My theory is that another version of the protagonist in a parallel universe was sending him the postcards. He found a way to use his mailbox as a portal to another universe almost identical to his own, except he can't let his alternate self know about him. So instead of trying to say something meaningful, he just sends random post cards with smiley faces. And he knows he won't get caught, because he doesn't cross dimensions himself, only the postcards do as soon as he puts them in the mailbox. But because he started doing it, other versions of himself started having the same idea, and the more they did it, the more versions of them started doing it too. By moving the mailbox inside, it must have closed the dimensional portal. But then some of them found out their kitchen table can work too. Somehow.
I know it's not a perfect explanation, but it explains a decent amount. Maybe when the mailbox was moved, the mailboxes of other dimensions remained outdoors. And for some reason, the postcards got automatically forwarded to the kitchen table. Maybe once he gets enough postcards, it will push his sanity to the brink, allowing him access to interdimensional mail. I-mail, if you will. I definitely think it's a dimensional anomaly of some sort.
I've seen a short movie like this. But they could see and talk to each other through the mailbox.
@@einienj3281 that's really cool. I heard a similar creepypasta, but the guy from the other dimension was tricking the first man and his girlfriend into switching places with him.

@@einienj3281 Yeah it was. It's on Dark Somniums channel for sure, but I can't remember the title. I'm sure you could find it if you typed in Dark Somnium letters from another version of me or letters from an alternate parallel universe, or something.
Dr. No sleep features some of the best indie horror short stories and creepypasta when it comes to the writing skill of the tales on his podcast. Some credit no one, suggesting he's claiming the work as his own. In fact, you seldom find credit to an author on his podcast which either means he writes a lot of originals, or he narrates a story on his channel without crediting the authors all the time. I hope it's the former, but I know Jordan Grupes work has been narrated on the Dr NoSleep podcast, and I've yet to see him credit Jordan for a story. Maybe I just haven't found any of them.
Dark Night Tales credits Jordan Grupe all the time, and Jordan credits Dark Night Tales.. Some people credit Dr. NoSleep, but I've never seen him credit anyone.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Dr. NoSleep writes a lot of originals for his podcast, but none of the people who credit him as author on their channel has been credited author on his podcast. Maybe he doesn't use the work of people who support him in the community by covering his work, and just sticks to original content. Sorry I'll shit up. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Reddit prank: guy starts sending cans of spegetti to his neighbor's mail box. He starts doing it every week. The neighbor is amused, then angry. He keeps the joke going, after a few months the guys girlfriend realizes he is buying the spegettu at the grocery store because she works there. She helps him expand on it and after 4 months he shows up in a chef costume while the girlfriend is visiting wearing a chef costume with a huge fake mustache and a heavy fake italian accent saying he was in the chef boyrdee spegetri of the week and wants to know if willl subscribe for another year.
Girlfriend and neighbor are rolling on the floor laughing.

I think this story was written by someone with social anxiety lol. The way the all the other characters react to the protagonist, the level of instant distrust and contempt they have for him, is very unrealistic but matches the way people with social anxiety expect others to react to them.
Hell, I'd just spray the backs white and sell them online in bundles. Free money.

Is the author ESL? Just confused by the repetition of the phrase "brought out" In reference to a character speaking. Super incongruent.
Author here. Yep I am ESL. 'Brought out' was a phrase I frequently used in writing since it kinda makes sense in Germany, but it's not something a native English speaker would ever use. I've banned it from my writing these days, but in older stories it still appears.
