Bought a bamboo rod on E bay during Covid..It was made in Japan after the war.The rod design was a Dickerson.I bought it because it was bamboo and very affordable my plan was to refurbish it.The story behind the rob was the gentlemen who sold it to me said it was his Grandfather's rod that he got while station in Japan after the war.

I am from South Africa. It is one of my dreams having a bamboo rod and classic looking rod. Just kind of prefer the old classic type of fly fishing. But just too expensive in our currency :(
Sorry to hear that. If you’re ever in the U.S. maybe you can come to our class and make your own. There’s also lots of old classic rods that aren’t too expensive and might be a good way to get started.
Curious why you wrap from the guide eye to the foot. The usual practice is to go from foot to eye.
We still wrap up hill on the stripping guides with their large slopes, but find that for most of our students it’s much easier to wrap from the hoop down to the rod as it’s easier to determine wrap length and they aren’t tempted to stop short or crowd the eye.
