome.

    Never in my life have I heard as ridiculous a statement as "because he uses references, he couldn't draw from imagination". Using reference, in other words, referring to reality as a way to build your visual library, is critical to ANY aspiring artist who wants to become great. Everything that is fictional or imagined (even in the most cartoony works imaginable) is in some way based upon the things we see in real life, and in order to make up your own stuff, you have to understand where it comes from and how it behaves, REFERRING to that as much as possible. Any good (or even legendary) Disney animator will tell you this, and some of the most talented artists in the world (no matter their style), after years and years of studies and real life references to build their visual library, will also tell you this. And I'd like to think that these great artists are a heck of a lot better than some discouraging high school art teacher. Nuff' said.

    • @cartoonhippie6610
      @cartoonhippie6610 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only instance where I've seen that happen is when the beginners in question are actual children and the more experienced artists older (professionals or students). In these cases, this does make sense to some degree because young children have limited comprehension and mobility skills so people are easier on them. Even when you aren't talking about children, it's more helpful to let someone's art develop a bit before you start laying on the criticism.

    Back when I was in school(aeons ago) we were encouraged to participate in a popular National Art Competition. Back in 6th grade, I was the 2nd runner up in my zone(East zone)! Now, I wasn't particularly great, but I was better than the average Joe, and I loved to explore a lot. That result encouraged me a lot(I mean, if you get a cool water color set as a prize at that age, who wouldn't be encouraged), So I worked hard and polished my water color skills. I entered the same competition next year(7th grade). The topic was WAR. I did a watercolor of a mountaintop ambush and painted with mostly cooler shades.
    When I was submitting my painting, the teacher refused to accept it. He accused that it was too mature to be my work, and I had gotten it painted by someone else! Luckily, my classmates vouched for its legitimacy, as they'd seen me paint it in class. He then tried to point out that my painting's colors are too cool, unlike in a war, so I might not stand a chance! I wanted it to be entered anyway, which he did reluctantly. He placed me at 17th in his personal list from all of the school's entries.
    I won in the Eastern zone that year, and also won a special Jury award at the nationals. The one who had topped my teacher's personal list, got just an honorable mention in the regionals(although I must admit, he has always been better than me and is a really good friend. He was one of the kids who stood out for me). The teacher never behaved the same with me.
    I found out about his hatred towards me when I was in 11th grade(He was the HOD in Arts and Crafts then), I had asked for his advice on how I should proceed in order to pass the entrance exams in the art schools in my city. He told me I didn't have enough quality to study art, because I barely know how to draw balanced human figures. He was right in this case. So, I practiced for the next year and applied for a Diploma course in 2D animation film making. I struggled a lot because I lagged behind in the basics.
    Now, I am a professional animator and designer with 7+ years of experience. Recently met him when I visited my school for a reunion. He was visibly surprised at my career choice, but invited me to his exhibition anyway, which he was doing with the Economics teacher from my school(who is an excellent as well as a trained artist, and the only person in school who encouraged me to pursue art).
    At the exhibition, I called out an inexcusable flaw in one of his paintings(I wasn't trying to be a dick, it was instinctive), and a lot of his patrons happened to be around. A few days later, I found myself blocked from his FB profile. I later learned from my Economics teacher that the painting I called out, didn't sell!
    Moral of the story: if your teacher doesn't like a particular style and insists on practicing the basics; Don't villify them. Look beyond their biases and try to take in whatever skill they have to offer. But don't abandon your preferred style! Do it on your own and apply the skills you are taught by that teacher along the way! You will improve a lot more that way. Even the teacher will overlook his bias and acknowledge you this way!
    But if your teacher is a dick who doesn't teach and always criticizes your work(like mine was), always remember, Karma's a bitch!

    When I was in High School I had this Art teacher who at first was nice to me (The beggining of my Junior Year when I took Art 1) I made a drawing of a car and she wanted me to enter a contest with it (which I did and I didnt won), then by the middle of my junior year my projects started to look way better and she changed.. she started to judge my art in a mean way... she said like “This doesnt look like a person” and at the end of my junior year she was returning all of the projects we made throught the year and she didnt gave me back some of my art work that I had made for her class, I asked her for them and she said that she didnt know where they were/she lost them.”
    My Senior year I took Art 2 with the exact same teacher and she sat me on the second table where my friends were at and we were doing a practize of how to shade some circles and I was shading it with my pencil and everyone else except for one guy was shading it with their fingers and she told me “you are doing it wrong!! Do it agaain!” (She accepted everyones work except mine) Then I did it again and this time I used my finger (thinking she wanted like that) and when I turn it in she said “Noo thats cheating!! You are doing it wrong! Everyone else did it perfectly except YOU!” so she failed me on that assigment. Then a couple of days went by and the assigment for that day was to do a portrait of ourselves and I started mine (we were using a photo as a reference) and I went up to her desk and asked her how I was doing and she didnt said anything, she just looked at me and she erased one of the eyes and she drew an eye there but the eye looked so fake without soul and I told her “uhmm... the eye doesnt fit my portrait...” and she looked at me as she was mad so she said “well you see? Thats how you look!”. Then when she put our Art work on the wall she didnt put mine and then she said “LOOK (my name) this person has talent not like youu!”.
    That same year my councelour put me in Art 3 (with the exact same teacher) and she didnt want me there, she complain about everything! (At the time I was doing all her work), she complained that I wasnt doing any work, she yelled at me several times and she always kicked me out andsent me back to the counselour. Until one time at the end of my senior year when we were doing a mural for the 2012 graduation class and everyone (all my classmates) were drawing on the mural and I was sitting on a table alone (cause thats were that teacher wanted me to sit) so one of my friends told me “hey come here and draw with us! It’ll be more fun!” And I went and I was about to draw on it when I heard the teacher yelling at me “NOOO!!! You are not allowed to do so! You suck and you are going to ruin it! GET BACK TO YOUR SEAT” I was on my way to my seat when one of my friends said “why not? I bet she’ll do a good job! Let her draw with us!” and she did a disgusting face but she allowed it and when I was drawing the forms on the mural that teacher came up to me and said “you are ruining it!! Now I have to put this with your trash on it” and after she walked away, one of my friends said “dont listen to her! You are good! Look you are doing a really good job!”. Then that same day at the end of the class everyone were sitting and the teacher called me to go up there... so I did (I was really nervous since I was really shy at the time) and then she tell everyone to pay attention to her and what she said changed me (for a couple of years), she said “LOOK!! All your classmates have talent!! Not like youuu, you definetely dont have talent!! You suck!! You will NEVER have the same level as everyone else in here, you will never accomplish anything!! GET OUT OF MY CLASS I DONT WANT TO SEE you in here anymoree!! GET OUT!!” (I almost cried infront of everyone but I didnt... I was shaking) I left snd I never came back. From that day I just went to the library on that class period and I gave up art for like 5 years... until one day I saw a youtuber and I started drawing again. Even tho I have been drawing from scratch all over again... I’m progressing and I’m becoming better little by little.
    Dont let anyone stinguish you internal fire, ignite that passion and keep burning not matter what (: I’m proving I can be an Artist too... I hope one day she can look at my DevianArt account and realizes what I can do... until then I will keep doing my best, from there and beyond. NEVER give up on what you love!! Cause life without it its too empty.
    Ps: I lovee your art, I love how you made the details! (:

      Disney is also not supposed to understand that. Being cartoony in nature it is the exaggeration of anatomy that allows their work to move with the flow it does. No art style is perfect. Name one anime that understands women's anatomy and how exaggerated chests function in a character designed for combat. Disney and manga/anime each have issues but work for their intended goals and are each great in their own respect, just as classical art is still lovely to look at. So, in summary let us leave it at no one is perfect. For perfection is to cease needing to learn or grow at all.

      savannah steed do you have any idea what anime encompasses? anime is a varied art style, everything from Chibi, to super detailed hyper realistic art style, to a style focusing on movement and color, or on eye expressions. It is wildly varied, and whatever style an author uses illustrates the story they are trying to tell. This person was clearly ostracized in her classroom, even considering her circumstances with a brother battling cancer. Even if she had been disrespectful, "shut up" is NEVER the right way to go when disciplining a young adult and is grounds for at the very least a strong warning in today's times. doing so in front of an audience was worse and if you don't like anime keep it to yourself, because the point of this story had NOTHING to do with anime and everything to do with people who unfit for their positions and take notes from Umbridge on how to treat their students. Also if you don't like anime, go swim in the shallow pool of the internet with all the other unenlightened individuals because we do not need you.

      Savannah's term was kind of rude but I do get where she's going. Gotta say, I LOVE anime and manga and I've been following the genre for many years now, and in spite of having gone to design school and taken fine arts courses, my drawing style (for my hobby) is based off anime. But as someone who studied art styles through history, I have to be honest and say anime style is not as varied to the fine artist as it seems to us, the anime fans. I had to admit that while I was in university.
      Allow me to explain. Anime has a lot more common denominators, even in its full spectrum, than fine art styles. Even if you compare a moe, shoujo anime style to a grotesque semi realistic seinen style, they still have more in common than a cubist and an impressionistic style. This, and the fact that it has a very heavy load of cultural influence of its original country. In fine arts, the styles have an origin and a reason. If you don't have a reason to draw the way you draw, it's not gonna hit the nail for a fine artist. They just won't understand why you're picking a japanese pop culture style to talk about the topic of the assignment.
      This said, all artists, even cubists like Picasso, started off with realistic style - actually he had it well mastered in his early teens. Once you understand the complexity of reality, you can simplify it through your own eyes and make your own style. Side note: let's not confuse "complex" and "detailed"". Complex is, for example, the different muscles interacting, flexing and contracting under the skin, forming a single volume, then how it intereacts with the area light, a focused light and a secondary light. Detailed could be drawing one by one every single blade of grass in your landscape, or a lot of different sections of hair in your character - but being detailed does not make it right. Anime (and all non realistic styles) simplify complexity; but in order to simplify correctly and not just copying other person's simplification, you need to know the basics of realism.
      Do I think students should be told to totally stop drawing anime until they master realism? absolutely not. But they have to study realism too, and they will eventually start applying their knowledge to it. If they already master realism, they should cooperate and show the teacher that they can do realism too, and decide to use another style due to personal preference. Just because they have to prove it. But in high school, they usually don't master one or the other and of course the teachers will decide to teach realism.
      This said I think the teachers mentionned in the video had a very bad approach. I had a teacher who would give the drawing class to the animation students too, they all either drew anime or other cartoon style. Instead of being mean to them, she only dedicated half of the course to realism until she realized they were all more than decent on it and then made the class about sculpting their own characters, giving them actual volume in their style of choice, and draw from different angles so their designs were consistent in a 360° view. I think this was an amazing way of teaching and all of the students refined their style a lot during that semester. Some ended up leaving anime too and took another cartoonish style of their own, others kept anime but with a much more mature approach.

    Thats what I hate about subjective subjects in school like english (or your native language) or arts or sports - the teachers have such a huge margin of how they grade you -_- in mathmatics you can at least show "I did the calculation right" and they will have a hard time to grade you worse if you actually did the stuff right! Hey the teacher doesnt like your essay or picture or way you do sports - they will just grade you poorly even if you do amazing work.

    • @shioneshiori4471
      @shioneshiori4471 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Some of that is definitely true, but all these subjects have basic rules and structures you must follow if you want success in any profession involving that subject. As teachers, we'd be doing harm to our students by allowing them to ignore the rules and thus be completely unprepared when they enter the work force.

    Real anime artists first learn how are things, how the human body is, and when they have a big knowledge and practise then start to put anime style on the drawings and ''cartoon'' them. That's why it is wrong to learn first how to draw a face or a body in ''anime style'' instead of figuring out how a REAL human looks like. I think that's why art teachers hate so much anime.
    I've seen many people in the art community who learn by anime tutorials and anime artists references. That's wrong. They're learning on the wrong way. To draw good anime (or any good style of art) the artist needs to understand perfectly the human body, enviroment and how reality works and looks. Then, the artist creates and develops an style. A free, creative style.
    Young people (like me, of course) are usually arrogant and believe that they know everything, that their talent and unique style are perfect but they are actually deaf to people with experience and true artistic knowledge. That's why communities can cause a severe damage in a young artist's evolution (but can learn different and good things too)

    • @Noelciaaa
      @Noelciaaa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      that's not the full truth. While it's necessary to practice the basics early on, nothing should stop you to draw in whatever style you want once you're done with these exercises. Because they're hardly ever fun. And art is supposed to be done for some sort of enjoyment. Plus an artist has to have their own style.

    • @legoplex
      @legoplex 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      There really isn't any wrong way to learn art. I don't think it's exactly enjoyable to perfect realism/anatomy first before you try and make your own style. I find it fun to just go for it tbh.
      But everyone has their own ways of learning, and if you enjoy this, go for it dude lmao.

    • @grimgracious
      @grimgracious 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Are you referring to Anime staff (Anime production staff doing storyboards and filling in animation cells) or Japanese artists who draw in what we recognize as 'Anime' style? Because there's isn't a 'set' way to get into the business. Some manga artists can't draw anatomy for the life of them, but still get published. Some draw it really well and mix it with realism, yet stick to illustration. Others don't really know how to draw, but are good at tracing and thus can get a job doing animation cells. You can start drawing in the art style and learn anatomy along the way - there isn't a 'right way' to do it. There's a way that most people would prefer you do it because they think it's how you'll learn it better, but that isn't the case for everyone.
      Not one artist I know learned anatomy first before reaching their art style. We all started drawing how we perceived reality, and to fit our aesthetic. Anatomy came after, and once we learned it we were able to perfect the style.

    • @AngelVocal
      @AngelVocal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well...
      Despite learning out the wrong way, people do figure out their mistakes eventually, they do realize that they need to focus on realism, because every style is based off that.
      It worked out pretty well for me, and I've been drawing for about 9 years.
      Sure, it's more advantageous to focus on anatomy first, but as kids we just think about having fun and creating. It follows us later on, but now we've got experience.

    • @xCanUStandOnUrHeadx
      @xCanUStandOnUrHeadx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      im pretty sure there aren't that many kids who look at something like cartoons or anime and decide, yea im just gonna study the crap out of realism and anatomy and perfect that and then in 10 years or so, that's when i'll start drawing goku.
      not even the people who draw anime for a living started that way. you learn as you go, but it is true that once you realize you need to study from real life and not just anime, you should definitely get on it.

    • @lpflowrider8619
      @lpflowrider8619 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Anime artstyle is indeed not proportionate and its certainly not the best artstyle ever and certainly not suitable for everything you do creative BUT it is and always will be art, like anything else humans consider art not a lesser or superior style and like anything artistic and creative when done right its a feast to the eyes. Also "anime" art itself looks different depending on your way to draw things.
      When it comes down to it Art teachers are just annoyed by anime art and probably think its like an epidemic because a lot of young artists try it because it looks fascinating to them and instead of giving it a try and conclude this topic with their students by maybe telling them that this artstyle isnt everything, find your own style, they are disrespectful towards animeish art and those who legitimately like it and thats just disgusting. Being sceptic as a teacher is one thing but disrespectful and biased is rude beyond belief.

      You guys are wrong. I'm assuming most of you guys live in America or a country that is not where Anime originates.
      The reason why art teachers don't want you to draw in the anime art style is because, if you don't live in Eastern countries and you want to get a career in art, drawing anime will get you nowhere. This is because the animation style or art style of the western world is VERY different from the eastern art style, and if you were to keep the anime art style that you are comfortable drawing in then ultimately you would not succeed professionally in the art or animation industry because you would not be able to get a job. Like I said the art style in western countries is different from the art style in the eastern countries where anime does not originate, so if you continued drawing in the anime art style you might be able to live off of commissions, but no one would hire you for a professional job due to your at style.
      That is, if you don't want to move to the Eastern Countries, you probably won't get a professional career in Western art or animation.

    When I was in highschool my art teacher was really well known for hating anime and would get upset at anyone who did. I knew not to bring it into her classroom, though I'm pretty sure I saw her turn her nose up at me when she saw some of it on other classes notes when I was in grade 9. We didn't ever have sketchbook assignments during any of my HS years (which is what I attribute not sketching enough to) so it never really came up. My grade 12 year, second semester I took AP art with a bunch of people from the first semester. I was almost bottom of the pack. But I had a spare in 1st period so I painted in the art room with the grade 10's, coming back in the afternoon to do my actual class work. When I finished my portfolio pieces, I was still only around middle of the class in terms of quality. We had one last assignment after the portfolios were submitted - complete 2 works of anything, any size within the last 2 months of classes. I did all anime. I completed 4 pieces, but one in particular I hung on the wall while it was in progress (cause I didn't want anyone to touch it and my art bunk was constantly being raided). In the 2 months I worked on it, she didn't once say anything bad to me about it, and never asked me to take it down. I was really happy with that. Not only was I not being scolded, but she proved herself as well. It wasn't that she hated anime, I think she just hated the mindset of people she had in class that drew anime. I proved that I could draw anime - and - do art. That I wasn't limiting myself by drawing anime, I was open to new ideas, I was trying things and getting better. I said I finished the class with around middle talent compared to my peers. Awards ceremony the AP Art class award for highest marks went to me. I was flabbergasted. Of a class of 22, only myself and one other student did the 2 paintings at the end of the year (the rest mostly chatted all class and were lazy bums, some just didn't show up). Instead of marking me for the 2 pieces, she added two additional projects to my list and marked me for all 4, giving me 100% on all of them, raising my average. She laughed at my expression when I went to grab the award. She told me later that while she still didn't really like anime, I was the hardest worker there, and I had definitely proven myself of creating whatever I wanted to create. I kind of wish I had given her more credit earlier.

      this is just it. I mean I was not great at drawing back in HS (I hadn't even tried drawing before - now it's earning me money lol), but I respected the hell out of our art teacher and did the projects just like she asked us to do. When we got out grades I would always get full marks and the other more talented would either get a lower grade or fail. They called me an asskisser for the teach - but she taught me how to draw and how to study art with her projects, while the ones who "already knew how" was in the corner drawing anime and not giving a shit about the projects or tasks. And I am not hating on anime, or how it's drawn - I love it, but the attitude of those people made the entire class experience turn sour for the rest of the students

    In my first year as a freshman I had an Art teacher and she looooved my big sister. I mean yeah, my sister is a nice cute and polite girl, so it was understandable that she liked her. And the first time I walked into class she was like "Oh my, aren't you the little sister of *****" This way I instantly became her favorite student and up to then I liked her back because she was really nice to me. But as we got the chance to draw whatever we want I handed her a very Anime like drawing and she completely snapped at me, calling my art a piece of shit and asked if I was sirious. When I told her I where she just wrote a big F all over my drawing, which I actually really liked. She then told me if I was ever going to hand her a picture like that again she would let me instantly fail, because this "art" is a complete joke and a disgrace to all Artist. I told it my parents and they went up to her and she acted all innocent about it. Afterwards I got criticized for everything and I could feel the hate just pouring out of her when ever she was near me. Now I got a new teacher and she is really supportive and when I told her the story, she went up to her and slapped her across the face and asked her furiously how she could just desincourage (?) a little girl who was very talented and passionate over art like that. They are still fighting over it, but I am just happy that finally i got a teacher that siriously wants to help me developing ^^.

Actually i don't even mind trying out the things given as an assignment and for that I have nothing against critic, as long as it's not hate driven. I feel like this is always a problem in art class. How can your teacher really decide your grade? Some people are better in drawing certain things, without putting much effort in and other try really hard, but can't get it right. How can a teacher decide the grade then? Shouldn't they go after who put more effort in, not who has the most detailed drawing?!
      I know this is not how it works, but to a certain point i feel like, this is how it should be.

      Bruh. Just because *most* animes have ridiculously sexualized characters, it doesn't mean you can't draw someone cute and modest in that style. What's "not suitable for highschool" about a portrait of a character, colored or not?
      On a different note, the art teacher I currently have (in high school) has turned drawing from a fun experience into a chore. We had to read six textbook pages on portraits, then make notes, analyze pictures from those pages, and write a couple more things before we even started *sketching.* After we had done all that, we were allowed to draw frontal, profile, and three-quarter profiles using fellow students as models. (because screw using photo references/technology in school, amiright?)
      This also happened over three days, so for *one entire class period* we were doing nothing but writing.
      In an "Art 2" class.
      Here's a question my brother asked me: "Is she teaching you how to draw, or is she teaching you what is art?"

    i once had an art teacher in 4th grade that would grab you violently by the arms (it did leave marks on some kids) if you didnt/couldnt do what SHE wanted. The same year she "retired" but really the school fired her because the parents told the school about her. And the next art teacher we had didnt care about anything, she just sat at her desk on her phone while most people in class were: yelling, running, throwing paint palettes, throwing erasers, throwing pencils, writing cuss words on the white board and then erasing them, and so on.... And the kids that were good were always in the middle of the chaos because the "bad" kids targeted them and the teacher didnt care! Then i went into sixth grade and the art teacher encourages us and actually teaches :D

    Something a bit similar happened to me. Not with a teacher, but a student. She always put me down because of my style (A type of anime thing). She was the favored artist in the class and strictly drew realistically. I was second. People always asked me to draw them, but I kindly declined because I couldn't draw other people well. She complained about my art saying "I don't like your eyes, they look terrible and like poke balls. They're dumb," and "Why is there a space in the smile?". I reply to those things with, "..." and "It's the angle of where the person is facing". I always played it off like it was cool, but when I got home, I was upset. Sometimes I even cried. We made shirts where we would draw ourself with fabric markers. Guess who had the best? Yea. She did. Everyone crowded around next to me because we sat next to each other. I asked someone if my drawing was good. They just gave me a yea. They gave her "WOAAA! THATS AMAZING!" And she, YOU GUESSED IT, criticized everything about it. The past year, I've made my style even more anime thing like. Now, since she moved, people consider my drawings amazing. And I'm considering recreating some of my old drawings. Making them more my style, now that I can have creative freedom. i don't feel terrible about my drawings anymore. I feel proud of myself. My art was influenced by anime and VOCALOID. I want to draw my own personal 'manga' just for me. So I can look back on it and feel accomplished. That's about it... ^-^

    This reminds me so much of my current art teacher in middle school. She has a funky attitude and she's very sassy.
    The first time I stepped into the classroom she immediately had a disliking to me. I tried being as polite as I could, offered her some help after school, and asked her for some help sometimes. However, when I ask for help she always gives me this reply; "Why don't you go ask one of your friends?"
    Yet when someone comes up to her she answers the question.
    I'm a big fan of anime. Some of my friends are as well. She gave me a C- for a unicorn that I drew with anime eyes and I thought it was pretty majestic.
    But she put an A+ on my friends project.
    I decided to put up with it until my Mom had a conference with her and had a disliking to her when she finished.
    I just have to put up with her for one more year, and then I'll be free.

    one thing i will say straight up, If you don't like being scolded for drawing anime, then don't go to art school.
    It won't be worth the time and money. Once you get to high school level, classes aren't there to "let you freely express yourself", it's to develop skills and basic techniques. But college is really about using your skills you learned in high school. I've seen quite a few of my anime friends get immediately rejected because their portfolios were just anime or the same thing over and over again.
    I used to be in all AP art classes in high school and with a style that was mostly anime, i had to bust my ass to prove i deserved to stay in there. That's when i started doing semi realism which was the saving grace that prevented me from going to the art classes for the kids who are just trying to take a BS class so they wouldn't have to "try hard"
    And because of my efforts, I'm in a really nice graphic design job that pays me well because of the skills and techniques i learned from dropping my anime style and doing different thing and drawing things i found hard at the time.
    Now that aside, I feel so sorry that you had to deal with a crappy teacher. from what you described, they were just picking a fight to pick a fight. Sometimes teachers see something they don't like and permanently brand you with the idea that you're stubborn or this or that and blah blah blah. That really can't be helped. but it always runs the risks of ruining a person's desire to continue to do art just because the teacher decides to be an ass for the sake of such.

    • @xejune
      @xejune 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Honestly? It depends on the art school. I went to one that was used to having students that adore anime, and they didn't mind students drawing in that style at all as long as they completed the assignments and as long as their technique was good and improving.
      (of course there were plenty of assignments where you didn't have a choice of style. Like when we were learning about shadows, drawing still lives or figure drawings. But then again, I dropped out so I don't know if that was just a ploy to prevent new students from being scared away.)

      @bibibibi7904 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Gumi Megpoid If you want to go to art school just remember that the classes are meant for basic techniques and more traditional art forms than personal desire
      it doesn't have to be what you love it's about learning what you have to learn
      if you love drawing /painting you can use books or free sources online
      I can't say going to art school is useless but since many classes and workshops exist I guess it's good if you start on your own and grow from there
      Only practice can make you reach better skills
      oh and don't get obsessed by every book in the store I like many have been doing this
      instead try reading reviews and see videos and decide which one you want
      my skills grew faster than my need of more books about a certain subject
      just remember if e.g. figure drawing book can you draw the human figure after having finished the book ? if yes then continue simply with this book don't add more books about human figure
      too much information is no information at all because an artist goal is to draw and if he can do that what's the point of more details and complicated info? nothing
      be simple
      many artists just use the basic info

    I have a friend that likes to draw The Lion King fan art, yet she struggles at times and can only draw a few poses, or basically copies another persons artwork and redraws it as her OC. I have encouraged her to try to draw a real lion and utilize what she learned from the real lion to her OC, Such as being able to draw more poses and be able to draw more from her head rather than relying on someone's art. Since when you are copying someone else's art, you are also copying their mistakes. I am not against her drawing Lion King fan art, I want to help her be able to draw better in her favorite style. She just shuts me out and say that I don't like her art, or going to a deep hole and says "That she should quit because she sucks anyway." reason why I am trying to teach her things I have been taught in High school was because she often gets frustrated when things don't turn out just right, and throws away her art, making the situation worse. She also been put down by some members in her fandom for her bad habits of copying other's art. Is there anything you would do, to try to encourage a student with these difficulties, to develop more skills so she could draw her OC in her favorite style in any pose she wants, and to break bad habits she developed such as pressing too hard on a pencil for the initial line drawing? (causing the lines harder to erase if she makes a mistake?)

    • @hadiyasameen5461

      the first thing I did, when I drew lions, I searched up pictures of Nala, (since she didn't have a mane,) In different poses and copied them. then I made up poses and drew them lightly. @asiu19 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      let me tell you, you sound like a good friend for trying to help her develeop a better understanding of her art. And it sound like you are already trying as much as you can, your way of approaching how she should work on her art style is well thought out. But I have the feeling sometimes some people are a bit thick headed and almost need to run into a wall to stop and see, that they can only go so far with their attitude.
      But maybe she just doesn't want to admit she needs the help. I would try and maybe get an art book of disney with only/mostly artwork from the lion king, maybe even together with an animal book about lions and give her that under the guise of "inspiration" for her characters or since "she likes lions so much". She probably doesn't want to hear that she needs to practice in order to be less frustrated with her drawing abilities. Maybe, if you give her the tools, she will herself get courius enough and try it herself. And if she has a favorite art site, there are often art tutorials, even on pinteres, for certain art styles, including Disney.
      On the issue of "pressing down too hard", I once heard the hint to grab the pen/pencil/medium as far from the tip as possible, since it makes it harder to push down too hard, as the lead will likely break beforehand^^" Other than that, having a relaxed hand and making soft motions instead of hard ones. If she tends to push too hard because of frustration, maybe breaks with meditation excercises or breathing practice, to calm down.

    I think the reason why art teachers may despise "anime" styles is because if you are a person who is into that specific style, then it's probable that you will do only that style. Cartoons can be very disproportioned in comparison to realism, and often don't require the basics of art (e.g. shading, texture, etc.). Doing only cartoon-style drawings is treading a very dangerous path if you don't know what you're doing, as it can lead to slower progression and odd art pieces. It's good to try different styles other than classical cartoons. They are good for getting down the basics, line art, basic proportions (if you draw more "realistic" cartoons), precision, getting an idea of what your style is, basic shading, and so on. However, they won't get you far.
    But don't misunderstand my point! If you stick to only one style (only hyperrealism, realism, surrealism, impressionism, etc.), then the same will happen to all; you will only be good at what is required for that style. I agree that what your teachers did was overboard, and they should be fired. However, some do have a fair point (I'm not referring to your teachers). Be diverse; try different perspectives, styles, objects, landscapes, light sources, etc. Only then will you be a more well-rounded artist. Yes, do what you love to do. But, don't forget to try new things.
    Then again, I'm just a random person on the Internet that does painting for a hobby. You don't have to listen to me.

      they didn't tell her not to draw cartoons, and even recommended her to draw a disney style instead if she felt inclined to draw animation. their hatred of anime is pure ethnocentrism at best and racism at worst. not all artists are required to draw, or even be good at, fine art, and a good percentage of artists make a career as illustrators based on their own style. there's absolutely nothing that obligates you to be a "well-rounded" artist, and there are few artists who are exceptional at all things. most artists have a specific niche where they shine, and if that's illustration, there's nothing wrong with that. in my experience, it is extremely rare to find an artist who is exceptional at anime but unskilled at everything else. an artist shouldn't draw with the purpose of fulfilling other people's sensibilities of what "art" is.

    I may be a tiny bit late but I had this one teacher who just didn't care for my depression.
    She would help the other kids if they were not feeling well or just hurting and with me she would just flat out say "Sit down!" and with my depression she made it worse.
    She was the main reason my depression got how bad it was.
    My Father addressed her and went all ham and said everything they need to change in my school.
    I had to go to the hospital because I was cutting and she didn't care for my health and everyone kicking me. I was pushed off a hill, only about 5 people came to help.
    School is hell. I hate it(but not art •u•(
    *_Haha edit! fucking likes wow yay, I'm now being threatened by my Father to get anxiety pills because he doesn't understand I hate playing my Clarinet in front of him, I'm cutting again because more stuff is happening-_*

I got to the point of cutting because I was abused by my step mom and a little abused by my step dad (Few years apart so I live with real dad step mom and step dad don't know eachother) she pushed me and called me names and when I didn't rub her feet right she would kick me In the ribs. So don't feel sad at least you had your dads shoulder to cry on I only had my dad to cry on which would cause an argument when I cried causing me to be called names and being pushed more and then crying alone in my room for a few hours but ya be happy you got family don't let teachers get you down u ROCK (thanks for being my therapist lol I needed to get all that out)

    I got mine fired, not even kidding.I don't normally draw in a anime style for say. But my friends do, so I drew it once to prove to the teacher that it can convay emotion. Honestly I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging but the peace over all was pretty god like, probs because I toke a whole month to draw the thing. But some how he telled me it was trash, and if I was ever going to call it art again, he would fail me for the rest of the year. I went to the pirinceable about what he said, and explain it's simply because he didn't like the style it was in, and how he was killing some students creative freedom.He got fired at the end of the year XD

Last year my art teacher wouldn't let me do art competitions due to my style, which had wide hips, small waist, large legs, anime head and hair, usually a unicorn horn, cat ears, or rabbit ears. I remember, when I was in 3-4 grade, I drew a dragon with colorblending (what we were supposed to do) with Pokemon-style eyes, and my teacher made me re-trace,draw, and recolor the whole thing. I was on the brink of tears,as I was so excited to draw a dragon, as I drew pokemon and dragons in my free time. And then, I saw the kid the teacher loved (he drew a tree,and she kissed up to it a ton. He was arrogant and thought he was the new Leonardo Da Vinci) draw a dragon with pokemon style eyes, and she said "Oh -----! I love your dragon, it is so creative and stuff"(he drew a generic fire dragon, I drew a cloud dragon with bows and angel wings.

Because these students rather then learning new shit they just wanted to draw anime instead of doing the actual task at hand. How can the teacher grade an art piece if the students didn't follow the guidelines?

      Prim Grim art is an expression there is no exact, no right or wrong to it. It's between the creator and the viewer. an art teacher is meant to guide students into the ever changing world, encourage growth, to help. what they are not supposed to do is tell an impressionable mind that everything is wrong. Its super upsetting to me to hear that Any teacher is treating any student in any subject in such a way that can have a permanently negative effect on the future of said students. its wrong just wrong.
